She Blinded Me With Quickies
18buddhas brought us stories and pictures of id Software's New Office. TheLocustNMI busted some MC Paul Barman and Commodore 64 on us. Geek rap, eh? Apparently C-64 is the sixth-most downloaded Jewish hip-hop group on the planet. An anonymous coward told us about grown men with joysticks on their heads. a2fan shared the super-secret Microsoft Breakup Plan. Ant told us to check out some commercials, and then akaChe got our hopes up with the iTari. Combat, anyone? Fish shared the proposal to encode Basic Egyptian Hieroglyphs in Plane 1 of ISO/IEC 10646-2. Speaking of history, another anonymous coward sent in the link to a really great PBS parody, The 1999 House. tobyjaffey (aka trj) wrote in about the Geekshirts project at SourceForge. Josh Woodward told us about the scary fact that Sometimes Barney Starts Playing Peekaboo on His Own. -
Amiga OS Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
First we heard that Amiga's new OS was going to be based on the QNX realtime OS. Then we read that the new Amiga OS would use a Linux kernel, and QNX issued this proclamation. Then Amiga issued this one. Now Zenn sends us a link to this article from BeDope that claims the new Amiga OS will really be based on BeOS. Okay, the BeDope story is a satire, but this Amiga thing has gotten out of hand. Has Amiga really settled on the Linux kernel? I wish they'd make up their minds. I am one of the millions who would (sigh) love to have an Amiga again... -
BeDope clarifies iToaster issue
Sebbo writes "The latest article at BeDope has coverage of the iToaster confusion. It includes a nice photo of Be's VP of Developer Relations, Tim Self, demoing BeOS R4.5's new Death Ray app on the president of Microworkz. " Ya know, it's just good to have this whole thing cleared up. For record, AOL might buy Microworkz, and Microworkz does not run a BeOS/Linux hybrid, but an OS based on the ideas found therein. -
UF/BeDope/Segfault Shutdown!
Well, after doing some checking around today, it appears that as yet unknown entity has managed to shutdown BeDope, User Friendly, and Segfault. -
Web Sites Shut Down
Over 600 readers submitted that the popular comic strip User Friendly has been shut down indefinitely following the injunction against the site from an, as yet not publicly named person. This adds Illiad's site to Segfault and Bedope, each of which also has gone down following complaints regarding content. -
Squirt out some Quickies
Couple of web sites worth mentioning: gman wrote in to plug LinuxHardware.net, a new "driverbase" that aims to make it easily to find drivers. Gman says it already has over 250 submissions. Need more help? Sure we all do, well Patrick wrote in to plug his new site, dotfiles.com. Guess what it's for? The first 2 tries don't count. And Some fun bits to keep you entertained for the evening, Evelyn Mitchell sent us a link where you can read the tummy.com 2.2 pool results and find how who predicted when 2.2 would be released. A similiar pool is upcoming for 2.4 CaseyB sent us an entertaining rumor from BeDope that Be will reincarnate the BeBox- building it out of Legos. Don't I wish. And finally, Hans sent us another funny one ls.themes.org where you can theme ls. I can't decide if its a parody or not- but it made my day. -
Declaration of Computer Independance
Mike Popovic, editor of BeDope wrote in to say that we might be interested in the current issue of Be Dope. It features a declaration of independance of all the computers of the earth. I'm prone to agree. You'll enjoy this. -

Emulation Contest
After yesterday's uber cool DigDug emulation article, Bedope has decided to run a contest challanging people to see how many layers deep they can emulate. The first people to get 5 and 6 get prizes. It's just a silly way to spend your weekend. The contest requires Be as one of the layers though, so perhaps we should have an alternate contest that doesn't have any OS limitations. Anyway, check out BeDope's Contest for details. -
Emulating the Emulator
Jón Ragnarsson sent me something that isn't news, but I dig it. Apparently, someone used Be to emulate MacOS to Emulate Windows Emulating an Apple IIe. All those layers of emulation were brought together to play Dig Dug! It just doesn't get much cooler. Check out a screenhost or read the emulator here (which even has a Wallace and Grommit Pic!) -
Linux Humor Site
Scott James Remnant wrote in with a comment about BeDope, and how cool it is. So cool in fact that he wants to work on a Hinux focused humor site. If you are interested in helping in joining in on this project (Hey, I'll write a Slashdot Parody!) you should send `subscribe' to `lindope-request@lantonet.com' (Scott also notes that this is just a working title- a real one will be determined later). The idea isn't to duplicate BeDope (which is already a hilarious site) but to have a centralized place for Linux related humor. I'm all for that. -
Primitive Volcanic Gods Choose BeOS
Reid Ormseth writes " There is a quite humerous atricle at Be Dopeentitled "Primitive Volcanic Gods Choose BeOS Over Windows" that i think that many Slashdot readers would enjoy. Just a quick quote: '"I'm responsible for appeasing the Gods who live in this chain of volcanoes, and now I simply sacrifice one BeOS computer, whereas it took three or four Windows machines to appease all the Gods simultaneously," said another. ' " This is definately a site worth bookmarking. Consistant giggles.
