What is this, MacDot?
News for Appleheads, stuff that costs a shit ton of money.

Re: Guess who's getting a big contribution
Bing shows that she rode it to fame.

Re:AH! Finally!
Google coverage of my area won't be older than google maps itself!
Finally, I can see past my own childhood!
W-what do you mean they never updated it... again? Oh. Okay.
There is a disagreement between OS and Google on what Google's licensing terms mean. Currently this has prevented the use of OS map layers on google (though they are used on Streetmap and bing. So I think it unlikely that google maps will use this soon.
I have no idea who is right about the interpretation of the terms of service, but it is preventing google's use of open sources OD maps

Re:Who will get
These guys don't really look too bored. I think I'd call that somewhat less casual than ceremonial duties.

Re:South Lake Union vs Redmond Headquarters
The campus is a bunch of buildings with mostly public streets running between them.

No they aren't.
If you want to know what they're up to in Pyong-yang, check out the Bing Maps sat photos of the promenade near the stadium.

Re:Good thing he's In Canada not NJ.
I agree with the spirit of what you are saying, and your frustration. But the Jersey school folks are not a court. Your assessment of our northern friends is a bit blinkered. Quebec suffers from PC phobias and acceptable idea codes that are far beyond the US now, although there are some here willing to catch up. For example, there was an effort to silence Mark Steyn, even to the point of putting ideas on trial. The good news? It comically failed, thanks to the very quick witted Steyn. for the curious: http://binged.it/TkvsFx It is worth checking out.

all these sites are listed on wikipedia
did anyone notice that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_map_images_with_missing_or_unclear_data lists all these sites, and for instance bing maps also show them unblurred?

Re:EU are on crack
As soon as bing maps or open street map get brought up to the quality of google maps, I'll contemplate a switch.
Google maps vladivostok
OpenStreetMap Vladivostok
Bing Maps VladivostokWhat makes you think open street map or bing are not at the quality of google maps? Both have flawed areas, both have extremely well mapped areas.

Re:Litigation costs
Looking at the addresses Uniloc listed in the lawsuit, the locations are just rented office units -- lots of businesses are using the building.

Here's the house in question
Here's the house in question: http://binged.it/OqU6VF
It sold in 2005 for $1.325M
And then in 2009 for $850K to LCHG
And then for $850K in 2011 to James Eason. It's last appraisal was $1.28M
$500K off the original price seems a little steep. The housing market didn't crash nearly that bad around here. Maybe a 20% drop but that'd be about it.

Re:Google Maps Gripes
Mapquest doesn't have the toll roads (95, 895, 695 where they intersect the water) for Baltimore:
http://mapq.st/M6icxv
Bing does:
http://binged.it/MseAw4Not sure how that works with your argument though, but I thought it odd that Mapquest does elsewhere.

Re:Why would it need studies?
"In some places, like where I live
... However, Bing Maps is the best one of them with most information"Yeah, we really really really need a new moderator option, -1 marketdrone
I hate to say it but GP is telling the truth in the case of the UK, especially when it comes to walking trails. Look at this bing map view of a nearby valley. It clearly shows footpaths, contours, wooded areas, etc, you can see where to walk and how difficult the terrain will be. On the other hand the google map view of the same area shows the valley as a blank! I certainly find bing much better for hiking route planning, in fact I would go as far as to say its impossible on google.

Re:Article summary author IP
According to my source, that IP traces back to a railroad track. Better call Steven Seagal to investigate.
-
Re:Trajic and misguided...
This is Google's explanation. From two years ago.
If it's blank now because Google is still not "satisfied with the map data we had available" then Bing Maps is kicking their ass in that area.
