Re:I used one
No need to solder it, here's a site with drivers for just about every OS including a JAVA decoder if your OS doesn't have a specific driver =)

Kenyon & Kenyon... the CueCat Litigators
Hmm, the name sounds familiar...where has Slashdot heard that name before?
BTW - although I'm sure they just meant it as an example, the "10NES" copyright case would have no bearing on developing your own clone console, unless you were specifically designing said console to reject unlicensed cartridges as the actual NES did. The CIC chips on the cartridges authenticate the cart to an official NES, but have no internal connection to the ROMs - failure of the console to implement the authentication would have no effect on playability (you can verify this by cutting the clock pin to the CIC chip in the console*...and play unlicensed carts :) .
*ironically, this is the same method used in many of the CueCat hacks. -

Re:Pseudocode for accomplishing this
I know you're kidding, but the answer is not zero.

My God. This will solve EVERYTHING!
Really, it shouldn't be too hard to create a self-sustaining energy producing system. Distribute free Jack-O-Trons (much like the CueCat a few years ago).
Have volunteers attach the Jack-O-Tron to their wrist, plug the other end into a wall outlet, show them porn, and pass that kinetic eneregy right into the power grid!

Open Source CueCat SoftwareIn curiosity I ran a quick search on google for the cuecat, and came up with a site that has info on a surprising amount of software that acts as an interface for the kitty. It makes me regret not picking up a few while they were availiable. I know I'd take a free (and useable) barcode scanner any day.
If only I had known!
Ah well, I'll just look in the dumpster behind one of the radio shacks near me. I hope the employees at it are too lazy or don't have enough aggression to smash them.

Re:Not "freely hackable"
...or people like myself will be blamed for the company's demise, and they'll use their last remaining dollars to try to sue. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't doubt if this idea's crossed the minds of their "outstanding" legal team.
Or maybe I'm just paranoid - I have a growing history of angering stupid people and large companies - perhaps I should start a gallery of C&D letters I've received..

Mirror/linksOkay, there's probably a few out there already. Why not just say, "me too!" and hop in on it.
Happily accepting corrections and additions.
