Re:Bernie Sanders vs. Hugo Chavez
A point-by-point comparison probably didn't exist because you're the only one who mistakenly thinks its a relevant comparison to make in the first place!
Maybe. But that means, providing links was insufficient — which was why I rejected folks attempting to do that. You are the first to undertake to provide such a list, thank you.
Your attempt to conflate socialists with communists is a strawman fallacy.
Cute, but no. It is not. USSR was never a Communist country — Soviet people were building Communism, not living it. Some ownership of the means of production was tolerated.
You're trying to argue that just because Chavez was bad at governing and happened to be a socialist, that all socialists must be bad at governing
No, that was not my point. What I was saying was that the "features" of Chavez, which you tried to contrast with those of Sanders, were not intentional — they were a result of his ideas put into practice. Since Sanders is yet to occupy an Executive office, we simply do not know any actual results of his ideas.
So, we are reduced to comparing the ideas themselves — and these are, as far as I can see, identical to those of Chavez.
which is a hasty generalization fallacy
Actually, none of the past Socialists have been particularly successful at governing.
You think communists and Nazis are somehow opposite
No, I do not think so for a second — Communists, National Socialists — and all other Collectivists are hardly distinguishable from one another. All forms of Collectivism value the Collective (a.k.a. Community) above the Individual. This approach inevitably destroy human rights (hey, our glorious Collective is more important than your silly liberties) and the economy. Sometimes it devolves further — into killing fields of one kind or another — which Venezuela seems to have avoided.
But back to the original topic — in your attempt to come up with differences between the two men, you unwittingly offered similarities (nationalizations) and then proceeded to contrast, what Chavez actually accomplished (quadrupling of violent crime, destroyed infrastructure, shrinking economy — at the times of oil-price booming) with what you hope Sanders will avoid. In other words, you were unable to offer anything. Just as I suspected.
I will now consider other contenders, but I'm done with you. Thanks for playing, but fail.

Re:NYT had an interesting write-up. . .
Health insurance is meaningless if you cannot get healthcare, they are different things.
Is the US doctors are not just refusing new patients, they are retiring, leaving the practice, declining to enter the field.
When the state dictates the minimum level of care and the cost this does two things; This enslaves the provider by interfering with his ability to negotiate the terms of his product or service himself, and eventually this minimum level of care will be the only level of care available to anyone, save for the elites of course.
"Free government health insurance" sounds great doesn't it. But one cannot ignore reality, nothing is free and the government fails at nearly everything it does.
The Soviet Union had a constitution in 1936 provided it's citizens with an impressive sounding list of rights:
http://www.departments.bucknell.edu/russian/const/36cons04.html#chap10
This included the right to work, to leisure time, to healthcare, to retirement etc. etc. etc.
Didn't work out too well did it?
But no, all these socialist systems that have come before Obama were just not tried *properly* now were they? They didn't have a leader as *smart* as Obama to implement them, *this* time they will get it right I'm sure.
Yes that was sarcasm.

Re:Obligatory Soviet Russia joke:
The Soviet constitution guaranteed freedom of speech.
I know it's a joke post, but this is an unfortunate common misconception nonetheless. Consitution of the USSR never truly guaranteed freedom of speech. Yes, the article was there, but it was subject to conditions of Article 39, specifically:
"Enjoyment by citizens of their rights and freedoms must not be to the detriment of the interests of society or the state"
Similar provisions existed in pretty much all Communist states, and one still exists in present-day Constitution of PRC.

Good link!
I found a free PDF version of the article, if anyone is interested.
From page 11:
"Acorn production by the red oak [turkey oak] had the greatest [correlation] with precipitation. Numbers of acorns per ramet were negatively associated with wet season (July) rainfall two years previous and with rainfall during the dry season (October through May) three years previous in each association where this oak occurred. Similarly, the combined acorn crops of [turkey oaks] from all associations correlated negatively with wet season (July) rainfall two years previous ... and with dry season rain three years previous.""Acorn production of the white oak [Chapman oak] was positively correlated in at least one association with rainfall during the preceding late dry season (March) and negatively with rainfall during the preceding July. Acorn production by this oak in all associations combined was positively correlated with precipitation during the preceding dry season... Similar to [Chapman oak], the other white oak [sand live oak] showed a negative relationship with the previous year's July rainfall in scrub and a positive correlation with September rainfall one year previous
... when all associations were combined."However, the paper found that sandhill oak and myrtle oak has a positive correlation between rainfall and acorn production. Even so, in the article they talk about strong rains this year in Washington, and there is a possibility that that might be related to the problem there. Who knows?

Congratulations, Microsoft
The license for the software is $399, and the 'standard' Pioneer P3DX robot that's made for home use is $40,000.
You're telling me that this is made for home use? What is it supposed to do at my house? I used them for my robotics class in college and I wasn't too impressed.
Oh, and, by the way, the simulation software we used to test our software was a little project called player/stage. I didn't delve into the licensing prices on it but I think it comes to about $0. And don't give me that "Yeah but you have to train in it so it costs you more" crap.
[A]s I look at the trends that are now starting to converge, I can envision a future in which robotic devices will become a nearly ubiquitous part of our day-to-day lives,' Gates writes in the January issue of Scientific American.
Congratulations, Bill, did you just finish reading I, Robot? Or maybe you caught a trailer for the terrible movie by the same name? Or perhaps you picked up any sci-fi novel from 1955-present? Oh, no, I think I've got it. You're trying to enter a field you haven't done any research in by using your mountains of cash again? Sounds familiar, I wish you the best of luck. I just hope your robots aren't running Windows Vista or CE. -
Re:If you don't like it, why not ignore it?
"I get most of my news from the web now, as I'm not that impressed with any of the news networks. I don't watch Fox News at all anymore, though I used to watch it every day. I knew then that they were biased. It wasn't until later that I realized how misinformed their viewers are [mediamatters.org]"
I watch them very little anymore. Everyone has bias, but in terms of political bias Fox tended to be neither left or right. I also had the "pleasure" of watching CNN Headline News yesterday. There was a guy on there for a few hours talking about how great conservative Republicans are. It looks like "Headline News" has gone to that place on the right where Fox News never really was... However, can't you come up with a better source than a biased editorial from Media Matters, which is one branch of the George Soros political campaign industry?
(quoted) "Some of the misperceptions Fox News viewers have are that they are statistically more likely to believe WMDs were found in Iraq, and to believe Saddam Hussein is tied to Bin Laden, than viewers of any other network or newspaper."
On the first issue, that makes them more informed. According to actual data, many WMD have been found. As for the second one, there were ties, but how deep and close were they?
"Fox News isn't just biased. They spread false information."
No more or no less than any organization. I did watch the documentary. It was a perfect example of a partisan piece, sort of like a campaign ad, designed to selectively build a case.
Wanting to censor Fox News? Not you personally. However cooked editorial pieces by outfits that basically hate Fox News for not having their preferred bias are used as fodder by those who actually push to censor it.
"Meanwhile I'm going to enjoy sharing these films, articles, links, etc. with others whom are interested, as I have just done."
By all means. You have as much right to misinform as Rupert Murdoch does :) -
Re:Downtime?
I found a picture from the study. I think this explains a few things.

Re:Vista != Vista's 3D Interface
It's not like there's a major visual difference between Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000 or XP (with the classic theme and Start menu, as I prefer).
