As far as I know, they are already available from Buslink....maybe not at a reasonable price, but they are there. Apparently the 32GB and 64GB versions are to be released soon. -
Re:one movie?
I MEANT gigabytes. A 'gig' usually is short for gigabyte. Or at least I thought so. http://www.buslink.com/p_cat1.asp?catID=60

Re:...and cost.
Well, it's a little (ie: a lot) more expensive, but drives do go bigger than 1GB:

Re:SanDisk ultra II
The easiest way to find out if your card is Cardbus:
Every Cardbus card I've ever encountered has a metal strip at the contact end that runs parallel to the edge of the card. It's usually made of gold, and you really can't miss it. I have never seen anything like it on a PCMCIA card.
Here are a couple pictures if you need a visual cue. Note the large gold strip on the end.

Re:Site Down?
Works fine fer me.
Including their message board. Sounds like a good place to start complaining. -
Site Down?
Well, it looks like http://www.buslink.com/ is down. I wonder if Slashdot has anything to do with this?
If so... good job guys. :) -
Re:Yes, tape is going
You say:
Meanwhile, there won't be a reasonable backup system for the home user, and there really hasn't *EVER* been one.
If by "reasonable" you mean cheap, then I somewhat agree with you - but as far as things go, DDS is perfect for home users. It's tiny 4mm tape and VCR-like loading mechanism isn't suited for business environments, but is perfect for home users. If only the drives weren't so pricey - little DDS-4 drives (20 Gb Native/40 Gb compressed) runs over $1000.
If you'd like to use a backup system for your home, try an external HDD, like those from BusLink. They even have one that uses an external Serial ATA connection - just as fast as being on your system.
Back up the home system, leave it at work. Works for me. -

BUSLink
Personally, I've been using Buslink's 20 GB USB Hard drive for the past 6 months.
Bought it in Comp USA for about $300, it's running closer to $200 now.
Haven't had any problems with it under Win98, just download the drivers from the web page and go.
Haven't had the time to look into Linux support for it, but if someone wants to slap me upside the head with info on it, I wouldn't argue. :)
