Corrected Dries' Link
Here is the correct link to Dries' blog post on the subject: http://buytaert.net/living-our-values
Irony is that the 'living our values' blog post is anything but living our values in the Drupal community. -
Quick, patch whitehouse.gov!!!
Quick, patch whitehouse.gov

http://buytaert.net/whitehouse...
More seriously, I assume they also run some kind of WAF that would catch the attempt even if drupal wasn't yet patched since I do and I am much much smaller.

Good model
Drupal is an awesome CMS framework for web development. It's widely used and has a thriving userbase and developer community ( see http://buytaert.net/tag/drupal-sites for a good list of Drupal sites. Such crowd-funding initiatives are a good way to enable users to "put their money where the code is" and support their favourite open source project.

Re:Drupal 7 == Perl 6?
If you're not making your photo gallery with Views, you're doing it wrong. And it's been done with Views for a long time.
That looks interesting but incomplete: galleries? access control? only displays single column? Also, it's written for D4, so likely in need of revision.
Create an image gallery using CCK and Views is more promising.
However, I have no interest in converting a couple dozen photo albums to some other format, hence I'm stuck at D6, and may well move to ZenPhoto if I must migrate. The photo site hasn't had new albums created in at least a year, and probably no photos added since last summer; it's gone mostly inactive.
And Misery? You can't seriously be using a module that has only 123 users (at time of posting) and complain about lack of support!
Note that I wasn't complaining. I also probably shouldn't have used "rely" -- they were hobby projects that, once found by spammers, became honey pots -- I make them suffer Misery so they don't spam everyone else.
Finally, Drupal 8 isn't there yet at all, and may be released in August next year.
I'm curious if there will be any API changes between D7 & D8?

Drupal Content Management Framework
I am building more and more web applications with Drupal. Its ease of integration with web services, and the project's progressive strategy to fully support HTML5 and mobile-first, make Drupal a versatile tool to build applications managing content, community, social media, and with the maturation of the Ubercart/Drupal Commerce project, ecommerce.
Drupal is definitely not a "lean" framework, and it has a steep learning curve; fortunately I identified Drupal as a good horse 6 years ago when the ground-breaking Drupal 4.7 was about to be released.
A look at who is using Drupal - Publishing, Media, Entertainment, Government, Education, Ecommerce, Arts - confirms that it is a framework chosen for complex Enterprise web applications: http://buytaert.net/tag/drupal-sites -
Re:What does Drupal look like
Anyone got any web sites made by/with Drupal? Id like to see some of hte outcomes. I dont know anything about it but I want to look into it. Google was not help finding Drupal made web sites. I only assume Drupal.org is made by drupal but I would like to see more.
Plenty of drupal sites listed here on Dries's website http://buytaert.net/tag/drupal-sites

Not the first open source CMS certified by MSFT
It's always dangerous to claim you're the first.
http://buytaert.net/microsoft-and-drupal (2007): "Last week at the O'Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON), Microsoft and SpikeSource announced their intention to work together to certify a number of Open Source projects on the Microsoft Windows platform. According to the press release, Drupal is the first application that has been tested and certified for Microsoft Windows

Thank You White House
Although I don't agree with many of the current administration's policies, I LOVE this one. Instead of spending crazy amounts of *OUR* money they went with a free solution. One that they can share their improvements back with the community and with other agencies. This action will encourage # many business, small and large, to jump on the open source bandwagon, and stimulate the economy. How does using free software stimulate the economy? easy. Companies like Acquia, Mollom, Four Kitchens are able to get bigger contracts from bigger corporations ( http://buytaert.net/att-using-drupal ) and small shops and independent contractors get more jobs from other small business. You know the kind that drive our economy. In all, thank you Mr. Obama for putting the right people in charge of your website!

So Dries is not dead...
I was so freaked out there. What with the recent death of Arnold Stang, it would have been too much to bear.
Long live the Drupal God http://buytaert.net/ -
Low Expectations
The current Recovery.gov site is running Drupal on Apache/Linux, and the site designers made at least a token effort to support current Web standards in the markup (while it is XHTML with a tableless layout, the W3C's validator did flag many problems when I checked it so it isn't perfect). :
On the other hand, the new prime contractor's Web site www.smartronix.com is running on Microsoft-IIS/6.0. They do not appear to be making much of an effort to support current Web standards (fixed, table based layout).
So who knows, maybe they will build a beautiful new site for that $18m, but I like the old site and will be sad to see it go.

Who uses open source
One convincing argument for using FOSS is to name major companies/organizations using it. For Drupal there is a nice list of sites at http://buytaert.net/tag/drupal-sites. Among organizations are Google, Nokia, Symantec, NHL, Disney, Sun and Nike to name a few.

This is a good thing for open source applications
Disclaimer: I work for http://acquia.com/ , and we provide commercial support and network services for the open-source Drupal CMS. Over several weeks, we worked with Microsoft to make sure Drupal would be well represented in the Windows Application Gallery to provide IIS users access to an easy to use Drupal installation. The result is here http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/AcquiaDrupal.aspx We already provide Drupal Windows and Mac stack installers for Apache at http://acquia.com/downloads and so this was a natural extension of our mission to increase Drupal usage. Overall it was a positive experience and a way for us to ensure that the Drupal market continues to grow by supporting end-users who are committed to Microsoft's IIS and can't or prefer not use Apache. Microsoft of course also is motivated to ensure IIS is a great platform for any application, so we see this as a win-win. If you'd like to learn more, our CTO Dries Buytaert wrote about it when the Windows Application Gallery launched at http://buytaert.net/microsoft-promoting-drupal

Re:Content Management System is not a design progr
Well, developer has utmost freedom to redesign theme from scratch or mod currently available ones, here are some websites done in drupal, check it out:
I completely agree however, drupal != dreamweaver.

Check who uses drupal
I have extensive experience building in Drupal -- module and theme development.
I've noticed that immediate impression people have about Drupal is that it's only a blog CMS. But it isn't so at all. I welcome you to visit Drupal founder's blog, where he lists all interesting sites that use Drupal. Sometimes even I am (pleasantly) surprised at the ogranizations and institutions who move on to use Drupal. Check it out: http://buytaert.net/tag/drupal-sites

Re:Any major websites, or high traffic ones runs i
Hell, The Onion is using it. That's a pretty high-profile editorial site, even if it's funny editorial.

Re:powerful but learning curve is steepHowever, if you want to customize the behavior of the CMS at all, you really have to start digging into the core, and breaking a few things. No, no, no. You do not hack the core. You extend by writing modules and/or overriding theme functions.
If you have not learned to stay off the road to Drupal hell you have much left to climb left on the Drupal learning curve. -
value but no payment
So, not only users pay for Adobe products, not only these products are closed-source, but the user is also feeding the business of a profit-making analytics company as well as helping some marketing guys in Adobe justify their bonuses without the user getting any payment. User software usage data have value, so why should the user give up their usage data with no payment? Why should Adobe users give all this value for free without something in return? We do this with free software like Gimp (via ingimp), but I see no reason why one should help closed-source shops this way. One could say that users are paid in terms of better software releases, but I call bullshit: if Adobe was so concerned about this they would make their stuff free. We all know very well that there is no business reason (apart from legalities over code copyright belonging to third parties etc) to keep the code hidden, since making money with free software is not only possible but many times easier (and more ethical, since the user is not coerced in any way). This is the best way to conduct business: Create value without coercion. The popularity of a free software package can quickly be monetised, for example soon-to-be-a-Dr Drupal founder recently got $7 million out of the blue. I actually could go on to even say that not making a piece of software free is stupid from all perspectives (business, ethical, etc).

Yes, GPL3 does.

Unless you think that someone would "receive" such a package with the express intent not to employ it. -
Re:Drupal Optimization == oxymoron
Or they might want to read the 22nd chapter of the book. It's titled Optimizing Drupal and deals with performance and scalability. Many high-profile sites, such as ubuntu.com, have scaled Drupal. You can see some of them here.

Re:I've already upgraded..
Real tie in between desktop and server apps is a killer feature, and collaboration is a very meaningful feature to a lot of people. The average Slashdot hack may not recognize this, but people like Dries (founder of Drupal, a php web "cms") do... http://buytaert.net/sharepoint-2007
We're looking at Jahia ourselves, would you mind sending me an email as I have some questions.
