    $2K per node price differnce? A dual 2.3 GHz Xserve cluster node is $2999. I'm not sure where you're getting dual Xeon nodes for $999. (Of course you'll need more RAM for both machines, probably, but that's the same price for either platform.)

    California Digital offers pre-configured Mac and Intel clusters. Turns out an Xserve cluster will cost you less per flop than a Xeon cluster. And their performance figures are using the 2 GHz Xserve models, which were replaced with 2.3 GHz models last week at the same price.

    California Digital Corporation bought VA's hardware business back in 2002. Maybe they have information that'd help you.

    California Digital bought VA's hardware line when VA got out of the hardware business.

    Did you try contacting them?

    The six servers (of three flavors) that I had were all Intel server motherboards, Intel CPUs, popular raid controllers (I forget brand/model), and VXA standard tape drives. What's confusing about that?

    A lot of people in this thread are suggesting that Sun offer prettified servers to impress clients. I'll only make an observation that a company has tried selling servers before that had a major selling point of "cool blue light." That company no longer sells servers.
