Haven't noticed many people/sites/comments (except for a few of us on Mac OS X-Talk over at the Omni Group's website) talking about this:
The lucky bastards who are ordering the 867mHz or 1gHz models will have 10.2 before the rest of us. And according to macosrumors.com, systems
being shipped out in the past few days have begun arriving to their new owners with OS X 10.2 CDs included -- clearly indicating that Apple has completed development on Jaguar and that build 6C115 is indeed the final version of the new OS.
etc, etc.(That, by the way, was on Monday, August 12, 2002.)
So what's up... are we going to see Shaguar in retail stores sooner than the 24th?
Or am The Rest Of Us(tm) going to have to load up Carracho?

Jaguar -- 10.2 Developer Preview 1 -- was released at the World Wide Developer's Conference to registered attendees. Since then, it has filtered down to the Carracho and Hotline worlds.

I've always wondered how feasable it would be to set up a LARGE virtual network on top of the internet. The problem would be making sure that only trusted people get onto it. Once you have this large network, you'd be free to do whatever you wanted on it, with not much worry of law enforcement, government, or clueless people interfering with your work.

you mean like Hotline or Carracho? They're not exactely for "trusted" individuals only, but they are a network on top of the internet, with their own protocols etc. and normal people (like lawyers :) don't really know about it.

What about Hotline? Besides being the seamy realm of warez and pr0n, there are many private or quasi-private true BBS sites... Mac Gaming Ledge has a great Hotline site, for example. And though Hotline is starting to suck hardcore with the newer releases, there are alternatives like Carracho. www.hotlinesw.com www.carracho.com

I wonder what the differences between Napster, HotLine and Carracho are. All of them seem to allow to temporarily serve files and chat sessions from your local computer to the world, obviously intended for mp3 and warez trading. I think HotLine and Carracho are mainly popular in the Mac community. They seem to have some sort of tracker site to make it easy to find servers. Anybody knows more?
