Re:mainframes rock
I think your crystal ball is a little cloudy. Mainframes will be with us for a very long time to come, but that "legacy" code is exactly the reason. If we learned anything from Y2K (besides the fact that a concerted effort can head off a disaster), it should be that we're not going to re-write and replace those old programs and systems unless we absolutely have to. So, the next time your job goes to India and all you get is that lousy t-shirt, start looking at mainframe shops and go convince the managers that you've got a lot of skills and just need some training. They expect to have to train people, so they're always looking for folks who can learn and become productive.

o n?op=catalogue-products-null&prodCategoryID=11and have a look about half-way down the page for the "glow in the dark" keyrings. Quote:
"Inside each GlowRing is a single sealed glass tube which contains a minute amount of active gas that permanently reacts with a luminescent coating."
Translation: "active gas" == tritium.
I've got a couple on order at the moment, for geek-type Xmas presents. They limit sales to UK customers only.
"Please note that due to international regulations regarding this item THIS PRODUCT IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO UK RESIDENTS AND CANNOT BE SENT TO ANY ADDRESS OUT OF THE COUNTRY."

Get the No2ID T-ShirtNo2ID TShirt at TheRegister's OnLine Store.
Not being a UK Subject, I probably shouldn't buy the TShirt, but here in the US we've got our own problems with the RealID act giving us a real national ID card real soon unless we stop it.

Re:Non-lethal exposure
Oh please, I've got one of these, And it's filled with tritium. And I'm still alive, and I still have 10 toes, 8 fingers and 2 thumbs.
This "Nuclear is bad because they made big bombs out of it" is getting old. You can make perfectly good bombs/explosives without using any nuclear reactions AND it's far far easier.

Luminous Keyrings......powered by tritium decay have been available for ages. Here's one, for example.
Of course, you can't buy them in paranoically advantaged countries like the US, but a couple of years ago I bought a bunch as Christmas presents for all the members of my family --- they're surprisingly useful.

Something like this?
You mean something like this t-shirt?
I think it's ironic, but I'm not quite sure.

Snooping e-mail for fun and profit
Perhaps OSDN should send the defendant, accused in 2001 of reading users emails in order to find out what they were interested in purchasing from Amazon, a T-shirt from ThinkGeek?"
Or perhaps an O'Really "snooping email for fun and profit" T-shirt? -
Re:Remedy
Can someone point me to an easy-to-read article that explains the problems with IE, what alternatives like Firefox exist, and how to switch? I want to send it to everyone I know, urging them to switch away from IE.
Seriously, though, this article from Forbes is a little dated, and doesn't mention security, but isn't bad. It's worth trawling through Mozillazine's archives - I couldn't find them just now, but I seem to remember a while back they had a whole bunch of "why switch?" articles.

From the article...
They link to a product called a USB watch...
Apparently the plug is on a cable that slides out of the watch. I can't imagine using a USB storage device that physically tethers me to the computer.
I prefer to psychologically tether myself. -

The companion book seems, uh, interesting too.

Re:Is it just me...That's O'Really.
The thing is, I wish the real O'Reilly would print Pratical UNIX Terrorism. I would pay good money for that book, just for the bragging rights of simply owning it.

Cybertool
I would definatly recommend a Swiss Army Cyber Tool. It has been the most useful bit of kit I have for working on PCs and you can do a lot of things just with it yet it still fits in your pocket. Granted its no substitute for a proper tool kit but a good quick tool.
