Re:Which meme now?
Does it run linux? Because if it doesn't, we probably need to find someone who does.

How about ChainSawLinux?
Have a look here. It's made by people having the same problems as you (although I personally think you failed to start with the right platform) and they just went ahead and created their own.
Now imagine something that Windows doesn't support (like working in a reliable fashion, but I digress) - you'd be stuck.
I guess the real problem you're highlighting is that you still need to do a bit of upfront research, and that I'd agree with. Getting a HP PCS range printer to work on SuSE 9.2 Pro is still pretty crap, for instance (you have to avoid the normal installer), -
Wasting bandwidthHooray for the next big bandwidth waster! Everyone needs to stream not just text describing what I did today, and not just pictures, but full-friggin-motion video showing just what I may have done today!
This is about the fifth +5 insightful, funny troll post about what a waste video blogging is.
No bandwith is wasted when someone visits a site and downloads a video. They want to see it. Tons of bandwith is wasted every day by advertisers who movies into 80% of their visitor's browsers. Requested video is not a waste. Forced video is. Get the difference?
The real story is that it is now easy to make movies on Linux. Angula has got what you want. They in turn point to dynebolic and Chainsaw. Don't take my word for it, go get an iso or a live CD and see it for yourself.

I'd still go with the GeForce(2)Why? Because, if I remember correctly, the drivers are the same used in the GeForce (please correct me if I'm wrong). That alone will make for a better product in the long run. The more well-tested your drivers are, the better off you are. I've never had any luck with ATI cards. Last time I tested one out, Quake(1) wouldn't even show the textures properly. Oh well - and I've heard such good things too...

I guess we could fight daemons...Yes, you too can join in with your sega and NetBSD to kill off those pesky daemons... Ahh, heck with it - what can you do with NetBSD on a Dreamcast?

Re:Film vs. Video
The flame wars going on over to alt.movies.cinematography and alt.movies.independent have covered this more times than you'd want to imagine. He's using HDDV, which is almost comparible to 35mm (supposedly). He's also using some special lenses which will help things out immensly. I hope it makes a great movie because the medium is a lot cheaper to use. If he makes great headway with it and people say to themselves "Wow, what a great movie - and shot on Video no less!" People will start to look at independant movies shot on video a lot differently. Depending on Lucas, it could go from "Nahh, not interested. It was shot on video." to "What is the story about again?"
