CodefreeDVD also do FBI disabled....I don't work for these people, not did I buy a DVD player from them (I gave my business to a local supplier).
They have been online for several years to my knowledge, and the site seems regularly updated.
They do their own mods, which instead of changing regions on the fly, allows you to select the region with a single keypress. This means that they tend to be slightly more pricey than a vanilla system.
They also do macrovision disabled (a technology which prohibits use in home projection systems) and they do FBI warning disabled (the point of the original question).
Codefreedvd is the site, using Google gets you exactly what you want, for example this 300 dvd sony (for UK power supply). They do ship around the world, you'll have to search for your own specs. -

Re:Buy your DVD players from Australia
CodeFreeDVD.com sell DVD players which have been modified to play DVDs from all regions, Region 1 thru Region 6. And according to the site, they're even guaranteed against future regional coding protection including RCE (Region Code Enhancement).

Re:I don't get it...Just as others have mentioned, there are Region 0 DVDs, which are region free.
If you're looking for a region free DVD player, check out CodeFreeDVD.com. Their DVD players have no region lock protection on them, thus allowing you to view all movies, from region 1 thru region 6.

Howdie,
Has anyone got some info on the url above? Is this a respectable company? Do they charge fair prices? Is their customer service okay?
And most importantly: do they deliver what they promise?

Re:Slashdot Hypocrisy: The Next Generation.
The goal of any journalistic organization is to report the news that is of interest to its audience.
I so TOTALLY agree!
From the story: "the ps2 is a cheap full featured DVD" player
The problem is that they are NOT reporting the news that is of interest to the audience. The two most important features of any DVD player are that it:
1) Doesn't support an assault on the U.S. Constitution.
2) Doesn't restrict how we play DVD's in any way.
The Sony PS2 does not have either of these features, therefore it is very far from a "full-featured DVD player", like those available here.
It's not groupthink. It's FACTTHINK. -
Won't Work
If you look at codefreedvd.com they already claim to have addressed this. You can actually set the player to emulate any specific region that that you want, so that these types of "protection" schemes will fail. It is interesting to see that discs can apparently interrogate the player. I don't know the details, but it looks like discs do have at least some software like functions on them.

less talk, more action...Instead of whining about the fact that we are losing our fair usage rights, here are five concrete steps that you can take:
- Become a member of EFF at
https://www.eff.org/support/joineff.html
They are one of the few folks who are putting their time and money where their mouth is and fighting back. - Buy some "stop the MPAA" stuff at http://store.yahoo.com/2600hacker/a ntimpaa.html
- Order a DVD player with country codes disabled at http://www.codefreedvd.com/dvd_dvdpla yers.htm
- Write to your Representative in the United States House at http://www.house.gov/writerep
- Write to your Senators at
http://www.senate.gov
I would love it if people replied to this comment with other action items that people could do. - Become a member of EFF at

If you want quality
Get a modified brand name player, there are many places that sell them, CodefreeDVD for instance. These guys are trying to take advantage of all the controversy over DeCSS to sell a flimsy peice of equipment.
-
Alternatively
You could just buy a hacked DVD player from a place like code free DVD There are a LOT of places openly selling multi region players.
-
Regionless DVD
If you want a DVD player that works everywhere, check out www.codefreedvd.com

hardware can be cracked to y'know :-)
www.codefreedvd.com is a British firm that'll happily sell you that DVD player you've been drooling over, but with the ability to play imported DVDs and to get rid of the signal degradation that MacroVision causes.
It's all a game. hack, counterhack.

Re:Regional Encoding
There are plenty of places that sell DVD players with the region lock removed. I bought a Pioneer DV-606D from DVD City. It autodetects the zone and you never even notice that it has zones. In England Code Free DVD sells really nice ones that are guaranteed to work on all DVDs, even in the future, but they are more expensive, and most of them require that you change zones on the remote everytime you change to a disc with a different zone. I'm sure that there are more places too, but those were the two main ones I looked at.

DVD - BAH!
Most places are will sell you DVD players, with a normal guarantee & warranty, that have been chipped. They can play all regions.
The Creative Labs DVD-Player can be 'hacked' to play all regions also.
Check out www.codefreedvd.com for an example.
