Fridrik Skulason / FRISK / F-protJust a side note: The F-Prot Antivirus program produced by Skulason's company is among the best I have seen. It handily puts Norton and McAfee in their places. It's what I put on my mother's computer. If you are looking for a good antivirus program for windows that's non-bloated and simply does its job with as little fluff as possible, check out F-prot. There are also linux and BSD versions.
I am a satisfied customer, although sadly their business licenses have become a lot more $expensive lately.

Please restrain the knee-jerk reactionAs much as we like to poke fun at Steve Gibson, you might want to take a look at the way he delivers his flagship product SpinRite.
It's also similar to the way F-Prot Antivirus is delivered.
Basically each customer gets a login for the web site and can download from there. It avoids serial generators and cracks because you can't just download the shareware and then apply a crack. The only people who even get the opportunity to download the software are those who have paid so it's less likely (but still inevitable) that they will give it away, share it on kazaa, etc.

Re:hah"The last time i tried one of those BIG-NAME ntivirus soultions. (name withheld in fear of a defamation suit), It completely crashed my OS, my Hard Disk and my motherboard."
That would be the Macaffee anti-virus, I believe. It's a pretty common story. I've rescued a few clients' machines that were hosed by that piece of junk.
If you are looking for an anti-virus to pitch to your boss who believes that no-cost == no value then I suggest you look into F-Prot Antivirus which has detected BigBear since 2002 Oct 03 and has FreeBSD, Linux, DOS and Windows versions. It is a non-lame anti-virus program that does NOT hose systems.

Want to tell McAfee and Norton NO MORE?Then don't buy their products. Vote with your dollars by spending them elsewhere.
Go out and get FRISK Software'sF-Prot antivirus instead. It is competently written with timely updates. I have relied on it since before I ever heard of the internet. There are DOS, Windows (network or standalone) and ($free) Linux versions. They do not generate hype or nasty bloated programs. They do generate a good antivirus product.
I do not work for this company. I am just a satisfied customer. You can get free trials on their site. Prices: US$25/yr for single private license, US$2/machine for corporate or educational ($40min) and there are extra educational discounts.

Two Reasons! Now there are two reasons we should look at Iceland as an example for the rest of us:
1. Plans and commitment for oil independence.
2. Damn good anti-virus software (including a free linux scanner.)

Re:Windows98SE box slagged. Who'da thunk it?Has anyone experienced any similar problems? And does anyone just happen to have, handily downloadable from their home page, a set of NAV rescue floppy images with up-to-date virus defs? Pleeeeeease?
I'm running Win98 SE and am having absolutely no problems (actually, it has crashed 4 times after midnight, but that's normal for this box
:I). I've never used NAV and thus have no idea where to get it, try F-Prot (DOS program) instead. It's allways very up to date, defs were updated yesterday.
