Please mods!I saw this because I have the "interesting" modifier with older accounts to bring comments up. Boy, whoever modded you up should have their privileges taken away forever. It's just a jumble of important-sounding words without a point, about something that doesn't even apply. Completely out of place.
BTW, for some reason after I read your post for the third time trying to make some sense out of it I suddenly realized that this is the mental image I came away with. That's you, getting ready to do battle with the forces of non-free software =)

98-tan
There are these things called "OS-tans." Anime-styled anthropomorphizations of the Microsoft operating system line. The one representing Windows 98 (First Edition) is, in fact, a cardboard box with computer-like symbols painted on it.

Umm..
Isn't this essentially just cosplay? Individuals dressing as characters from a (video game)/(PC game)/(pencil & paper RPG) isn't exactly new.

Not just the same but even more so...
For those people who can't be bothered to read the article, one of the main points was that:
A record 3 million people around the world are now studying the Japanese language, compared with only 127,000 in 1997, according to the Japan Foundation and Tokyo's Marubeni Research Institute.
So, in other words, there is a measurable increase in the cultural cachet of Japan, it's not just a static, ongoing event. And it's not just about manga and anime, but food (sushi restaurants are now ubiquitous in any large city), and jrock/jpop, the prime examples of which are Glay, KinKi Kids, Puffy (known in the US as Puffy AmiYumi so as to avoid confusion with a certain hiphop impresario), Hamasaki Ayumi, the New York born Utada Hikaru and Morning Musume, a group of currently 15 girls that form the most well known part of a pop empire.
Furthermore, even anime seems to be taking up an ever larger bite of the US Cartoon Network's schedule and the traditional Saturday Morning/after-school children's fare. It's even made a few recent ventures into wide release cinema in the US.
However, one could argue, I think persuasively, that's Japan's cultural upswing is part of a larger trend in the Asia-fication of Western culture. What started with egg foo yung and chop suey has now branched out to shabu-shabu and kimchi. What began with Speed Racer and Godzilla has developed into Princess Mononoke, cosplay and Shaolin Soccer. -
Re:That... that's just not right! :(
there's gonna be a bunch of seriously pissed off Zelda fans.
And we all know what they're like! -
Cosplayers have been doing this for awhile
And Gchan recently modelled a DOAX swimsuit.
I'm not sure if its video game fashion catching on, or just Cosplay in general is catching on, and Video Games have cool costumes. My ex-roommate was an avid cosplayer, and she drew from video games, Japanese and American movies, as well as actual anime for her costumes.
All that said, video game characters sport some very cool clothing, some of which you can buy official versions of, like Tidus' pants.

What did you say?
But yes, nice butt?
Number cannot describe her temperature. -
WITHOUT the costume

The costume
I could do without the costume, but in five words: damn, the girl is fly.

O o o h baby...
But seriously...
I'm all about blondes. And legs. And Blondes with great legs.
There are a few lookers, but then again, we're slashdotters. Do you think that they would stay if any of us went? Well, the above ones would... not the blonde... unless she was blind. And she couldn't smell. -

Re:I don't know if I would let me children watch t
There was another young woman who father would make her wear revealing anime costumes for something called cosplay, I wonder if I should have alerted the authorities about possible abuse?
That depends. Was the cosplay sexual in nature? Was she "underage" as defined by your local laws? If the answer to both questions is yes, do you really need it spelled out for you?
I wonder why kids can't stick with good old-fashioned healthy American cartoons like Bugs Bunny or Roadrunner.
Riiight. Have you seen some of the racist ones?. While I feel they're important for older kids to watch and think about, they're not "healthy." Of course, Bugs made up for that later by teaming with Michael Jordan... right?
Please tell me you're just trolling...
