Zelda Master Sword Forged For Fan
An anonymous reader writes "Do you pretend you are the Hero of Time in your sleep? Are you the biggest Zelda fan on the block? Well, take a gander at what this Zelda fan owns... a real-life replica of the famous Master Sword from the Legend of Zelda series." The article mentions: "After a ten-month wait period and a £1,800 transaction (around $3,300)... [a Scottish] blacksmith provided updates of his progress during the one-and-a-half-month forging process."
Now if I he could only forge a lightsaber.
"After 2 months and four limbs later, the lightsmith completed the feat. However, the buyer, a Mr. D. Maul, could not be located for comment."
Seriously, I've been wanting to get into collecting swords. I've been searching for a Zelda replica, but to no avail. Within the next year, I want to buy a "Highlander" katana, and a sword from Lord of the Rings.
But THIS one tops my list. I've loved Zelda since the original (with Link to the Past being my favorite game of all time).
Do you pretend you are the Hero of Time in your sleep?
sorry, i don't pretend.
So, does he have the official Zelda Ocarina also?
but w t f are you going to do with it!!?!
SURELY NOT!!!!!
Our intelligent designer has never created an animal that we couldn't improve by strapping a bomb to it.

Some day, some poor anthropologist is going to find this, and write a paper wherein they detail their amazing discovery that Zelda wasn't just a video game, but a true story, and here's the sword to prove it!
Sad part is he/she/it might be believed; more people believe in Atlantis on less evidence...
Have the little blue bombs from Zelda. Those were cool. Pricey, but cool.

I saw an ad for this ocarina in Nintendo Power, but there was a disclaimer that they were not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo.
Time to cancel that credit card, NOW, Manny/Susan. Your link just allowed (with the help of a VERY stupid ecommerce website) people to gain access to your credit card info. :(
This person also commissioned a blacksmith to make a Master Sword. He goes one better. He commissioned a leathersmith to create a sheath for it. (delete the space in the URL)

he has the accompanying tree stump in a forest glade to store it in.
I can see the police report now: "Perpetrator entered the victim's home at which time he was impaled by a 'Master Sword'. Victim claimed he thought perpetrator was a 'boss' and was hoping his death would result in the release of someone named 'Zelda'. Further investigation required. Psychiatric evaluation of victim strongly recommended."
The weapon that all kids want is the BFG from Doom.
Nothing better than shooting a green pulse at the wall and wipe out your entire town.

Wouldn;t it be possible for someone with dbase knowledge to completely fuck them over?
The commissioner was also inducted into the Guinness Book of Record's new category of "Geekiest Man Alive."
That is wicked. Personally I like the Bug Net better. Someone should have He-Man's sword forged, that's an awesome sword but it would be pretty heavy as He-Man was the only person really strong enough to wield it, but still it would be cool. After that all we need is the Sword of Omens from Thundercats.
What they hell are you gonna do with a sword? You're not gonna fight with it. (Unless it's a regulation fencing blade or a kendo stick, or whatever those dorks in the SCA wail on each other with...) What are you gonna do, hang it over the fireplace in your medieval castle (read: apartment) to complete the decor? Yeah, I'm sure it'll look great with the X-Files posters and Yoda figurines.
To the best of my knowledge, Samurai X is the name that was used the first time the series was localized for the US. In Japan (again, this is to the best of my knowledge, as I don't watch the series-- not a big fan of period pieces) the series was always called Ruroni Kenshin.
Why people are arguing this in a thread about Zelda is beyond me, but hey.
Now that I've stalled long enough to Google it, Samurai X is the (old) US name, before the people in charge of coming up with the name "Samurai X" were beaten, shot, and hanged. In that order.
"Why Subscribe?" Good question...
But Thomas, I know you're wrong. The Master sword has been used by two eight-year old kids.
Greg Dean of Real Life Comics has had a Master Sword replica for years!
Heh, this thing's "forged" in more ways than one...
It's sad when choosing an installation directory on your own qualifies you as an "advanced user."
Why use an axe when you can have a bad-ass sword of legends?
THIS THING CAN TURN ON A DIME, MACROSSZERO STYLE ALSO FUCK BETA, ~NYORON
Give me the handheld rail gun. You'll never get a shot off, and half the time you're looking for ammo.

Well, to nitpick this offtopic thread just a little more...
In Japan, there were three distinct animated incarnations of Kenshin. A TV series which(mostly) covered the original comics storyline. A movie which was set after the TV show, and had an original non-comic based story. Finally, there was a direct to video release that was the back story of the main character.
Things get odd when licensing for the US release comes into play. The three animated incarnations of Kenshin got split up between two(maybe three, but I think it's two) companies. One of the companies involved retitles the portion they have the rights for US release as "Samurai X," the other portions are released under the Rurouni Kenshin moniker.
Should we expect a Hyrulian shield being forged? Or maybe a Mirror Shield? (though the Majora's Mask one was ugly) Maybe a simple Kokiri Shield?
This is from the same person I posted earlier. Again, he commissioned someone to construct the shield.

Alright, you pay 1,800 for a sword and it's not even the best one possible.
Here's what you do. Use some blue body paint on a chicken and start the whole trading process. Walk around asking if anyone will trade you something for your blue chicken, then trade whatever they gave you for something new. Eventually someone will gove you a broken sword. Stop right there for a minute.
If you're having trouble with this so far, go to a flea market or a swap meet. Someone will give you something for a blue chicken.
Anyway, now that you have a broken sword, take it to a very very big blacksmith with bad eyes. He will help you only if you can cure his condition. For this, we need the assistance of a fat, fishy smelling, naturopathic optometrist.
This doctor will insist that the blacksmith needs eyedrops made from frogs, so get an "eyeball frog" from him and take it to the pharmacy. Since this guy is also a well respected fishmonger, you may also want to pick up some salmon steaks for dinner but don't waste too much time as the frog has an extremely low shelf life.
After the pharmacy mixes up the frog eyedrops compound, hurry over to your gigantic blacksmith and give him the medicine. Remember, time is of the essence as the drops (and your dinner) will spoil. They will (miraculously) work and allow him to see. Ask that he immediately begin work on your sword as thanks.
Forging the sword will take 3 days as opposed to the one and a half months for the Master sword. It also may be cheaper depending on how much your out-of-network optometrist charges you. One more thing, you won't be able to wield a shield while using this sword, but I don't think that should be a problem. Enjoy.
None of you guys have brought up getting the Sword of Omens made.
Of cource you'd have to get 2 of them made, the Dagger version and the full long blade version (I don't consider the second stage thing a real blade because it's never used)
Whihc also begs the question which would win in a fight.
The Master Sword Lv.3 vs the Sword of Omens.
IANAMetallurgist, but I'd pay serious money for a life-size Soul Reaver. There's plenty of reference pictures to go off, maybe Crystal Dynamics would be kind enough to provide the 3D model from LoK:Defiance... I'm going to see if I can make this happen.
... Vae Victus .... ohhh yeahhhh...
Anybody who could help me part from my money is welcome to contact me. Particularly if you're a blacksmith.

People collect what people like. I won't tell you what not to collect, but I will ask you to consider some words of advice from someone who has been ther.
w 205.htm
1) Forget Movie/anime/game/etc... swords.
They neve retain any value, everybody who wants one will have one, and it will hane no real story with it; except "uhh, it's like the sword from blade." or whereever.
2) Look at swords that have been around a while, get some history. example:
http://www.liongate-armsandarmour.com/e
this sword is an 18th Century English Smallsword. From when people actual wore the things. When one of your friends says: "hey look I got a 'ninja' Sword"(no such thing), ypou can say "I have a smallsord that somebody actually wore, and prebablt defended himself with it."
plus it will go up in valuse and it's cheaper then the master sword.
3) If you do go for a sword out of a piece of fiction, be sure it is well made. Most swords you buy are stamped and really flimsy.
4) If you just need swords, and don't care about quality or value, then check out the knife show on cable. sometime you can get 10 swords for 200 bucks.
5) my most important piec of advice. Everyone is trying to screw you over in the sword business. If you get something you need apraised, go to many appraiser and research it your self. Many of people have thought they got a great deal when they resold there blade for 1000 buck, only to find out it was worth many times that at auction. and visa versa.

loser.
Seriously thoug, for a custom sword, thats not too bad. I mean you have to do the intitial design and molds. etc/ And they are pretty tought to make.
I know a place that will charge you just to look at your design.
15000 for a custom sword. In this case when I say custome, I mean your design, anf the your measered, and it fits YOU.

you got skunkpussy, who the hell is going to do anything with that!?!

I was one of the other people who recieved the email about the price and limited run of swords, and the price he stated was actually 1100 pounds, not euros.
So a lot more expensive. Still cool though.
There were actually four Kenshin anime releases. The original series (95 eps IIRC), a 4-episode OVA that takes place in Japan during the Revolution, a 2-episode OVA that takes place after the TV series, and a movie that takes place after the series.
There was also a boxed set of CDs containing the soundtracks and themes.
Anyway, Rurouni Kenshin is the name of the series except for the mangled version originally released in the US. Maybe not intentionally mangled in the same way that Sailor Moon or Cardcaptora Sakura were supposed to be, just bad translations and voice acting.
