Re:Uhhhh
But the guy was on a cruise BOAT.
I think it was more likely the failboat. -
Re:USA Tag?
Do we really need a damn USA tag? Seriously, this is a US-centric site, so naturally more stories are going to come from the US. I don't see any EU, UK, AU, etc tags.
That's ok - I submitted a story about the ongoing CSIRO vs American Companies story here about companies that are violating patents of Australian organisations without paying royalties (yes, it is patented in the US), and the article gets rejected. I can guarantee that if this was the other way around, it'd be front page news! But I guess it's ok to do this - you know, as it's by an American company vs someone overseas.
If you want to read about it, a copy of my submission is here. -
Re:A screen grab?
Apple routinely deletes posts discussing known defects; it's very well known among Apple-using techies. Apple has done it in almost every case where there have been hardware defects of any kind.
Bloody oath they do. Apple have been denying a problem with SuperDrives for well over a year...

Re:Specs and Prices (US and UK)
Apple drives are slow unless you buy their media. Who knows how long their burner scams will continue.

Re:No surprise.
At least he gets a reply from Apple!
I just get told to get bent when I'm reporting a fault with my equipment. I'd be happy to get Apple to fix my SuperDrives.
Telling people with faulty equipment to get bent? Evil? Check on both accounts. -
Re:I respect Apple...
Not every company will (without hesitation) own up to its mistakes and be generous enough to offer repairs.
So then why am I still waiting 12 months later for them to fix my damn superdrive? -
Re:Customers Service at Apple is awful!
I had the same problem. I have never had a properly working Superdrive in either my mac mini or g4 powerbook. For around 3 months, every time I called Apple to try and lodge an issue on it I kept getting sent articles on how to burn CDs.
The problem isn't that I don't know how to burn CDs, but more to the fact that the damn drive firmware is screwed.
I got so frustrated at trying to get onto someone with a clue at Apple that I started up http://superdrive.crc.id.au/ with a hope that SOMEBODY has a clue within Apple.
Long story short, my warranty is about to expire and I'm yet to have this problem resolved - a whole 12 months later. I don't call this excellent customer service. I call it a half-baked product that has had it's faults ignored hoping that they go away. -
Re:Best customer service
Best customer service? Tell that to my 11 month old unresolved Apple TAC case...

Re:Details
This is all nice about upgrading the PowerBook specs, but have they fixed the problems with the damn SuperDrives!

Re:Yup, got one here - DVDR still borked?
What I would love to know is if the DVD drive is still crap. If it's a UJ-835, then it's not really an upgrade. See http://superdrive.crc.id.au/ for more info, and please let me know what you find!
