Re:Wrong about advertising
I agree with you on all points except the accuracy of filtering systems.
I use pithhelmet on safari to filter ads, and i find few if any that get by. Not only that, but it runs a javascript routine to adjust the layout so that you don't even know that they were there. This, combined with Safari's popup blocker mean that I see almost no advertisments online, EVER.
I use a baysian email filter on all my computers, and would estimate that they filter close to 90% of spam with essentially no false positives.
From where I stand, ad and spam filters work fine for me. -
Re:Don't forget PithHelmet..
The official release of PithHelmet now supports Safari 1.2... Download here. If you like the software, please donate to him.

Don't forget PithHelmet..
The best utility for Safari.. Content Filtering.
PithHelmet really is a necessary tool, for Anyone who wants to filter content, not just advertisements, but cookies, and everything.
Version Tracker comments reveal that it does work on 1.2, but not out of the box. Just change the MaxVersion in the pList.
Crimped from the comments there-
If you use PithHelmet and have updated to Safari 1.2 you'll notice it doesnt work. Here is the fix that should work until PH gets a proper update.
open /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/
Right click (control+click) PithHelmet.bundle and select "show package contents"
Open the info.plist file in either BBEdit or Property List Editor if you have the dev tools installed
Find where it says MaxSafariBundleVersion and change the value to 125
Save and restart safari. thats it, now it works.
If you need to install 0.7.2 fresh on a box with Safari 1.2 already on it, you'll need to do the following:
1. Download and open the PithHelmet folder
2. Navigate to the Packages subfolder
3. Right-click (ctrl-click yadda yadda) the PithHelmet.pkg file and select "Show Package Contents"
4. Navigate into the Contents/Resources subfolder
5. Open the file InstallationCheck in a text editor (I used TextEdit)
6. Chage the string 100 in the line:
exit((1 6) | (1 5) | 16) if ($1 != 100);
to 125 and save the file.
7. Install as usual by running the regular PithHelmet.mpkg package

Re:Image loading -- Safari vs IE
Yes, Safari should provide these features. In the mean time you should check out PithHelmet. PithHelmet provides just the kind of image filtering you are looking for, and is seamlessly integrated into Safari.

Re:Why would I want to use this???
1) You can do this with all the Mozilla flavors. Set "limit lifetime of cookies to current session" in the Privacy-Cookies section of the preferences. I go one step futher and limit cookies to originating sites only.
2) You can add this to Safari for Free via PithHelmet.
3) I don't know about this one because I don't use it. ;) -
Re:Omniweb's Unique Features
For those interested, a link to PithHelmet.

Updated. Re:Beware if you use PithHelmet
PithHelmet rocks. Note on web site that there is a new version for Safari 1.0. To install the bundle, look where you installed the SIMBL folder (for me, ~/Library/InputManagers) before and replace the PithHelmet bundle by hand with the new updated one. Works fine so far.

Re:Beware if you use PithHelmet
PithHelmet is updated for Safari 1.0, you just need to replace ~/Library/InputManagers/SIMBL/Plugins/PithHelmet.
b undle with this file. Bye bye ads! -
Beware if you use PithHelmet
A warning to those of you using PithHelmet to block images. Remove it! It stopped the new version from launching and I couldn't even use my old version after I upgraded.
If you have PithHelmet installed go to : <harddrive>:Library:InputManagers:SIMBL and get rid of it. Or don't upgrade.
Too bad I don't have image blocking anymore. -
Re:Anything on Safari 1.0?
Image blocking? You want PithHelmet.
