Indiana Jones 4: The Calgary Sun talked with Steven Spielberg's producing partner Kathleen Kennedy who had some disheartening news for those eager to see a fourth Indy film: "The truth is there has been a lot of discussion amongst all of us connected with the film but to be honest there is no script because there isn't even a writer in place. It sounds like a slam dunk to do another Indiana Jones but you have to get everyone available and committed and then you have to get a screenplay that excites everyone. In reality that could probably take years". -
Rumor about upcoming rerelease...
Tid-bit about "the pictures and sounds having been digitally enhanced."

sheeshYeah, this'll work Apple. I hope you've instilled alot of confidence in your employees. I hate to break it to you, a close-minded as you are, but people will gossip regardless.
Let's think about it. Nothing (to most people) is more interesting than gossip. Knowing other people's business is just plain fun to most, myself included. So I'm nosy. I love to read rumors (film myself, Ain't It Cool News and Dark Horizons just rule) and I like to gossip about them. Wonder if this is true or if that is a fake.
The most important thing that gossip generates is PUBLICITY. When people begin to talk about your rumored products, whether they be true or not, they still are talking about YOUR company. Why else would the film industry suddenly be escorting the webmasters of those aforementioned film rumor sites to very advanced preview screenings? (This super early review of How The Grinch Stole Christmas comes to mind.)
You should not condemn those who gossip. With gossip comes truth AND lies, but whats important is the talk, not the substance. Didn't someone once say that there is no such thing as bad publicity?
Are you listening Apple?

old news + reviewsFirst of all, the first reviews were from test screenings. Second, the press screenings had a very large amount of reviews from them. I read Aint-It-Cool-News or Dark Horizons (an Aussie site). The Dark Horizons review has been listed, but here is my favorite reviewer, Harry from AICN's review. Whats best about it is that he gives examples about how the fanboys will NOT be letdown by lame plot points or weak characters (Superman anybody?). This movie is truly solid from what I've heard, and will only leave the rest of us wanting more.
I for one am hoping for the best. Brian Singer is a great director (give it up, The Usual Suspects fuckin RULED) and given that his budget was cut in HALF and his due date for the film pushed back from December to Friday, I'm really amazed at the good reviews for such a rushed project. The Danger Room as well as Beast and Angel had to be left behind, but that's what sequels are for, right?

Old Story... See AICN or Dark Horizons
Like many things that show up on Slashdot, this one is an old story (not that being old news is intrinsically bad - old news is still a good starting point for discussion).
This first showed up as a rumor while Kubrick was still alive - shortly after the ShoWest teaser for Eyes Wide Shut appeared (this was one featuring a single shot of Kidman, topless, with three words successively covering up the "naughty bits" - Cruise, Kidman, Kubrick, then the title Eyes Wide Shut0). At that time, it was to have been a collaboration. There was even a young actor named who'd been booked for summers for many many years. The stock for AI on the Hollywood Stock Exchange doubled that day (it had been doing well because of Kubrick's name, then slumped when Eyes Wide Shut was announced).
People that play HSX find many rumor sites to get info on upcoming movies (HSX is a play stock exchange speculating on the success of upcoming movies - usually gets opening box office take right within a million). Perhaps the two most well-known are the following:
- Ain't It Cool News (reference to John Travolta in Broken Arrow). This site is widely credited with single-handedly ruining the box office of Batman and Robin. The guy that runs the site used to be loathed by Hollywood - now they invite him to screenings and studio visits.
- Dark Horizons. A little slow sometimes (loading the page, not speed of rumor - either DH or AICN is equally likely to get a scoop on a rumor), being in Australia, but a good site.
Enjoy.

Re:I have to ask...There are already some great suggestions here. The triad of Coming Attractions, Ain't It Cool News and Dark Horizons will keep you up to date on everything and anything film-based. (Gotta be excited by that upcoming Lord of the Rings trilogy, huh?)
I'd also throw in Film Threat for independent movies, with a caveat. These guys are, as a rule, downright hostile to anything with actual financial support. But you will learn about some excellent stuff!

Re:I have to ask...Coming Attractions and Dark Horizons are my two fave movie news sites right now. They cover everything from indies to big Hollywood productions, so you'll have to do some sifting to get to the good stuff... but it's worth it. Dark Horizons is sort of a daily rumor sheet, while Coming Attractions has huge archives of rumors and whisperings-- if you're looking for info on a specific movie, CA is definitely the place to look.
Speaking of Pi... was anyone else really messed up for a few days after seeing that, or was it just me? =^)
