Re:RTS vs RPG
There IS an RTS: http://www.dawnofwargame.com/. It's quite good, too.

Re:So 12 y/o kids should get playboy?Well, let's check this on the Web. First, I'll go to the Website of Saw 2:
Saw 2 Website
Well, it isn't asking me for my age, interesting. I can view the trailers, the animated comic, etcetera....
Now, I'll go to the Website of Dawn of War a RTS I'm fond of:
Dawn of War Website
Hmm, look, the first thing it asks me for it my age. Of course, if I were 12, I'd just make up an age to get in, but it looks like it is trying to get me to identify my age, that's the main thing.
So, the Website for a movie about a psychotic serial killer with the tagline "Oh yes, there will be blood..." no age restrion. The Website for Dawn of War slightly humorous RTS about the Warhammer 40K universe, you have to know how to select an old enough age on a drop down box.
Which would I rather have my 10 year old accessing? No contest, Dawn of War, she might get nightmares from Saw 2. Not that I think either is going to turn her into a violent serial killer.

Dawn of War: Winter Assault
It's been a slow year for Real-Time Strategy, but after some time working with Dragonshard it began to grow on me.
Well, I don't know about that, as the RTS I've been looking forward to for a long time, the expansion to Dawn of War, Dawn of War: Winter Assault just came out. It's gotten generally good reviews, and I think the addition of the Imperial Guard and a more complex single player game makes it a worthwhile purchase.Demo Available here: New Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War Winter Assault demo
I may pick up Dragonshard eventually too... but I imagine that with the little time I have available for Game Playing I'll have my hands full with Winter Assault.

Dawn of War
Dawn of War, an RTS game without resource harvesting as you know it, uses Lua too.

Re:It's true--and they know about it
That's probably why Dawn of War, which has as a minimum requirement a 1.4GHz Intel or AMD processor, runs just fine on my 1.0GHz Pentium III...

Re:CS Source
While you wait to see how major publishers will jerk you around next, games for linux keep getting better and better!
Perhaps, but going from Doom 1 to Doom 2 quality hardly counts for much in the days where you can buy Doom 3.
Major titles keep getting better and better, too.
