LJ is not the emo site you thinking of
Being a frequent livejournal user, I can tell you all with confidence that LJ has a very small population of emos. Why the hell would any emo make a livejournal when they could make a deadjournal or a Xanga?
-
Well...I'm really not surprised. The LJ engine has been extremely vulnerable and these 0days are just more proof that corporate entities don't pay attention to security the way they should. The engine is written in PERL and needs a base of extensive javascript.
Its a good thing that only a few sites run the LJ engine. They tend to be rather short-lived because of LJ's vulnerability. One of the others running the LS Engine is DeadEngine, a journal for gothic, emo kids (http://www.deadjournal.com/).

counter-examples
What a bunch of condescending BS. All the article says is that "Men can't develop software for women because they're not women. Therefore they should just replicate already popular software for women, for example, by placing trivia games in WoW."
Men can develop software for women, even without predecessors to replicate. These aren't games, but: Livejournal, deadjournal, and myspace were started by Brad, Frank, and Tom, yet their user-bases dramatically skew toward females.
You don't have to be a female to make software for them. -
Re:You want to know what the ego trip is?
If he had worked with the SeaMonkey team to begin with to change buttons and such, we could both have our way
If..Could.. Not good enough. If you're annoyed by this percieved ego trip, I hope Seamonkey gives you what you want. I would not have Seamonkey discontinued myself, either. More Gecko-based browsers = potentially less cross-browser coding nightmares; if someone uses Firefox or Seamonkey, then they may not be using IE/Win, IE/Mac, or Opera. (nothing personal against Opera).
However am I seriously to believe, for one second, the Mozilla Project would have condescended to take this feedback, had it been offered in a way that would please the likes of you more?
Not sure why I wasn't around to give it a hug, or as you say, jump up and down about usability, but I can't help but think that Mozilla had a good run, At The Time.
Pedants can chip in here, but after the ghastly NS4 release and the various organisational restructuring that ensued, Mozilla was _the_ leet project, in fact I seem to remember back then they were using the Seamonkey word. Except the code was so awful that they had to skip version 5, and when version 6 came out, it offered little that was different, as far as the interface goes, to NS4. The interface is at least as important as the browser working properly and as you rightly point out, nasty remote exploits ideally belong nowhere in any of the Foundation's releases.
So, software engineers and the like will have some warm fuzzy memories about all of those Mozilla releases, and the political significance of what that meant - the re-birth of something shoddy and proprietary (NS4) into something open-source. But there were people like me 'jumping up and down about usability' back then. They weren't listened to, they were dismissed and explained away. I can't help but feel that I as a user am profiting from this ego trip, in the form of a new default browser which pleases me more than IE.
I seriously would love to see someone telling the end-users that Firefox is evil because the lead developer went on an ego trip, and that instead, they should use this, ahem, rather fully-featured alternative called Mozilla (but it's going to be Seamonkey soon..), and that whether they like Firefox or not, really clever people won't be using it because really clever people don't think the ends justified the means. -
Missing opportunities
Apparently someone "accidentally" pushed the emergency power off
They had to power back on when they realized deadjournal.com was already taken... -
Re:i don't get it

Re:Where will all the Goth and Gamer Girlzzz go?
They are all over at http://www.deadjournal.com/.

Live journal not Available?
you can always talk to the guys over at http://www.deadjournal.com/ and see if they want to get bought out.

Why LJ?
Even if something does happen, there's always other LJ variants out there, such as DeadJournal and GreatestJournal if your privacy is concerned.
And as hypothesis #2 states the removal of some features, the other variants will almost always have them.
Livejournal isn't the only journal site out there. -
Re:That's almost as good as this guy
Eh, don't let that scare you. Out in the goth parts we've got our own scary "conservative" that said roughly the same thing recently.
Believe it or not, this wacko is also publishing a book.
So don't sweat it, there's a lot of weirdos out there, I think the REAL majority of Americans understand this was a close election and compromises will still have to be made by both parties.

Announcing a new site for BSD discussions
I ran across a really interesting BSD discussion site the other day. It's a lot better than the Slashdot BSD section, which as you all know is too full of trolls to be useful.
The site can be found here. Please take a look and give it a try. -
LiveJournal is much more worthy of note
After all, LiveJournal is completely Open Source. Subscription only gives you added features, but the free version does not even have ad banners. The site is completely funded by subscriptions and donations. A few other sites have spun off thanks to the freely available code, including DeadJournal.

Re:Let's roll...
I disagree. The difference between flight 93 and the other flights is that it was shot down
