Anyone who has had any experience with a Tesla Coil will know that if you hold a flourescent lightbulb near the coil whilst it is discharging, the bulb will light up. The faster your Tesla Coil cycles, the more of an appearence of "on" the bulb will have. It works because the coil emits electromagnetic pulses each time the current makes the jump from anode to cathode.

The pulse ionizes the bulb's internal gases and produces a plasma around the internal filament. The mercury is then ionized and begins to emit UV rays.

This really isn't news. Hell, the article talks about Tesla's efforts, which are about a century old.

Umm... Yea... Basic anatomy, for the win. Artificial pacemakers (hint, artificial in the name implies that they are a copy of some organic component) are simply replication our heart's own pacemaker (the "node"), which send electrical signals telling the heart muscles to contract and so forth.

I should know. I have regular heart palpitations. :(

Sure there are, especially with the advent of internet publishing. Look at two of the hottest online FPS games, Day of Defeat and Counter-strike. Both were originally made by indie mod groups. However, both became so popular that they were bought up by a corporate entity. Look at Dystopia and Empires, two HL2 mods that are walking in the footsteps of DoD and CS. Though I must say that its much easier to make an independent game using a modification tools.

We can't rate hit indie games by their fiscal gross alone. Some of the most popular games out there (Continuum, anyone?) are free.

Since someone thinks this is offtopic, I will post an explanation. Evercrack is a nickname for Everquest due to its addicting nature. We see this behavior in almost all finely made MMORPGS. DAOC, WoW, FFXI, AO, etc. Lord knows I've spent enough of my life on games. It seems we are becoming addicted to gaming. Games are like the next television. Within another decade, I'm sure television and gaming will merge (and I don't mean like the crappy adventure games of old).
