Write your own
The great thing about OSS is that if you don't like the direction a project is taking, you can branch it and write your own. If there are really that many people who want an updated Win9x version of Firefox, then I'm sure someone will maintain a branch (perhaps using the newest security/features but utilizing the older rendering engine). There are people trying to port Firefox to the Commodore Amiga for crying out loud, and I'm sure the Amiga user base is a lot smaller than Win9x.

Re:Um..troll?
Oh, and by the way....
Over $8000 bounty for an Amiga port of Mozilla. And that's just porting existing code to a documented API that can be emulated on standard PC hardware. -
Re:Excellent Stuff! Future Development Model?
So has DiscreetFX, for an Amiga port of Mozilla. $8000 donated as a bounty for a FSCKING AMIGA APP?!?!?

Re:No OS9 port means 60% of mac users stuck with 1
*coughUpgradeAlreadycough* I don't know, AmiZilla seems like a better investment of time...

Re:Any news on AmiZilla?
Props for Eric Schwartz's AmiZilla mascot!

Best Logos Ever, Eric Schwartz
Get Eric Schwartz to do something. his amizilla logo is amazing. A reptile with mammaries!. Who cares. it looks good.
I'm sure he could do something tasteful and mediocre if he needed. -

Re:Any news on AmiZilla?
Dead as a doornail. IIRC it began around the time of Milestone 9 or something, and nothing was ever released in public.
I concur. See the AmiZilla page. -
Not a New idea
This isnt a new concept and i believe its a terrific one. AROS's bounty program has been working for AROS for quite a while.
Its also being used to port Mozilla too Amiga compatible systems. Over 4000 dollars has been raised so far for the person(s) who decide to take it on.
Im sure plent of people are doing this and its working. Look at some of those people. Their puting in 100, 200 dollars. Thats a lot of money considering some major packets of software cost that much and these guys are only paying for a feature that is not specific to them, but a community!
Open Source people are good people! -
Unemployed Mozilla coders? Here's $4,000 for ya..
Sorry to hear about this tragedy, but at least there's a good opportunity for some super-easy, quick cash while in between jobs!
Maybe you laid-off Gecko folks should check out the AmiZilla project, and pitch in to port Mozilla to the much-maligned Commodore Amiga!
As of now, there's a booty of over $4,000 to be earned ... that's probably a small portion of what you were earning at Netscape/AOL per year, but it's enough to keep you alive for a few months, right?
Definitely your expertise could be of benefit to these intrepid folks ... especially if you don't mind being on the bleeding edge with a barely-tested port of gcc 3.3 to the 68k-amigaos architecture!
