Re:Universities~=Corporate america
I've been curious about that statistic (50% divorce rate) and went looking for some more facts. Assuming these statistics are reported correctly:
http://www.divorcemag.com/statistics/statsUS.shtmlPercentage of children under 18 years of age living with both parents (2002): 69%
Percentage of children under 18 years of age living with mother only (2002): 23%
Percentage of children under 18 years of age living with father only (2002): 5%
Percentage of children under 18 years of age living with neither parent (2002): 4%
That doesn't address both parents working of course, or lack or parental concern.

Re:This guy just makes me cringe.
But who's having all those divorces? Certainly it's those heathen liberals. Actually, if you look at the data, it may surprise you.

OK...49%
The rates of various nations are available.
The point is, that these fundamentalist nutters claim the USA to be a "Christian Nation" when they push to have their specific religious rules codified in secular law. This high divorce rate...one divorce for every two marriages in recent years...goes strongly against this claim.
And besides, the Founding Fathers were Deists...not Christians! -
Re:On nuclear families.
Numbers are here
These numbers are from 94/98 and are the latest from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/National Center for Health Statistics. Rate is reflected in the number of divorces per thousand.
Here is a recent article in the Boston globe comparing Mass. to the red states.
And here is an article focusing on the reasons for the high divorce rate in the Bible belt. Spoiler: Red States are under-educated. -
Re:what my party should be?Its not that I disagree with you, not entirely.
I don't see the problem with the marriage definition. Like it or not, the christian institution already fails to meet the requirements of millions of hetrosexuals marriages already (or vice-versa, if you prefer to look at it that way), so you have to ask yourself, what is it really you think you're got to keep away from the homos?
Is it just the word?
Because depriving them of a legal acknowlegement that they can do the job of faithfulness, commitment and/or love to each other as well as a hetro, just seems inane to me.
Food for thought. -
