Nail in the PSP coffin?
The DS is outselling the PSP in Japan, and other than hackability, there seems to be a lack of interest for in in the US (the PSP that is). Will the new wireless router and capabilities will this be the nail in the PSP's coffin? As a gamer, the PSP doesn't impress me...cause of the lack of good games. As a geek though, it's pretty sweet to have that screen for portable MAME. You can get a PSP for free here: http://www.psps4free.com/default.aspx?r=286409 Free DS here: http://www.ds4free.com/default.aspx?r=68137 Nintendo isn't even budging in the handheld market, and looks like they're learning from mistakes in the home console biz. I'm ready for a game revolution.

Re:DS does 10
This is encouraging for me since I hope to be getting a DS for Christmas (Santa are you out there?). I've got a GBA SP and the battery life on that thing is outstanding. I can probably count the number of times I've charged it on one hand. Of course I don't play with it nearly as much as other people, but having good battery life is a must in a portable. If I'm going to fly from New York to California then I don't want to worry about my GameBoy (or DS) running out of life before I get there.

DS does 10
Nintendo claims that the Nintendo DS can last about 10 hours before it needs to be charged. I don't know whether or not this is real-world performance. It'd be interesting to see what the battery life is when doing multiplayer, wireless gaming.

Re:About Kai and the Nintendo DS
I agree with that reasoning and I'd comment more about it if I knew more about the DS' implementation. It probably just wasn't designed to connect to a normal TCP/IP network, let alone an online network.
Also note that games which use an IP stack and connect to the 'net are being developed for the DS as we speak...
This is interesting, do you have any links about these games? That would be pretty cool.

About Kai and the Nintendo DS
A little about XLink Kai:
XLink Kai is a global gaming network - bringing together XBox, Playstation 2 and Gamecube users, in one integrated community. It is software running on your PC or Macintosh that allows you to play system-link enabled games online for free. Kai is the only service that is not console specific, and boasts one of the friendliest communites available.
Apparently they're working on providing tunneling for the Nintendo DS but the DS doesn't conform to 802.11 wireless standards. This may be because Nintendo wants to keep things proprietary or low-power, but they seem to think otherwise:
Finally, I'd just like to say that somebody should really send a PSP unit to whoever designed the WiFi module for the Nintendo DS - it's a very, very nice implementation - and adheres correctly to the recognised standards for wireless networking. I know others may argue that Nintendo uses their non-standard wireless architecture to "save power" - I'd like to officially confirm that as a crock-of-shit - Nintendo use their own "proprietary protocol" - because, it seems, they couldn't be bothered to / ran out if time trying to write a proper IP stack for the DS - so they used some horrible thrown-together frame format, used a very low-range tranceiver, and called it innovative. Anyway - my views on the DS hardware aren't relevant - what is relevant is that Kai will support both of these devices - one now, the other later - once I've finished jumping through all Nintendo's hoops.
This definitely looks like an interesting service and one that I'd like to try out.

Fact Checkers and Rumormongers
As was demonstrated in Dan Rather's Memo flap, bloggers can sometimes be good fact checkers. In that instance people from all over the Internet scoured over what turned out to be fake documents. One person would offer his expertise and another would do the same. Eventually some people were able to contact real experts in the field and get them to verify that the documents were fake. Eventually the mainstream media took notice and the rest is history.
But bloggers are definitely not journalists. At best they offer their opinions on the news of the day, correct factual problems in news that was reported, and they also serve as a rallying point for other like-minded individuals. At worst though, blogs can be full of rumormongoring, hate and just noise. They won't be replacing any journalists any time soon, though their diligence may get one fired every now and then.

Conclusion
Since it wasn't mentioned if you could use the Flash cards with the Nintendo DS, here's the conclusion from the article:
From our tests you can see that most of the GBA Flash Cards can be used on Nintendo DS. If you have bought a backup device for GBA - don't trow away your gameboy as chances are you will have to use it for writing roms - no link port on DS. If you have NDS and want a flash card for GBA, GB Color, SNES, NES roms etc. - look at the Sets with the External Writers!

Not surprising in the least
Why am I not surprised? I played in the open beta, and it was, hands down, the most impressive MMORPG that I've played, ever.
Everything in the game smacked of polish, polish, polish. Making a character was super-easy, pretty, and fun to do. From there, getting into the game is a snap, and your first mission is placed right in front of your face. I barely had time to experience any of the multi-player aspect of the game before the beta was over, because I was so busy doing missions.
As I'm sure you've heard by now, it's hard to feel like you're on a level treadmill in this game. The mission system gives the game the feel of a single-player RPG, and the amount of polish/smoothness that Blizzard put in helps retain that feel, but you can't ignore all of those other players running around killing. Despite the hordes of beta-testers, I never once had to wait for a spawn or do any 'spawn-camping' or anything mind-numbing of that sort.
All in all, a great game, and I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't have any other priorities (job, family, politics, etc), because once you start playing, all of those other not-so-important things in your life (like eating, bathing, and face-to-face socializing) will suddenly not be so important anymore.

Best... MMORPG... Ever!
I participated in the open beta, and I must say, I was quite impressed. I've played EverQuest, but got sick of the grind after making level 30. I was unfortunate enough to play Anarchy Online on launch, what a nightmare that was. But once it got patched to the point of being playable, it was quite fun. However, it never really offered the community aspects that make an MMORPG worthwhile, so I gave that genre a rest.
Then, I decided to see what all the fuss was about with WoW. I downloaded the open beta client (took me only 4 days) and started playing. I was hooked right from the start. Just getting into the game was a snap, it took less than 45 seconds on my Athlon 1.4GHz, compared to several minutes for EQ and AO. Even creating my character was fun and easy to do, and once I got into the game the environments were beautiful, everything ran smooth (on my dated equipment), and the quests were easy to find and fun to complete. Not to mention the fact that grouping and making friends is a breeze. Unfortunately, the open beta ended 5 days after I finished the download, so I only made it to level 8 with my warrior (and that was with playing one hour a day).
I don't think I'll be buying the game, but the only reason for that is my addictive personality. While I never became much of an EQ addict (though I've seen some of my friends become zombie-like creatures who have sacrificed school, jobs, and even marraiges to get that piece of uber-loot), I can definately see myself getting sucked into this game, and that wouldn't be good for me, my studies, my relationship with my fiance, or our baby daughter. Otherwise, I'd probably be up to level 15 by now!
