Since the article mentions Cagliostro...
...I'm going to take this chance to plug the DVDTracks audio commentary I did for Cagliostro, inspired by a Slashdot story about the site. (As well as the journal entry I wrote recently describing how I put it all together.) I did a good enough job with it that a representative from a movie company considering making a live-action Lupin III contacted me and asked if I would serve as a consultant. (I never heard anything back from them afterward, though, and that was a couple of years ago.)

DVDTracks: Also inspired by Ebert
You know, you don't have to do a DVD of your own to put in your own commentaries on films. The guy's site mentions he was inspired by Ebert's Dark City track--well, another idea Ebert had, and one that's even been covered by Slashdot in the distant past though I lack the time to dig up the URL for the story, is DVDTracks, a site that hosts do-it-yourself commentaries recorded as MP3s, meant to be downloaded and played simultaneously with the DVDs. I've even done one myself, for the Miyazaki movie Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro , and it was great fun.
There's a lot of other great stuff there, too. Check it out. -

Re:Castle of Cagliostro is great!
And after you watch Cagliostro, I suggest you download and listen to the commentary.

Re:I hope it is better that the Totoro release
A non-Disney company has done a good job with a Miyazaki film--that being Manga Video, and their subbed and dubbed DVD of Castle of Cagliostro. Sure they didn't do anything with the original mono sound, it wasn't anamorphic, and there were no extras to speak of...but the subtitles were good and the dub was decent.
(And I've tried to help make up for the extras it didn't have by recording my own DVDTracks mp3 commentary for it. :)
I really didn't expect much good out of the Totoro DVD. It was just a hasty pump-and-dump of the one Miyazaki movie they had onto DVD just as they had it in order to capitalize...just like all those generic animated fairy tale tapes that come out right at the same time as a Disney movie. Even Fox's laserdisc of it way back when was pan and scan...clearly, that's all they had to work with. On the bright side, at least the price is low... -
Re:"Fan comments" subtitles sound great!
Also, enter DVD Tracks.

Poor, poor Patrick....
I don't personally know whom the site proprietor, Patrick, is or anything, but for his little site's sake I really hope that this article is either regarded as disinteresting by the masses of
/. or that his ISP is in for one hell of a shock...
While this IS certainly an interesting idea and possibly even worth an article on Slashdot, his content is a bit thin and I have his usual site traffic is basicly not existant....until NOW that is!!!
So anyways...Pat, if you are reading this...good luck and I hope you are being charged for bandwidth by the Mb!!! Of course, you could always take a page from this guy and ask that the Slashdot community reimburse you...
