Re:Missing... The... Point!
We're already seeing Flash drives that are bottlenecked on SATA bus speed limits. Why do you think things like the Fusion-IO IODrive exist?
Review of the Fusion-IO IODrive 80GB Solid State Drive (SSD)

Not so fast there
"Intel's X25-E Extreme SSD is easily the fastest flash drive on the market,
Actually, according to pretty much every review I can find, FusionIO's IoDrive spanks the pants off of the Intel Extreme, even in raid-0 eight drive combinations. It can saturate PCIe x4.
It'd be great if citations were required for broad claims like this.

Finding MTRON drives
I don't know why you were unable to find MTRONs at DV Nation for a much better price! (I don't work for DV Nation, but I am a happy customer.) They come right up when I do a search.
Maybe you're leaning on Google product search a bit too much...

Re:1 essential fact missing
A small google shows that current generation of 32 GB ssd cost about $599-$1500 (depending on speed)
the new version has double the capacity, do the math yourself. -

Re:Yeah, this is great, but....
Here's the best place I know of for SSDs:
http://dvnation.com/nand-flash-ssd.html
$500 for 32 GB, $400 for 16 - might be worth it to you. Prices are dropping every couple of months, so good to keep an eye on at least. -
obvious problem
My notebook only has room for *one* drive onboard. I'm not going to replace a 80gb hardrive for a 4gb ssd (which currently cost $465 (see http://www.dvnation.com/nand-flash-ssd.html/). So the hybrid is the way to go
... but what I'd like to see is a hybrid that just shows up as two drives under non-vista operating systems. Then the boot stuff could go on the small flash drive and everything else on the old fashioned (big) hard drive. -
Re:Seek Time & Reduced Heat
Regarding your link to the 32GB SSD (and I haven't read all the responses) that company is very misleading! That is not an SSD! It is an HDD. Just copy and past that part number in to Google or Froogle and you will see that it is simply a hard drive. Maybe you just published this without doing any research. The cheapest 16GB SSD MSRP is about $603. You can find it here, http://www.dvnation.com/ssd.html

You're Right, I'm an Idiot
Yeah, that was a quick google search for 32GB SSD and that was the only returned link.
After doing more thorough researching, I found expensive 32GB SSDs but also 16GB SSDs at around $600 here & here. I know that size is not always directly related to price but I guess the release of this laptop with 32GB means they've found cheaper ways to produce the 32GB versions.
The $3k price tag is probably pretty reasonable considering that two drives equating to the same size would run around $1,200. Heck, after thinking about the number of writes to the disk they're good for, it might benefit you to have your OS and apps on a drive apart from your userspace drive (a la Unix security layout).
Again, I apologize for not researching my link in the original post and for wasting your time. I only hope the discussion isn't waylayed by people pointing out my ignorance. -
