Re: Duh. (bad science all around)
He is not a published scientist of any repute. There, I think I covered the facts of your response. He is a medical doctor. But there are lots of those, right? What he does well is encourage people to read the research, and to become critical thinkers.
Your post reeks of some vendetta against him. If I had to put money on it, I would guess you are a vegetarian/vegan.
Fine, you don't like him there are other doctors and researchers out there who are researching the same things, and he references them in what he publishes and talks about. You probably already know that, but only want to stick to your ideology instead of looking at the science behind it.
If your doctor wants you on a statin, it's time to start eating healthier because you have atherosclerosis.
WOW. This is exactly what is wrong. Doctors prescribe statins because someone has high cholesterol, not atherosclerosis! And they only do that because they think that "high cholesterol is bad". I know what you are thinking - there is "good and bad" cholesterol... which is grossly over-simplified. That is precisely the shallow-minded unquestioning thinking that causes unhealthy FADS like low-fat diets to take root and prosper. And mis-information that statins are to treat atherosclerosis. Yet with one of the most prescribed drugs ever in statins, heart disease is still on the rise.
The causes of atherosclerosis are not definitively known. Seriously, look it up. Here are some key words for you though - oxidation and inflammation.
I know it's Attia's site, but read the content... it's a 10 part series that delves in to cholesterol and atherosclerosis... Jump to Part 10 that summarizes things very well. Sorry if there are big sciency words. Read back through all 10 posts. It is a few years old, but it's pretty clear this guy is not a marketing shill. -

Re:Not the fault of science
I suggest the multipart (fully cited) writeup on Eating Academy. Dr. Attia is a physician with degrees in aeronautical engineering and applied math, so his style communicates well to our demographic:
http://eatingacademy.com/nutri...The larger point is that this corroborates the main issue in this topic: that for years the "science" advocated for improper (sometimes harmful) "optimizations" for health. The ignominious list of failures is quite long.
What I have learned in biochemistry is that one should always ask for explicit evidence and never presume... the LDL line of reasoning was "so obvious" to the scientists that they never bothered testing their assumptions ("Plaques in blood vessels have cholesterol, blood has cholesterol and some of it is from food. Therefore, high cholesterol foods cause plaques! Let's ignore the fact that half of patients presenting with CHD have normal LDL-c levels. We *know* it's the LDL-c that's the risk factor!" Fail.)
"Oops, confounders."

Re:Control the carbs and you control blood lipids
Great! You want to read even more detailed explanations for why this is the case. Most people tl;dr when presented with technical details, so the anecdotal links tend to work better.
Here's one post by Dr. Peter Attia, an MD with an engineering/applied math background. Thanks to that, he is very good at explaining biochemistry concepts to the stereotypical Slashdotter.

(I suggest also reading the three part ketosis series he published as well if you're unfamiliar with the biochemistry of nutritional ketosis)
Once you have read that, if have specific objections I'll be happy to discuss further.

Re:Is there anything stem cells *cannot* do?
Absolutely false. Sorry, your info is old & anecdotes are not quite where you need them to be in light of decades of recent research. Ketogenic diet aka Nutritional Ketosis sustains the human body on ketone bodies derived from beta hydroxy buyerate. Low carb diets push the body toward using less carbs/glucose for fuel and more fats/ketone for fuel. Very Low Carb diets can be called ketogenic because they make us run on fat. There are super marathoners who are running 50+ miles in a ketogenic state and not bonking or hitting the wall, when instead they are using the body's fat stores for energy. Start at EatingAcademy.com for the basics. Is ketosis dangerous? Google up ketogenic ultramarathoner for proof.

Re:You know what they call alternative medicine...
Ketoacidosis isn't a concern for anyone who can produce insulin.
