Re:Lets be fair....
Even the styling of their signature products has been directly copied from other company's work from the 70s.
....they copied Sony http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2012/07/27/apple-prototypes-show-iphone-inspired-by-sony-and-kickstand-ipad/index.html
Bwahhahaha. That's a good one. Reality check: no iPhone looked like any Sony product ever. The near final design for the first iPhone predates the Jony phone by quite some time - which is actually the result of an article about Sony's latest Walkman whose design was inspired by Apple design according to it's designer.
What next, "the iPad is a copy of that thing in 2001"?

Re:Cheap?
Wow what a lying megalomaniacal jerk. Kin sold atleast 8000 phones. http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/07/08/microsoft-kin-real-sales-figures-revealed-still-embarrassing/
So you were just spreading FUD. I don't think the Microsoft marketing department even needs to care about you. You're just a pathetic little jerk who gets off spreading FUD on already inbred sites like Slashdot and writing lame comments which atmost a 100 people read and will make zero difference to sales.
The reason that your posts make the front page is that no one even cares for or has time to read about Slashdot enough anymore to submit stories, so your lame selection and FUD summaries are the only ones since you're a big loser who has lots of time on his hands.Extreme risks? HAHAHAHHAHHAHA. Haven't had such a laugh in a long time. Do you also believe the illuminati is going to get you? Haven't seen such a pathetic self-important person, really. If you really think Microsoft marketing guys are replying as ACs to you on Slashdot, I recommend a good psychiatrist. I'll even help pay for one, since it's sad to see someone who seems to be an otherwise smart person succumb to delusions.

Re:Good tablets - yes
Advent Vega vs Galaxy Tab
£250 vs what WAS about £600, currently around £400 since the new version is in the works. -
BBC Licensing
Does anybody know if streaming BBC news in this manner requires you to have a license fee?
I think the position, at least on the BBC's own site, is that while you can play pre-recorded shows without one, a license is required to stream BBC programs live which was clarified with the release of smartphone apps. -
Re:BBC, here is idea how to make money
(The BBC already sells a lot of content, such as the various BBC channels in international markets, the DVDs, etc. And they're not deleting H2G2, as the summary explains.)

Re:Who is Nokia again?
"""Uhm, better hardware?
.. Beyond that, devices are more than just their spec sheet, it's the whole user experience and ecosystem."""Contradiction much?
"""the 12 Megapixel camera, which is pointless because the lens on cel phone cameras suck. All that 12 megapixel camera's doing is just providing the same grainy photographs but using more space. When you publish these images to the web, it gets downsampled anyway."""
Yeah about that lens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtIFBMbiaPo&feature=player_embedded
Yeah about that camera: http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/07/08/nokia-n8-camera-2260-days-in-the-making-part-12/ and http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/07/09/nokia-n8-camera-2260-days-in-the-making-part-22/HDR? that you've never mentioned until Apple added it recently? http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/07/27/nokia-n900-fcam-hdr-and-low-light-examples/ (that's before the iphone added it, and will come to N8). Other nice things in the N8 (and its S^3 siblings) are automatic panorama: http://dailymobile.se/2010/09/21/nokia-n8-panorama-photo/
Resolution? N8 is 210ppi, nothing wrong with that. And certainly never was an issue for iphone fans until the iphone 4 (up until then they had 163ppi).
"""You think it's a good idea for a phone to be always connected to some server to be told how hot or cold it is outside? You don't see how this could say, impact the battery?"""
Widgets know when the screen is on, when the network is up, and which screen you are looking it. They do not update otherwise. Oh, and you can see if you missed a call without having to unlock your phone. Battery life is very good on the N8, even when using widgets: http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/09/23/nokia-n8-live-photography-live-qa-join-in-now/ as told by an iphone 4 user.
Now obviously you're just a troll, but I hope some might find these links useful.

Re:Who is Nokia again?
Come on, slashdot used to be smarter than this. Last year iOS was going to be biggest, this year Android is going to be biggest, etc. See also: http://xkcd.com/605/
It has lost market share, but gained users (market has grown). This is without Nokia releasing any proper high end phones during that time. And who cares whether S-E/Samsung uses Symbian, their share was non-existent to begin with.
The 4 announced S^3 devices, and the unnannounced AT&T phone, will sell, and they will sell a lot. Did you have a chance to play with them? I mean for yourself, in your hand. It's easy to make a phone look bad on video. This is a nice review where the reviewer, an iphone4 owner, does not feel insecure about that and thus does not feel the need to go out of his way to bash it just because it is Nokia/not an iPhone: http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/09/23/nokia-n8-live-photography-live-qa-join-in-now/
Like he said.. "This is not your daddy's Nokia".

Does that look like it's going anywhere? And this is based on S60, which I hate myself. S^3 is worlds above that. Imagine what it is going to do with that, and with Qt, WRT, flash, and java apps, and a nice SDK.iOS share will stabilize in its niche, Android will battle with WP7 (and people stop saying Windows Mobile, it's not the same thing all), Symbian will increase. Android is not going to take over the world, sorry. If HTC/Samsung for even one second think WP7 will bring them more, (and in terms of maintenance it is a lot easier for them, look at phones still being on Android 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, etc) they'll drop Android like a hot potato. No, Android also will not die, but it's not going to be the king either.

Re:It's going to suck.
how the hell do they think they can do it in less than 25%?
It's being overseen, designed, and manufactured in India. All of the benefits of outsourcing with none of the overhead.
Joking aside, a $35 tablet would probably hit $100 on a real market, after company and retailer profit. Further, being a government with educational institute ties the development cost is entirely eaten, and not reflected in the price. Add in real packaging and materials and a marketing campaign, and you might actually be pretty close to a $150 retail mark.
If you look at the photos, it's a color screen. 2 GB of memory isn't going to blow anyone away, but that's comparable to the OLPC I have sitting here. The processor probably won't either, but this is Linux we're talking about. If you can't scale a Linux install to run well on slow hardware, you don't deserve to be manufacturing millions of units that everybody's going to surf on.
As a side note, the biggest electronics makers can't throw together a desktop computer that's better than one we assemble ourselves off the shelf. They're notoriously bad at making alterations to operating systems. And their goal is not to drive prices down, but to find reasons to keep prices high. Why would they even attempt to release a $35 tablet?

Re:Tablet implies a touchable screen...
ok sorry. Posted too early. 2GB solid state disk with 32 GB addon. 2 watts power consumption. Solar panel addon (price not included in base cost). & inch touch screen. Got this from http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/07/23/23-tablet-pc-unveiled-in-india/

Re:Symbian
Mozilla has already stated that a BlackBerry port won't happen or if it does, it's at the bottom of the priority list. The BB OS isn't powerful enough to handle it, apparently. http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2009/11/09/mozilla-rules-out-firefox-for-iphone-and-blackberry/

Re:Yay!
And, of course, there is a industry-wide, agreed upon standard for the 3D encoding and formats, right? Right??
It is a work in progress. SMPTE has already defined the requirements, and is working on actual specifications. Sony likes to be proprietary when they can, but I doubt they would ignore a SMPTE standard. They aren't the only manufacturer that's been talking up 3D in 2010.
