    One thing I've found is that AJAX can be a very nice way to easily deliver random content to a user. Witness this:

    The iPod bartender shuffle.

    Choose your categories, and the notes are loaded seemlessly, and displayed onscreen. Then you can download a zip file.

    (Oh, and I do agree with the goofiness of this terminology. Flash remoting? Invisible iframes? Anyone remember these? Bueller?)

    Infact, you can deuglify slashdot by using a script to replace the subdomain in the url.

    I've found that the slashdot defuglifier (http://www.electricstate.com/articles/defuglify-s lashdot) works wonders for my enjoyment of the IT and Games section (that blue annoys me for some reason)

    2. Click "Preferences" on the left side, if you're logged in.
    3. Click "Homepage" at the top.
    4. Scroll down to "Exclude Stories from the Homepage".
    5. Under the "Authors" header, check "Hemos"
    6. Save settings, enjoy Slashdot a little bit more.

    On my work monitor, the gamma is so bad that reading the IT color scheme is really straining. Games.slashdot.org doesn't do it...but IT sure does.

    So with that in mind, because what else is there to do on a Saturday morning...I made a javascript bookmark that will replace whatever URL you're viewing in Slashdot with the default color scheme.

    Obviously, it won't work when you're browsing the top-level category pages of a particular section, but once you're in the articles, it should work at any level.
