Whole House Surge Protector is not enough
Many thinks erroneously that after they installed a Whole House Surge Protector everything else would be fine
That Whole House Surge Protector might be able to clamp a sudden surge from the outside, but the respond time often isn't fast enough to save the delicate electronic devices connected to the wall sockets
What you really need is a layered approach --- getting a Whole House Surge Protector to clamp a _lengthy_ surge from the outside, while still attach your delicate electronic devices to surge protectors with fast response (something like in the nano-second range) that plug into the wall sockets
Three links that might be able to assist you:

Re:Death of broadcasting?
BTW here's the antenna I use. Nothing big or bulky. In fact it fits inside my apartment behind my TV and receives stations 60 miles away: http://www.electronichouse.com/images/slideshow/AN4228.jpg

Re:does size matter?
There is also the Epoq EPP-HH01, "an aquardly cubed hen's egg projector" (2.2 x 2.2 x 1.6 inches). It's cheaper by a couple hundred dollars (USD), and would still fit in your laptop case. It's not available yet, but it could fit in the hands of your wee little dwarf clients.

Re:DivX is NO FORMAT!
No hand held I know is DivX certified.
Check out these phones and if you aren't lucky enough to own one download the mobile player for Windows Mobile or Symbian devices (scroll down the page a bit).
there are no DivX-HD players either
The DVB-T2 (HD version of DVB) will use H.264
The next beta of the DivX H.264 Decoder should have preliminary support for DVB apps.

* In-home installation services
Actually there's a pretty good market in home installations now, with media centers, automatic systems, and remote control like X10 being installed. I've seen 3 or 4 magazines that focus on these like "Smart Homeowner" and "Electronic House". Falcon

Re:Monster cable has been taking advantage...
Pretty much. Here's a good article that summarizes the state of "premium" cables.

Re:pretty, but the screen is too small
According to http://www.electronichouse.com/article/next_generation_star_trek_home_theater/C154/D2/#sidebar, the display is a projector onto a 135" screen.

I hate getting sent to articles that are simple summaries of the original.

Regular home theatre ?
Geeks don't need a "regular" home theatre. What you really need is one of these:
The Death Star Theater -

Electronic House article
Here's an article on the house with more pictures.

Actually, there is a link within the article
that is much more impressive.

Did you see where they put the TV?
I'm sorry, but a house with a 42" plasma screen in an utterly wasted position does not deserve the "Electronic House Home of the Year grand prize winner?"
It's not just a "wasted position", it's about 10 feet up. You have to look up to see the "assistant". At least turn it sideways to it doesn't look like a TV talking-head.
http://www.electronichouse.com/asset/3297.jpg
And it is dependent upon RFID chips on their house key "fobs" and other personal items?
Great. Now your family/house has something in common with razor-blades/Safeway. -
Bad use of tech?From TFA:
Cleopatra appears on a 42-inch Panasonic plasma screen that faces the front door
I'm sorry, but a house with a 42" plasma screen in an utterly wasted position does not deserve the "Electronic House Home of the Year grand prize winner?"
*shakes head* - also from TFA:"Everything we do is through the computer, even watching the DVDs
Watch DVDs on a computer! Revolutionary! Perhaps next they'll come up with a way of storing (ripping if you will) the DVD content to some other form of storage?"And while we have had some luck with voice recognition software and querying and controlling the house with that, we are still working to improve the recognition rate,
Does this ring alarm bells for anyone else?
Wife: Cleopatra - I'd like some port please
Cleopatra: Porn? Certainly - your husband's collection is large & diverse - please choose a subcatagory.
Wife: ???....
Cleopatra: (sotto voice) that'll teach you for saying I look like Angelina Jolie, you bitch
Oh and (last joke) - the house runs windows -
Re:Disappointing
And another article about Intel's delays: apparently the CEO isn't too happy about it ("It's enough of a problem that CEO Craig Barrett sent a terse note to the entire company urging more deadline diligence.")

My subs...
Nuts N Volts is a great electronics mag, from beginner to advanced. Electronic House is a great resource to steal ideas from. Those are the only 2 that I really get "in person" anymore. I keep meaning to re-sub to Wired, but haven't. Most everything else is read online.

Re: plasma TVs and lifespans
82" rear-projection model [...] I shudder to wonder what the sticker price would have been. It's probably at least double what I paid ($3299).
Ooops, I just found one for sale and I was wrong. The 82" model runs for more than $20,000!!
