Wish them luck but doubt it'll make it through...
Wish them luck but I doubt it'll make it through the approval process, especially given how A-hole-ish Apple comes off on today's '10 commandments' notice. Gonna be pretty hard to ever navigate those waters without having an 'in' to help you out.

Re:More importantly
We will reject Apps for any content or behavior that we believe is over the line. What line, you ask?
Well, as a Supreme Court Justice once said, "I'll know it when I see it". And we think that you will also
know it when you cross it.Yes, blocking a bittorrent remote control app because "this category of applications is often used for the purpose of infringing third party rights" was obviously stated from reading that document.

Shoddy research by this blogger
In five minutes worth of googling, I found : Barry's homepage, a page showing he doesn't own the "building" for his world headquarters, two press release articles showing he likely has the licensing rights, wikipedia articles not edited by him saying he owns the company etc, and three engadget pages which showed the guy has been working this deal since 2009. He began selling machines, and after Commodore Gaming said he didn't have the rights back in April he updated his site to indicate that he didn't yet have the rights, and a later article by the same author saying that he finally, maybe, got the rights.
Based on all I found, I'd say it's a safe bet this guy isn't a scam. But based on his homepages, I'd say he spent a bit too much time in the 60s getting stoned and it's affected his mind. He also seems to own a few other companies, which he runs out of his girlfriend's house maybe?
My conclusion is the blogger who got the takedown notice couldn't be bothered to do any research to back up his opinions, and is a jerk just looking for page hits. Barry was rightly indignant, but his knee jerk reaction makes him look like the bad guy here, and I'd say the blogger is in the wrong and owes an apology. although, I'd defend his right to be an ignorant opinionated ass. The takedown notice was stupid, and Barry should have talked to a lawyer first, since he'd have no case anyway. Let's put these two jerks in a wrestling ring and let them fight it out. It might be just as entertaining.

Re:Is it just because I'm a nerd
There was also Tegra-based Toshiba AC100 on display, with a lot more nerd-appeal IMHO.
I might buy one of these, if you can install a proper distro instead of this silly little smartphone OS. Tegra as such is relatively open, and there are instructions on getting Ubuntu and Gentoo on the devkit, but the netbook may be a different matter.
Here "relatively open" means that you need to run Nvidia's own kernel branch based on 2.6.29, and the video drivers seem to be closed blobs. I think I'll get a GNU/RMS-approved Lemote Yeeloong instead.

Re:One huge reason to buy an android phone
You shouldn't really talk when you obviously don't know anything about the subject of conversation. The number of phones that Cyanogen supports is not "dwindling" it is actually booming. Up through CM 5.0 he only supported 3 phones (G1, MyTouch, Nexus one) but with the development of 6.0 he recruited rom developers for all the other phones listed above. This just happened a few months ago and this article is discussing the fruits of their labor. Additionally, the encrypted bootloader you were mentioning on the Droid X/2 has been broken and full custom roms can be installed http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/30/custom-droid-x-roms-starting-to-break-loose-efuse-be-damned/. Really, try to lighted up with FUD and do some more reading before you decide the whole modding community is dwindling and doomed.
-
Because Google didn't make the Droid Incredible
So why should they build, test and support new roms for every different Android device out there? They've got enough on their plate developing the reference OS itself. You should be asking Verizon, or at least HTC.
With Ubuntu, a lot of people chipped in to write and make available many different device drivers so that a huge range of hardware could be supported. Phones too require different device drivers - but on phones, many of those drivers are still proprietary. Cyanogen (among others) is the best recourse we've got.
But for actual solutions - well, you could insist on buying only phones with minimal vendor changes from vanilla Android, thus reducing the amount of work needed for porting the latest OS. Vendors could devote more effort to supporting older hardware, since it's clear it's a big issue with customers. From Google's pov, they've said they're working on separating as much as possible from the base OS, so that the cooler stuff can be updated independently.
Only other "solution" I can think of is for Google to hold off releasing new versions until major vendors complete porting it to their older hardware. But all that would do is disadvantage Google's own customers to no purpose, just so that other vendors' customers don't know what they're missing, not to mention reducing the valuable feedback Google needs to work on the next version. Might as well go to an annual cycle and change their name to Apple 2.0.

Re:THIS
And just a bit of further information...
This tutorial describes how to stream some file from one PC to another using VLC.
You can do the same but only select stream from "capture device".
You can add this to Hamachi (Log me In), so that you have a secure Virtual LAN
Once you do this in both computers (so that each streaming is redirected to the other) you will have what you wanted.
In fact... I should try this now that my wife went to visit her family in Mexico for 3 weeks (we're living in Germany, so we have similar problems to stay in touch with the family).

Re:Silly
According to engadget it's going to cost 2.5 million. At $26 per ton that's 96,153 tons of recyclables before the new bins are paid off.
According to the article they picked up 5,800 tons of recyclables last year. Assuming that's the average for the recycling to pay off the new bins it's going to take 16 years.
Actually, your numbers are off. The city gets paid $26/ton for recyclables, but if those same recyclables go to the landfill, it costs $30/ton. So the city nets $56/ton from recyclables.
Also, I live in Cleveland. The recycling rate here is really pitiful. I think it is around 3% last I heard. Most of the city doesn't have curbside recycling pickup (aside from a few pilot areas). You have to haul your recyclables to a drop off. If this system gives us curbside pickup and some enforcement, it is easy to expect the rate would at least quadruple. Combine that with the $56/ton savings and it is paid for in two years.

Re:Whip out that gopher client?
Then USB drives hit the market and you had the best of both worlds, the size and the usability.
If you mean USB flash drives, there's that little, non-advertised 'snag', that USB drives start to lose write speed, when every datablock has been written to once.
In SSDs, that was (almost) fixed with the TRIM feature. Not so for USB flash drives.
Until that feature goes into them (if at all possible), I grind my teeth having to buy a USB flash drive to carry data with me.Flash cells are degraded a little for every write, so flash drives will start to fail sooner or later.
Even if this takes some years, flash is still 'a sword hanging over your data', if written to on a daily basis.
If your PSU craps out, a voltage spike might fry any SSDs, as well as any attached USB flash drives along with it.
For comparison, magnetically stored data would be recoverable. It would cheer me up a great deal if HRDs came to market soon:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/18/dataslides-hard-rectangular-drive-set-to-revolutionize-storage/
Although intended for internal storage, smaller editions might also be sturdy enough to compete with USB flash drives, and certainly replace external HDDs.
Longevity measured in decades (as I understand it), and the speed of SSD's.
The seek time (or equivalent) might be somewhere between Raptors and SSDs, but I could live with that. -
Re:Vendors
2) nVidia in particular but ATi as well are real good at writing drivers. They don't crash much, if ever. They are not going to be our source of instability.
Wait, what changed in the last couple years? Last I heard, graphics drivers were a very substantial cause of Windows crashes. This article says nVidia + ATI together was over 1/3 of reported crashes, and nVidia was responsible for 1.5 times the number of crashes that MS was.
Was that just a temporary situation caused by Vista's release? Or maybe things were different in the XP era when it was easier for a driver to crash a system?

Re:Which Android pod touch?
According to the first result from Google for zenpad 4 [engadget.com], Apple has this product handily beat in build quality.
I'm not surprised--are you? Since the early days of the mp3 players, the iPod and successors have beaten most of their competitors in build quality!
So the criteria you're now looking for is:
1) Android 2.2 only
2) iPad / PDA size only
3) Must be >= Apple build qualityThat could be hard to find...
Can you specify?
Sure, here's most of what I found:
http://www.engadget.com/tag/android,tablet
I can't claim to have read them all, but one of the first ones -- Samsung Galaxy -- appears to be a tablet with 2.2. Not sure if it meets the definition of pda.
I've read rumors that Google won't allow Android 2.x devices with no cellular radio to have Google's apps or Android Market.
Interesting...though I guess it's getting to the point where everything has a cell radio. I have an iPad 3g, and I DID enable the 3g plan for one month, but rarely needed to use it. I would think a wifi tablet still has plenty of market room (especially with things like the Mifi).

Re:Which Android pod touch?
Zenpad4?
According to the first result from Google for zenpad 4 , Apple has this product handily beat in build quality.
Or a PDA format: http://www.the-digital-reader.com/2010/06/17/88-android-pda/
From the linked page: "Android 1.5".
Amongst many others.
Can you specify? I tried searching Google for android 2.2 tablet, but this result claims that the word "tablet" calls to mind 7" and 10" devices, and "PDA" better fits the 4" and 5" devices such as the iPod Touch and Archos 5. So I tried searching Google for android 2.2 pda, but apparently that combination is so seldom encountered on the Web that Google though I misspelled android 2.2 xda.
do you have any clue what so many phones / tablets seem to be released with 1.6?
I've read rumors that Google won't allow Android 2.x devices with no cellular radio to have Google's apps or Android Market.

Re:IE turns 15...
Here's my take on the whole netbook spec creep question. The original vision of what a netbook was was a miniature laptop that had just enough capability to get you on the web and do a few other basic things. They were small, light and very portable compared to regular laptops. Continuing that vision today would involve not adding bulk, size, and consequently price but by actually reducing those things. Instead of an "an Atom 330 with nVidia's ION", how about a Snapdragon and a PowerVR? No active cooling necessary, very little heat, much longer battery life with the same size battery, cheaper, and now it's even more portable. But that's just an example. The idea is to take the original vision and refine it with newer and newer technologies. Not take the original vision and try to shoehorn it into mini-laptop territory.
But, really, whatever dude. If you think this is a netbook, then so be it. Have a nice day.

Re:so...
Your whole post shows ingorance and stupidity. You've insisted on twisting facts and altering the truth to show only Apple. And you've gotten more and more childish. How pathetic.
So, why don't Google and Microsoft have successful products? News flash, they do and unlike Apple, they lead in their given field. Google is about Search Engines and online programs which it is the global leader in, anything it does beyond that is just fun and games for them. They really don't make smartphones, they released an OS for them and didn't market it because it wasn't there big business concept. And Microsoft's business is desktop OS and game consoles which is where they rock. Over 90% of OS's on desktops are Windows, and they are neck to neck on the console market with Sony, beating Apple on both of those levels since Apple has gone into both of those markets. So much for your bullshit of how those 2 companies aren't successful. Apple is either barely leading or is in a second-third place in the markets they are attempting, and they are going for market leadership in those fields and still can't reach full market leadership which means Apple is more of a failure then these companies.
As for Apple products have design flaws, lets see. Apple's had failing graphic cards in its MBP multiple times which leads to a more likely answer that its an engineering fault on their end (Google it, they way you might learn something). Snow Leopard has been a nightmare for Apple. Then there is the fact that the iPod batteries keep exploding, you'd think they would learn to make them right. There are a few for you to start, and as you can see, they aren't isolated incidents, they were big issues that effects all units.
Oh, and retard, Droid is a US only device and I'm not in that country so its hard to be a fanboi of something I don't own. Suck it hard bitch, like its your dad.

Re:the gamechanger
See, if you read my post, I was COMPLAINING that those features were ABSENT those particular apps, although TTS does work if you turn it on systemwide.
Despite owning an iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad... I have no trouble pointing out when Apple screws up. What I have an issue with are the "haters", those people who spend all their time online BASHING a company and its products, while doing nothing constructive themselves!
I personally would prefer if there were both "moderated" and "unmoderated" sections in the App Store, I dont know exactly what I'm missing... I havnt seen many apps on Android for example that I'd buy the device for, but sure, in theory, I'd prefer "more choice". I could put up with the likes of this http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/13/editorial-waiter-theres-a-nazi-theme-in-my-android-market/ in exchange for "freedom".
"Nevermind the DRM...", exactly how does that affect me, the end user? Do you think that by touching my iPad, you dick would drop off, that you'd only have a week to live? So I cant easily steal applications from someone elses account, big deal! If I had the choice between DRM free music (like iTunes sells) or a lower price, I'd prefer cheaper music. Being only able to play a song on five devices IS a silly restriction, but has never affected me yet. And look, when possible, Jobs himself has spoken out against DRM.
http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughtsonmusic/
Exactly what is the iPad "denying" you? Do you think Jobs himself will show up at your doorstep, and beg to hear more of your theories? Will he ask you to replace him as Apple CEO?
I dont like Justin Bieber, but I dont spend all my time bitching about him online, if asked, I'd say "I dont like his music", but its no big deal to me personally. If you like some vapourware "iPad Killer", great for you! Meanwhile, I, and many other millions of people worldwide will continue to buy every iPad in stock. -
Re:Do not want.
I'll be interested when it has pressure sensitivity.
Ten One is making impressive strides in that regard.
The iPad is inferior to a Cintiq as a drawing device, but it will be owned by people who would never drop $1000+ on an art tool. It's also portable in ways Wacom devices really aren't. You could just as easily argue "Anybody who can draw something halfway decent with a pencil and a sketchbook could make something spectacular on a Wacom", but pencils and sketchbooks aren't going away either.
