Re:It should... but what about Ecto-1
Or even the Ecto-88. Which is a DeLorean.

Airwolf
"Airwolf is the Holy Grail. The Golden Fleece. The thing you want that you cannot have. When you go sprinting through the mall
desperate to fill the emptiness in your life through the purchase of name brand clothing and electronics, you will never achieve satisfaction. Because the one brand name you really want is the one you can never have.Airwolf? Oh, I'm sorry, we're all sold out. That item was only available for a very limited time and in very limited supply...
One."

Re:AI is a moving targetSeems to be the same with classifying animals as intelligent. People come up with a definition of what separates humans from other animals, and then we see that trait demonstrated in animals, and then they just go and raise the bar, or some up with something else. Language skills, tool use, emotion and sympathy for others. All these thing have been shown to exist in animals. What really makes us different from animals? Hubris.
People like to think of themselves as separate from the animals because they have egos greater than their intelligence.
We eat, excrete, bleed and die like all other animals, animals fear, love and get bored like us.We're clever monkies, plain as day, and some people are just WAY too full of themselves to admit it. So they keep making up ridiculous reasons why they are better than animals, why their country is better than others, etc. They aren't.

Re:SR-71 Blackbird
Better ask a crazy religious fanatic to pilot your top secret SR-71 blackbird than Stringfellow Hawke.
You don't ask a guy with a name like Stringfellow Hawke to fly your top secret black airplane. Why? Because he's obviously going to steal it. He is obviously a prototypical American anti-hero, for fucks sake. He lives in the mountains, he plays the cello, his name is StringFellow Hawke. He can not be trusted. He not going to use the SR-71 to execute American foreign policy. He's going to keep it for himself. He walks out to his backyard to stare at it every night around sunset, the sight of it filling him with such peace and resident satisfaction that he came to believe the perfect haiku had just seven syllables: SR-71 Blackbird.
Thanks Ernie Cline. -
Re:Benefit or detriment?
Oh, I don't know. I don't think so. Neither does the guy who created this video, titled, "Dance, Monkeys, Dance."
I think it puts the whole idea into perspective. We're just another variety of life on this planet that's managed to evolve to the point of self-awareness, tool-using, and altogether too much self-importance. The idea that the universe would suffer from the human species becoming missing is folly.
Hah, look around you. If you think all you see is a good thing when compared to what things would have been like without us, you're nuts. -

Re:obligatory dead troll link
Funny stuff. As a tech line monkey, I've always liked Ernie Cline's Tech Support monologue. "The Internet is my bitch... I speak its language: I'm like f**king Tron."

Re:Forgotten (Zardoz and Buckaroo Banzaii)
I am a big fan of Zardoz, though it is a product of its time and has loads of detractors. It is an extropian cautionary tale about what happens if you get more life but don't really evolve yourselves. As for Buckaroo Banzaii. I can't get enough of it and wish the sequel and TV series had gone somewhere. The writer of the best-candiate spec. script for the sequel in recent years has this to say about Buckaroo Banzaii (at 1:10, and a few other geeky films).

If they were cleverer, they'd opensource it....
... and release it as a projectbuilder tarball.
It'd make a great 'example' for coders to get familiar on, and Apple could take advantage of a large pool of folks who like browser innovations but also want to take advantage of OSXisms to make the most airwolf browser possible.
I mean, c'mon, what do they have in there that isn't a) trivial to do in Moz/Camino, or b) reliant on Aqua/Cocoa-proprietary APIs? They're not making money on it, they could even use the GPL MySQL-style, where they control the 'official' and 'officially-supported' product, giving credit but requiring unlimited license for inclusion in the official product.. Are they ashamed of the code quality, paranoid, or just short-sighted? (mercy, I HOPE they're not so dumb as to think they can _make money_ by _selling_ safari shrinkwrap?)
(not that _I've_ done much on OSX myself, but maybe it'd be easier to do more if there were better documentation and examples.. Or maybe I'm just fsckin lazy and unmotivated ;)
ps: when will Apple update its HTML display frameworks to use the KHTML renderer across ALL HTML apps? The HTML widget that Sherlock uses chokes on obtuse and complicated CSS, which Safari even now can handle..
