I Gotcher Poll Right HereYou mean something like iVote?
Written in Perl to work with Apache and mod_perl for high-speed, it's an image-based polling/voting system with a nice GUI and a bunch of good features.
Microsoft can't have it, and I ain't sharing.

One of the first Linux Webcams
One of the first Linux quickcams is still up and running (more or less) since 1994 and the page describes a good deal about how to do it.

GUI ProgramsWriting GUI apps in a primarily non-event driven language is a PITA. Look at Perl/Tk for example. Yeah, it works. Would I want to write applications in it? No...
I wrote TkApache in Perl/Tk. It works and works well, but it's just not the way to go about coding GUI apps. Perl is not meant to write event-driven applications such as this. What it is good for is giving scripts a quick interface for variables or input.
I don't think PHP needs to incorporate this technology into itself. It's great for what it does - dynamically driven sites. Leave it at that and leave the bloat out.

No thanks!I've already got an Ultra 60 with dual 450MHz processors, 1GB of RAM and two internal 9GB drives, with an attached Multipack containing six 18GB drives in a RAID 0+1 configuration... Sporting two Creator 3D cards and 21" monitors...
Heheh.

Linux and the Palm/Handspring Handhelds - CORRECTLinux also works very well with the Palm and Handspring handhelds. There's a good article on this subject, entitled "Using the PalmPilot Under Linux" on this subject.
This is the correct URL. Jeez. I gotta lay off the caffeine...

Hang in thereI understand your frustration. I'm a newbie too. I'm not sure what distros you tried, but the newer versions of RedHat, Mandrake, Debian and others have a relatively decent graphical install. (Stay away from Slackware while you're a newbie). You still have to do some homework though before you install. I bought Running Linux before even attempting an install. Not a bad book.
Even if you never buy a book, there are tons of documentation and help sites. I highly recommend Linux Coffee Talk at eunuchs.org/cgi-bin/lct.pl. I've posted questions there and have gotten rather quick and helpful responses. Hang in there, I have thoroughly been impressed with the sheer number of powerful and lightning quick packages that Linux has to offer. Windows is easier, but near as much fun.

Mohawk
...too bad I beat them with a product called Mohawk...

My Beef With XiG Products and ReviewFor example, when I installed the CDE product with their AX server, it installed "mwm" as the default window manager! Yikes. The installer also has a habit of overwriting your current configs - you MUST read the directions, and make backups of important files like
.xinitrc, etc.The install program needs to be a little more direct in what it's doing. Other than that, their products are very good, speedwise and stability-wise. I've never had an issue with their software - just the installer.

Check Out an Original LINUX CamThat's cool, I guess... If you have nothing better to do than watch Jenni gain weight.
I started one of the first Linux cams way back when the Connectix first came out. It's still up today, years later. Instructions on how to do it, etc.
