best lyrics program EVAR: -- EVILLYRICS --EvilLyrics is the best program EVER!! (quicker download link: HERE)
Automatically search for lyrics of the song currently playing in Winamp, and display them in a tiny window. You can also store lyrics for offline viewing. This version supports Windows Media Player, Foobar2000, Sonique, iTunes, Winamp, and RealPlayer.
Not only that, but you can display the lyrics with timing -- they are hilighted as they are sung. They can also be sent to MilkDrop as they are sung. About 45,000 "karaoke" files have been created. Creating one is as simple as listening to the song once, and hilighting the lyrics yourself using the down-arrow key. Then they are uploaded and anyone else listening to that song can benefit.
I donated $50 to the author of the program, and more development is really needed. Development has been slow this past year.
His program does not actually store any lyrics; it just searches 50+ search engines for the lyrics, and frequently gets them right in 1 or 2 tries.
No single program has ever enhanced my music-listening experience more. Having a hard time understanding lyrics, I am suddenly finding the true meanings of many songs I have been listening to for 15 years or more. It is like a musical re-awakening...Suddenly being able to know every word of every The Misfits song is really sweet.

Good thing the RIAA never heard about EvilLyrics!EvilLyrics is a great program that automatically downloads and displays the lyrics to whatever song you are listening to - in whatever media player you are listening to it in.
EvilLyrics lets you highlight the lyrics in time to the music by downloading a 'karaoke' file for each song. In tern, these lyrics can be sent -- with proper timing -- to WinAmp's MilkDrop visualizer plugin for quite an awesome visual display.
Need this for a rare song? Listen to it once while manually hilighting the lyrics with the down arrow. Upload to server automatically. Now, any EvilLyrics user who listens to that song will get your hilighting. (Side-effect: Almost all the 1980s pop songs I downloaded already had working karaokes, there are 45,000 now and growing every day.)
Lyrics are, of course, saved on your local harddrive so that in the event of the RIAA actually winning a planetary lockdown on lyrics (ha ha ha ha ha), you would still have a copy of them all on your harddrive.
Get it. It's good. Right here.

Share your innovative softwareIs this dude counting all the innovative software out there? Share your favorites.
Lyric software that searches automatically while mp3's are playing and include 10's of thousands of Karoke files that when paired with Vocal Removing Software allows me to have improvised karoke nights in my living room with any song that I can get lyrics to.

MilkDrop can also show the lyrics as they're sung!Well, not by itself. There's a program called EvilLyrics. It can display the lyrics of a song AS THEY ARE SUNG. It can send it to milkdrop using milkdrop's internal messaging system.
Best visual music-listening experience ever!
However, the idea of an external program rewriting milk_msg.ini every few seconds is a less-than-perfectly-elegant solution. Better would be for milkdrop to be able to somehow receive an entire file of lyrics+timing, queue it up, and display them without any kludges. Someone please add this! It could simply be sent the filename of an LRC file, which has a timestamp and line of lyrics on each line.

Re:How does this compare to Milkdrop...
Let's not forget that in conjunction with EvilLyrics, found at http://www.evillabs.sk/ you can have the lyrics sent to milkdrop as they are sung.
That's irrelevant since everybody knows the words to "Stairway to Heaven" and "Freebird" already. -

Let's not forget that in conjunction with EvilLyrics, found at http://www.evillabs.sk/ you can have the lyrics sent to milkdrop as they are sung. No other program can do this in existence. Certainly not in a way where you can download the lyrics and timing information for new songs in near-realtime.

best praticesc:\mp3\bandname\albumname\01_track.mp3
I like to make my album names like:
"1 - 1987 - Kill 'Em All"
"2 - 1989 - Ride The Lightning"
"3 - 1991 - Master Of Puppets"
Also, I think trusting such a thing to any program is asking for trouble. Manual is the best way.
Playlist-generation is an entirely different issue. How do you deal with files you want to keep, but don't want to hear on a regular basis? Is there a way to adjust the music so that certain bands you don't want to play wont play when friends are over? (Because how many normals want to hear an anime theme song? Or King Diamond?)
Tagging: I use Tag-and-Rename. It lets you specify how to tag based on the filename. Like: %4\%3\%0_%2 would be "artist\album\tracknumber_title". And then auto-tags.
Also, MusicBrainz can tag based on acoustic fingerprint, but is not too good with unpopular songs.
Please, all people should tag both id3v2 AND id3v1. Both are important in different situations.
Encoding: Use LAME.exe, VBR, highest setting!
Playing: Winamp.
Best visualizer: MilkDrop.
Best companion program: EvilLyrics (http://www.evillabs.sk/) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EvilLyrics autodownloads the lyrics of whatever you are listening to and permanently stores them in a cache! When and if you hand-edit the lyrics, you can save them and they will be set to read-only.
You can listen to the song, and hilight the lyrics as you listen to it, and a timing-file (karaoke file) is saved, so that the lyrics are hilighted. It is uploaded to a central server. You can download all 27000 karaoke files via bittorrent.
Best of all: These timed lyrics are sent to milkdrop, which displays them as you listen. Best listening experience ever!
