If you really want to have fun with a Subaru, do this to it.

Re:Oh enough with the range whining
I have a 1985 Volvo sedan that I use to commute the 15 miles each way to work. It's a beater that I'm just keeping alive because all I need is something that reaches 65mph and gets me to work. I also do some errands in it.
My wife's car is a 2007 VW Passat wagon with 300hp and a tow hitch. If we're going to visit my family 200 miles away or we have a whole lot of driving to do, we and the kids all get in this car.
We have one car for 1 purpose and a different car for another. Why is it so hard to imagine that all cars have to be all things for all people? I hope to build a sportscar in my garrage someday. No one would expect me to use/treat this car the same as I would either of these other 2 cars.
I really wish I could just stuff an electric motor and batteries in the 1985 volvo and plug it in. It would be used in almost exactly the same way as it is now.

Re:Captain Obvious says
Such a car exists. Buy it here. Some assembly required.

Similar Cobra lawsuit, but FactoryFive won
Factory Five makes Shelby Cobra replicas. Carroll Shelby sued to get them to stop in 2000. He lost. He tried again recently for the coupe version. Lost again, with predjudice. Only major change I'm aware of as a consumer is that FactoryFive can't use the term "Cobra" to describe their product. Here's their celebratory press release.
Seems like Gothem Garage should review this case and maybe change their advertising.

Re:where to start with DIY home security?
how DIY if a car are we talking? steel stock to car? how about a kit car? http://www.factoryfive.com/table/ffrkits/orderakit.html as an example. I'm willing to bet I could do a better DIY baby monitor than the $50 graco one I have, that makes no effort to filter background noise at all, can't monitor 2 channels at once(despite being a 2 room system) I'm willing to bet an AVR/PIC + fm transmitter/receiver would work better, or mybe a zigbee radio.
The pacemaker I do agree with you on, the rest of the list not so much.

Re:where to start with DIY home security?
I don't care how much of a geek someone is, DIY is almost always inferior when talking about anything complicated and physical.
DIY website? Sure. DIY car? No.
DIY coffee table? Cool. DIY baby monitor? Bad.
Really DIY baby monitor you consider complicated? Turn in that geek card.
DIY pointless electronics project with blinking LEDs? LOL nerd. DIY pacemaker? LOL dead.
