Seen it!
Imagine if William Gibson wrote a James Bond adventure in which a sexual tigress seduces Bond into a Caribbean political crisis
I'm pretty sure this story already has its own category over at fanfiction.net. Except that Pokemon is involved somehow, too. -

No, some people are really wrong at heart.

Fan Fiction Happens Here TooFanfic aka FanFiction aka Slash is not just a Japanese Anime phenomenon; it's wildly popular with Science Fiction / Fantasy / Horror book, movie, and TV genres as well, and is especially easy to find on the net. Some large fraction of it may be obsessively devoted to obsessively describing Scully's sexual relationships with Mulder or the Cigarette Smoking Man, or Kirk's with Spock, or Buffy's with whomever or whatever, but that's just Donaldson's Law ("Sturgeon was an optimist"). Some of it's actually quite good, and some of it's really really bad but still funny.
And then there's Filk .

Damn... I was hoping
...that it might be slash .

Harry Potter fanfiction
I read the article at another source, but am left wondering how the content of 'Leopard Walk up to Dragon' is any different than the reams and reams of bad Harry fanfiction available on sites like Fanfiction.net.
While it's being sold as Rowling's work, that is the only crime I see being committed, unless the publishers want to stamp out all original Harry fiction in the name of 'protecting their copyright'. Even the most zealous of intellectual property holders, Paramount, doesn't do a thing to inhibit the vast, vast legions of Trek ficcers and slash writers because they know exactly badly they'd alienate their fan communities. Lucas doesn't either. In fact, SW stories flourish on sites like theforce.net.
I imagine that 'Leopard Walk up to Dragon' is probably a fanstory that got snapped up by an unscrupulous pirate publisher. The real author is probably not getting the credit he or she deserves for being so dedicated as to write a novel-length fan story and the legitimate Harry Potter publishers are going to make everyone's lives miserable because of it. -
Fucking paperclip...
I'm sure some people have exciting stories of battling the talking paperclip...
Heh, you bet I do. Take a look at this:
Once upon a time, there was a small boy. He loved to use Microsoft Word, and was, unlike most, paricularly fond of that lovable scamp known as Clippy. Clippy would always pop up just when he needed help with something, and was the best friend a boy could have. Paperclips live forever, but not so little boys, and so, as time passed, the boy, who was not so little any more, began to grow tired of Clippy's constant popping up. Clippy, sensing that he would soon be abandoned, began to pop up more and more frequently, even when he had no advice to give. Matters came to a head one April night, when the boy, sick of Clippy's shenanegins, tried to close the irksome paperclip. Sensing his life was in danger, Clippy leapt from the screen, snarling ferociously. The ensuing struggle lasted for three hours. At its completion, the boy stumbled out, battered, and with thousands of paperclip-shaped bruises and gashes all over his body, but victorious.
What was the point of this story? I was that boy.
Note: Normally I would just give a link to fanfiction.net, where I originally posted it, but since the site seems to be down (and because that version is slightly altered to be *cough* backstreet boys fan fiction), you'll have to make do with this. If you really need to, you can search for the author's name--moyix--on http://fanfiction.net/ when it comes back up.

Re:They have to be kidding . . .
Actually, I used to read a lot of stuff off my laptop's hard drive, and that only went up to 800x600 on a rather small display. Lying on my bed, reading fanfiction was a briliant way to while away a few hours.
Now that I haven't got a laptop any more, I'm printing stuff again, which is a bit of a waste of paper and toner. It's a real shame - I have broadband now. Combine that and wireless networking, and that would be my perfect bed-time reading solution. Maybe that's a market for these devices.

Re:What about
If you really want to get into how loose and broad this law is, I can honestly say that half the internet would be banned from anything but
.prn.
Sites such as fanfiction.net, a good deal of the planet sites(like planetquake), this website in itself,(for the foul language and ocassional mention of anything that might harm those poor minor's little heads) any search engine that provides results for other countries and/or websites under the .prn name...
You have to remember. Everything can be harmful to a minor. Anything from pencils to stories to videogames to power rangers. If something can harm a kid, it falls under the jurisdiction of this law, and is relegated to .prn.
If this law passes over the heads of anyone in our governmental system, I swear to god, I'm either going to revolt or flee the country - I don't think anyone wants to be ruled over by people this dense.

The Great Lie
I keep hearing the same argument over and over again that I figure it deserves some recognition.
The Great Lie is as follows: Without us (your friendly neighborhood content conglomerate) the entire well of human creativity would dry up!
Let me elaborate. They're saying that without the RIAA and it's member companies, nobody would create any more music! Without the MPAA and the big studios, we'd never see any more new movies. The Lie is that without big, greedy corporations continuing Business As Usual, nothing new or original would ever produced, ever.
History proves otherwise, though. Already we've seen small bands create their own music and give it away online, just for the exposure. In a few years of technological advancement, any talented bunch of people will be able to make their own "Hollywood style" movie at home. Writings? Ha! People will gladly write free work on any subject imaginable.
Heck, some people even lose money bringing original content to the masses.
So you see, whatever happens, you can't stifle human creativity. No matter how hard you try. We don't need Them to entertain us anymore; and the only reason they're still around - the only reason they were ever around in the first place - is by our good graces.
