Re:Elitst
What makes railway expensive isn't the labor. It's the logistics of complying with the demands of everyone and everything who might be impacted by the project.
Yes, that is an issue, but not an insurmountable one.
Yes, their stations are more expensive, but they don't have to lay out tracks around mountains, avoid residential areas, or consider (much) the impact on wildlife.
Given the actual rail plan, these issues are accounted for already in general. But that's not to say that the rail plan couldn't be improved with some big tunnels through certain problematic areas. Tunnels do solve the problem of how to get through highly populated areas, and I think it absolutely makes sense to employ them there.

Re: Why is this a problem?
There is no surer way to misread any document than to read it literally. ⦠As nearly as we can, we must put ourselves in the place of those who uttered the words, and try to divine how they would have dealt with the unforeseen situation; and, although their words are by far the most decisive evidence of what they would have done, they are by no means final.
Judge Learned Hand.
What is morality if you cannot set your own mind to it? If we accept that taxes are the price to pay for society, then what shall we do but decide the means for it? Given that we know the value of what they own, how can we expect so much more from the poor? Perhaps the wealthy should demand less if they want their taxes reduced.

Re:Amnesty can go and fuck itself
Case of child abuse
http://www.kingsvillerecord.co...Would an innocent person have resigned? The crime was CONTINUOUS abuse, not a single incident. A public employee blog later reported that the witness recanted. Was someone harrassed or bought off? (The person who took the famous choking video has experienced considerable abuse).
Once the perp gets a conviction tossed he can go back to "serving the public".

Um, no.

Re:which bay would that be?
To measure the pollution coming from the Bay Area, planes should take air samples above Fresno because the Central Valley is the Bay Area's meteorological tailpipe.
They did, last week.

Re:The same reason our passenger rail system stink
Please explain why California doesn't have passenger rail and internet service equivalent to France
Lawsuits Anja Raudabaugh, executive director of the Madera County Farm Bureau, a plaintiff in one of the suits, said an injunction is the only avenue available to "prevent permanent damage and irreparable harm" to agriculture from construction and operation of the train system.

Re:When I was
These sorts of attacks go well beyond an inconvenience on a desktop, potentially affecting physical operations. It seems like the media doesn't know enough to dig deeper when something goes wrong.
Examples of media not doing investigative journalism:
No reports that I could find mentioned the possiblity of a cyber event, or solar flares and the arriving CME as possibly affecting power in India recently. They were quick to blame capacity, even though the initial outage struck at about 2 AM, which is not at peak demand.Poop spills in California
http://www.fresnobee.com/2012/08/01/2932799/reedley-sewage-leaked-for-10-hours.html"alert system" sure sounds like control system to me. And two of them were affected at once, not typical for a hardware problem.
And the Richmond refinery near San Francisoc had problems around the same time.

Re:Tell the sheeple it doesn't matter who wins...
Barack Obama has made it American policy to not go after medical marijuana dispenserise though George W Bush (and to be fair Clinton) did attach these legal (at a state level) and illegal (at a fed level) dispenseries.
That's bullshit. The Feds are still raiding dispensaries.
Here are three articles on recent raids that come up when I type in "dispensary raid" into Google News:
"Dog Killed in Pot Dispensary Raid " (June 10, 2011)

Re:After reciving an e-mail that appeared...
Not it's not. They haven't done much worth a damn except spend their budget.
They just troll for weak-minded "anti-Americans" who (to paraphrase another slashdotter) could be convinced to rob a hotdog stand, then undercover FBI agents and overpaid snitches* develop some big scheme** and then cram it down the target's throat until the target agrees***, then they bust the target as soon as he agrees and the media makes a big circus of it telling everybody that millions of lives were saved and another 9/11 was thwarted.
* To the tune of $250,000 apiece. Think about that when you're eating ramen tonight.
** Which makes FBI better terror planners than the so-called "terrorists" themselves!
*** Or otherwise utilize entrapment and other illegal techniques. But who cares? it's Terrorists we're talking about here! -

Re:Life
By putting your life on the line, I was implying that they put their life on the line for others. I think that deserves a great deal of respect. I am by no means someone who holds a cop as someone higher than everyone else, and above the law, but that degree of unselfishness is worthy of my respect. I'm not saying that everyone who is a cop holds to the code of "To Protect and Serve", but those that do shouldn't be degraded to the level of those that don't.
May I ask if you have turned anyone in who has broken the code of your profession? Perhaps someone violating the internet usage code (browsing Slashdot during work hours may be applicable). Or maybe someone who isn't obeying the dress code. Perhaps someone who leaves work/gets to work a few minutes early or late. To say that any cop who hasn't obeyed the law should be fired and arrested would pretty much leave nobody around. Cops are human, too (excepting robocop), and that implies a degree of mistakes.
If you have tried to turn people in for what are considered minor offenses, who do you think gets the worst of it. I know that if I were to tell my boss that a co-worker was 10 minutes late for work, my co-worker may get reprimanded, but my boss gets the impression that they have a big mouth. I'm sure that the same would happen for a cop. If they get a reputation for tattling on their co-workers, it's going to be miserable for them. It's not right, but that's the way it is.
Finally, I don't know what you are talking about with cops never being in trouble. A google search for "Cop arrested for" gives quite a few relevant stories on the first page. They get away with some stuff, like non-cops, and they get caught for some stuff, like non-cops. -

Wanna see something funny?Check out this article from the Christian Science Monitor - at the top is a photo captioned "Pelco CEO David McDonald walks through the X-ray checkpoint at Fresno Yosemite International Airport with a picture of Osama bin Laden to demonstrate a new face identification system."
For more on McDonald's over-hyping of the emperor's new security blanket, see this article from the Fresno Bee .
Sample quote: "This breakthrough technology makes us the safest airport in America," Mayor Alan Autry said.
