Each time I read about the RIAA on Slashdot...
... I cannot help but think of the Cock Sparrer song "Take 'Em All" about record labels:
We worked our way up from East End pubs
To gigs and back stage passes
Ex-boxing champs, West End clubs
Americans in dark glasses
Driving ten grand cars, they drink in hotel bars
They're even making money in bed
They wouldn't be no loss, they ain't worth a toss
It's about time they all dropped dead.
[Chorus]
Take 'em all, take 'em all
Put 'em up against a wall and shoot 'em
Short and tall, watch 'em fall
Come on boys take 'em all
Well tough shit boys, it ain't our fault
Your record didn't make it
We made you dance, you had your chance
But you didn't take it
Well, I gotta go make another deal
Sign another group for the company
I don't suppose we'll ever meet again
You'd better get back to the factory.
[Chorus]
Take 'em all, watch 'em fall [x4]
[Chorus Repeat...] -
Re:not grounded in any kind of reality
The fact is: most people I've come across that smoke mariuhana on a regular or semiregular basis: (a) isn't someone I would characterize as "smart" or "clever", (b) tends to focus a lot of their attention to it (as opposed to more productive things, like work, studies, or family).
Um, ok. So like video games are an analogy, right? And computer programmers? They don't have lives, right? Unhappy and all that?
Here's a list:
http://www.slatts.fsworld.co.uk/famous.htm
This leaves us with two options: (a) Marihuana makes you stupid, or (b) Marihuana attracts stupid people. I don't know which one is most important, but I guess they both contribute to the picture.
Marijuana, like all potentially fun experiences, attracts "stupid people." Stupid people have a right to live, too. Much like it attracts smart people. Without "stupid people," you wouldn't have many of the commodities you so very much enjoy today. Also, stupid people are worse at hiding that they do illegal things. So maybe that's a factor.
Here's my question. Should I use Xanax instead? -
Re:WTF? They only tested NCC-1701A!
Voyager did in fact land on a planet during one of the inter-season cliffhangers (the one where Seska takes over Voyager with her Kazon boyfriend's help. Oh, here, I found a link. The episode was "Basics", and Seska landed so she could kick them all to the curb on a primitive planet.)
I, um, probably shouldn't know that, but it was back when it looked like the series might actually have a chance, so take pity. Looking around, "Basics" actually opened Season 3, which was IMO the least sucky Voyager season up to the time I stopped watching (shortly after Kes became a Vorlon and 44 of DD joined the crew).

Re:Chances likely to change?
Although I will agree with the moderators that this is funny, I think I should do a bit of nit-picking.
An attowatt is one-quintillionth of a watt (not one quintillion watts) Such a laser would be utterly useless for pretty much everything. See this metric conversion guide. A 50-yottawatt laser would be more like what you were thinking of (plus it sounds so good... yottawatt. Wow.)
But really, the post was funny anyway. This is just FYI. -
Re:Short-lived
I wouldn't say it's a short-lived sport, as geo-caching was probably derived from letterboxing, which dates back to the 1850s - and is a bit more challenging, not to mention, just about free.

Try the Recent Civ2 LotR Scenarios
Favoured Flight (Interview) has recently made some really good LotR scenarios for Civ2.
Despite the release of the craptastic Civ3, the Civ2 scenario-making community is still going strong. Spanish Civ2 Site has an excellent scenario collection; many of the more recent scenario can be found at Civilization Fanatics Centre; myself, I run the Scenario League resource for designers and can be often spotted in the Apolyton Forums.
Just FYI, of course.:) -
Re:Designs and CopywriteYou tick the quarter mile in under 12. That's if your foot has the brains to not boil the tires. You're damn near the fastest thing on the planet with four wheels.
Nice though Mr. Lingenfelter's offerings are (and I'd certainly like one!), if you want to claim fast, even in the road legal category, then you've got to get down well under 9 seconds. See here and here, and I'm sure there are faster examples on the other side of the pond.
