Re:SCI
Oh I have played some of the AGS made games as well as others. Some AGS games that I liked in particular were the Trilby games (ie. 5 Days A Stranger, 7 Days a Skeptic, 6 Days A Sacrifice), Emily Enough, King's Quest Remake, King's Quest III Remake and Quest for Glory II Remake. One of my favourite free, non-AGS adventures games is Out of Order.
When it comes to adventure games, there probably aren't many that I wouldn't enjoy. Space Quest games, Leisure Suit Larry games, King's Quest games, Laura Bow games, Kyrandia games, Broken Sword games, Monkey Island games, Maniac Mansion games, TLJ games, Syberia games...you name it and I have probably completed it. Any new (to me) adventure is welcome whether it's commercial, free, professional or amateur.

Re:It's OK
You should check out this hilarious video review of Bioshock. He starts off by showing how BioShock isn't like System Shock 2, it *IS* System Shock 2. He then proceeds to tear the game to shreds by pointing out the numerous flaws. He still said it's the probably the best game of the year, and I'd tend to agree. But that isn't saying much considering the (lack of) competition.
I thought the theme, sound, story and art direction were fantastic. The only downside I noticed was how repetitive and how horribly easy it was. I still enjoyed the game and would give it atleast an 8.5/10. It was definitely worth the purchase, even aside from all the flaws.
If you found that review funny, check out his other reviews here and here. -
Or, you could link to his website!

Re:I grew up on this stuff
Those are usually called adventure games, not IF. Although I guess you could say they're a comibation what with the text parser and all. And yes, adventure games are awesome.

Other Adventure Games
If there's some adventure fans that are psyched about the possibility of a Sam & Max release, there are some fun freeware adventure games out there that I've really enjoyed and feel others may too? Just trying to spread some of the good news in the genre:
The games '5 Days a Stranger' and '7 Days a Skeptic' are a lot of fun and are free for download, it's neat to see what game developers are up to in order to deal with the paucity of new adventure games. 5 Days a Stranger, http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/5days/ is the first in a series, followed by the Sci-Fi themed 7 Days a Skeptic http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/7days/. They're both by this designed named 'Ben Crenshaw', and looks like they have won a few awards - it's great that this designer of free software is getting recognized.
Hope this helps some people deal with the lack of adventure games, and let's hope that this Sam & Max game comes out! -

Re:UndergroundThere are actually quite a few "pretty damn good" underground adventures, although admittedly the bulk is garbage. Out of Order was going to be sold commercially, and there's titles such as Pleughburgh and Odyseuss Kent. Tierra are using the same software to spruce up old Sierra titles, and are doing an excellent job too.
Non-commercial doesn't automatically mean crappy, as games and mods like WolfET, Counter-Strike and Natural Selection have shown.
