Re:Nothing.
I was just about to post this. Of course knowing how Microsoft operates, they'll try to sue Mozilla anyway as part of their Embrace, Extend, and then Extinguish philosophy. (On the other hand, they didn't try to use their NCSA Mosaic patents to kill-off Netscape Navigator, so maybe they'll behave.)
(ponder). My dialup service is Netscape. I wonder if that means it will now become part of Microsoft, or will it remain part of AOL. (reads article). Never mind. AOL is keeping the ISP http://www.getnetscape.com/

Re:And, in other news...
>>>The designer of NT came from a VMS background but NT was not based on VMS [or OS/2] code.
FTFY. And Netscape's designers came from their previous creation Mosaic for Amiga, Mac, and PC, but Netscape was not based on Mosaic code. Many moons later the Mozilla Suite spun-off from the never-released Netscape 5, and eventually became Seamonkey, but lo the users were not happy with Seamonkey's bloat, so they split-off the browser half and called it Firefox. And it was good.
Thus spake the book of mozilla. (Meanwhile I continue to believe Internet Explorer never actually existed, despite claims that it was released with Windows 95 Service Pack 1.) (And netscape devolved to a low-end dialup service: http://www.getnetscape.com/ )

Re:Reclaim Some?
What do you call these then? They look like ISPs to me:

Re:Awesome..
Try http://www.getnetscape.com/ to see if they have any local numbers

Re:What would you do?
>>>Netscape? They pretty well killed that brand off years ago.
Nope. Netscape's portal page still exists (see below). It costs me $7 a month for accelerated dialup access. The actual browser was only discontinued two years ago (March 2008).

Re:Pftt
>>>what the fuck is a netscape ISP? Is someone actually still giving free dialup out?
I'm sorry, but was this really that difficult to figure out? If I said "AOL ISP" or "Earthlink ISP", would you be confused what I meant? Then neither should you be confused when I say "Netscape ISP". It's self-explanatory. - And no it's not free. It's what I use when I'm bouncing from hotel-to-hotel room, and therefore don't have access to my home DSL service:

Re:Why wait?
I use dialup and can access youtube videos, bittorrent the latest Stargate episodes, download pics, and so on. The only thing I can't do is access streaming video sites like NBC.com, since they require minimum 192k connections, but everything else works just fine. Even flash-heavy sites like imdb.com
One advantage I probably have over your connection is I use Netscape ISP. It uses on-the-fly image, text, and flash compression to speed things up. You providerr may not have it, so consider an upgrade: http://www.getnetscape.com/ I hooked-up my friend's father with this, and now his Dialup is faster than ever.

Re:OS Change
>>>>> When I'm using my computer, I don't want to spend time fiddling with the OS

>>That's one of the reasons I use Linux. It just works.Challenge - Connect to this ISP (with webaccelerator) on a Linux machine. I tried and tried and tried and could not get it to work on my Ubuntu Linux laptop, and it's kinda crucial since many places I travel have no other internet access - http://www.getnetscape.com/getnetscape/?
I also had problems getting my Atari Stella and NESticle emulators to work properly (they ran but only played 1/3 of the games). Plus when I tried to use VLC Media Player to open some songs, rather than play one song at a time as you'd logically expect, Ubuntu tried to open 100 copes of VLC at the same time. My ancient Amiga OS 1.0 had the same stupid flaw. What is this? 1985?
I was forced to yank the battery of my laptop to rescue it. Linux doesn't "just work".

Netscape Internet
Maybe it has to do with offering Netscape Internet to users. getnetscape.com I'm not sure but netscape has a "download accelator", might only work with netscape?

Distribution of SP2?
I have yet to get a virus through sp2 IE.
How did you get a copy of SP2? I know a lot of users who would have to buy the CD online, for under $10 shipped to most locations. "I have broadband" is not a good answer; residents of many parts of the United States would have to move house in order to get cable or DSL, and even where it is available, broadband is still much more expensive than Netzero or Netscape dial-up for people whose Internet use is limited primarily to web and e-mail.

I thought they were re-branding themselves."Netscape is building Netscape 8 "
I thought they were rebranding themselves as an ISP. In fact I thought it was kind of a neat idea. Play off a respected name that has been out of the market long enough to be less than familiar. Oh well

Re:AOL's too expensive
Um they have Netscape ISP $9.95/month
-
More than meets the eye?

Re:Maybe...
They already did that. It's called Netscape Internet Service.
