Re:Could learn from Psion
The Yopy is almost there. It's already a small device with good battery life, a keyboard and it runs Linux so you know the API is open. The only thing we're waiting for is wireless.
There's supposed to be a CDMA snap-on for it, (or possibly GSM) but nothing has been forthcoming yet. It will also be able to double as a cell phone when the add-on is released. It makes a great PDA / mini-pc right now at any rate. -
Existing Projects...
So far I has seen two existing projects for HUDs.
First was that one in those IBM commercials. How damn annoying would it be to have to control it by voice, even better, how damn annoying would it be to be around someone with that.
Gmate (makers of the Yopy) have had a wearable PC projects for awhile.
This may be an interesting and related read, but i dont have the time to read it.
The problem of all these are they are too damn big and geeky. -
Rather get a YOPY
the YOPY gmate.com is way cooler and it offers a developers toolkit. You can compile you favorite Linux apps on it
:), and it plays doom!! -
Re:Yopy is still out there...The are even taking orders and claim that shipping is scheduled begin on Dec 21, 2001... I didn't see any mention on the site on whether it was shipping or not.
Good to see that g.mate is continuing with it... If they where canceling it.. purchasers of the developer model would be really mad for wasting $700 on a dead product.

Korean Linux PDA and Apps
Some of you might already have heard of it, but there is a Linux-based PDA which has just been released in Korea. It's called 'Yopy' and is based on Intel StrongARM and 'X WINDOW SYSTEM,' which means it should provide more compatibility to established Linux software base.
Yopy information here
For those who want to stick to Zaurus, a full-fledged office suite is being developed by Hancom targeted for Zaurus platform(I've been to a demo session last December). Quick summaries are on their website. -
What We Really need !
What We Really need is a blank device. A simple small mp3player sized device, that is built to be hacked! A build it yourself MP3 player. And if it had a Crusoe processor it would really rock. but for now I will just wait for the Yopy to come out next month.

W? X? Y?
I think you missed the handout where YOPY switched to X11 instead of W.
Well, so did the G.Mate webmaster. -
