I think the Linux car gave it a good Unix style first run. If it was a Windows car, The steering wheel would have frozen, the car would have taken off in the wrong direction for a while, everything would stop moving and you would left stuck unable to get out or turn it off.
The Weekly World News as produced Photographic proof of the Ark years ago. Oddly enough it was found on the Moon! Just goes to show the mysteries and wonders of the God Yahweh.
Nothing like indisputable photographic evidence to perpetuate the dangerous modern myth called Christianity.
How much has Linux Offered?? Hello! Think about it, They have offered everything! Free now, free later take all you want, displace $500 billion in proprietary software if you want no problem, its still free, while your there take a little more, no problem, want some more ? sure help yourself.
You Really should look at the TOC of your Starbucks coffee, using an opensource coffee solution like Bunn, or Cuisinart will both drastically reduce your TOC as well as give you a lot more control over your coffee allowing you to better meet the needs of your employees. Follow the lead of companies like Telstra, and IBM who are rolling out ten's of thousands of Linux Desktops in their companies.
[snip] Ever since the dawn of powered flight, it has been necessary for all aircraft to carry onboard fuel - whether in the form of batteries, fuel, solar cells...... [/snip]
NASA used a Photovoltaic Material that works reactive to a laser in place of Sunlight. This new technology will allow our Armies of Solar Powered Aircraft to be free from there reliance on using the unreliable sun as a powersource. The Benefits of this technology are as follows:
1.Cost Efficient electricity can be used to power the lasers instead of expensive and hard to find Sunlight.
2.Clear Aluminum will be used as an aerospace industry standard to prevent air traffic from blocking each others lasers feeds.(Clear Aluminum is cool)
3.No Longer will the Range of Solar powered aircraft be limited buy the range of the Daylight Sun. now they can fly as far a the Eye can see. (with the exceptions of trees and cell towers )
I don't use it. But I did for a short while at my old job. I think it comes down to a few neat things. Calendar (Network-group Viewable), Palm sync, Address books on server, and real-time Inbox.
It honestly does offer some nice bells and whistles over pop3.And manager love to play with their calendars for hours a day to look like they are working(Actually they seem to honestly believe they are doing a very important task). But I don't care! My first act as IT Manager was to Rip out the Exchange server and use Qmail:) and uninstall Outlook, and install Netscape Mail.
The Users learned to live with it. They can use http://calendar.netscape.com/ when they need to.
Getting the users off of Outlook was the first step to adjusting them to the planned Linux thin-client migration scheduled for 2005.
Until then windows 98 and Netscape for the whole lot. Mwahhahhahhaaa !!
"much is still unknown about the hydrogen cycle"
Seems like "much is also not known about the Ozone Cycle as well!!"
The "Ozone Layer" is a by-product of O2 (oxygen) getting split, and the single O1 attaching to a near by O2 making O3 (Ozone), it's the action of splitting the O2 (Oxygen) that blocks the UV Radiation. Ozone??, not Ozone its the oxygen that matters.
6 months darkness over the poles = Hole in Ozone (no sun smashing Oxygen, no Ozone), when will people stop confusing Media scare tactics with Science?
WE LOVE MICROSOFT!!! quick buy all the dot net books we can. Perhaps a landslide of booksales can give false signals to the industry and make people believe that for some dumb reason we all want to flog M$'s.NET dead horse! While we're at it lets all buy Windows longhorn and install it on our Linux systems. This will be great! Gosh I sure am glad Slashdot converted me from Linux to M$ Windows, running a fast stable OS was a threat to my job security.
If Internet voting is ever implemented I will just stop voting. Because not only will it be too damn easy to fix the election. But afterwards the party in power can come after its enemies. Some times the old fashion way is better. Give me a booth and a #2 pencil thank you very much
Microsoft would never want to own a company with a GPL business model, If for no other reason then to just save face. I know your thinking that M$ could do its hostile takeover then un-GPL further versions "ala Tux Racer". But not if Macromedia started a non-profit group independent of macromedia that managed the "core" of all their GPL applications,( A Mozilla, Netscape relationship with more legal separation).
Perhaps a GPL is to unrestrictive. I'm sure one or two small changes would make it fit into an OpenSource Business Model that Macromedia could Profit from.
Macromedias code could be further held close to its chest by the fact that its likely difficult to compile and not a simple./configure && make && make install, similar to Cinelerra, and OpenOffice and how its just easier to download the binary.
Rant Done... good by.
The best thing to do when you don't understand the technology is ask a geek friend to help you shop. Since they keep all the details of how Speedstep works hidden on the Internet it might be hard for most non insiders to figure out that PowerNow is a must have for modern laptops and SpeedStep is a stupid hack. A friend of mine who cracks into CIA and FBI type stuff found a top secret information search tool called http://google.com . you better write the URL down, I don't know how long the government will allow this post to stay up.
It's much easier to build and copy your ramdisk on the floppy to test it and its apps before burning a bootable CD.
Floppies are cheap or free and just the right size, to store your favorite Enlightenment and Gtk theme. untill I can buy a 3.5 inch scratch proof Re-write 200x150x400 BlueLight CDROM for $50 and media for $0.10, I'll stick with my floppies. [ No, I Dont think floppies compaire to my "Dream Drive" but wouldn't it be cool to have one, and it would fit in your shit pocket;P ]
There is an improved (GPL)Version Control System it is just not released yet. *VS started as patches that were refused by CVS because the changes were to radical. It has grown from that code. I am not the developer of this black book project, but http://undeadlinux.com [EvilEntity Linux] will be one of the first beta tester outside of its current enviroment. *VS is used in full production, in a large programing shop. Since the project is not released I cannot speak the name as I don't want to steal their thunder, You'll know about it when it comes out!. So everyone can stay calm something better is comming down the pipe. From what I'm told, It will be out soon ???
And I Choose not to use United Linux. If they do not violate the GPL then don't complain. This strategy may put more Linux Computers in the corporate environment, Or it may just put all United Linux companies out of business. What-ever, Linux will survive, Open Source will prosper. And the Best OS will win in the end. Personally I'm glad there are less Linux platforms out there, it makes it easier for me and my distro of choice EvilEntity One of the only Linux Distributions that sticks to the UNIX standards.
I am currently migrating a company 80+ users [150 employees] from 100% M$ to Linux. I think the tactics depends on the industry. I am working for a manufacturing company. The process is different then say , a law office. the first thing I did was bring in a linux. I have been able to easily manage the T1 for security, block inappropriate sites, and watch usage and traffic with Zero downtime:). Yesterday our new server came in a Dual Athlon 360gig Raid5 monster! I will now integrate all the M$ servers, but one to this single server. Third step is to switch the ERP system.. and here is where the trick comes in. We will get a new ERP system that runs a java client instead of a M$ client. that will leave the desktops only needing M$Office. to conduct business. we will have to look at Code Weavers CrossOver plugin and at Staroffice6.0 and see which is the better solution. when switching to Linux on the desktop we will of course go Thin client. this will dramatically cut administration cost. and save allot of man power. In the engineering department we will be going to linux and ProE. YES ProE for Linux!! ProE for linux will be release at the end of this year. We will run redhat with acceleratedX drivers. just to keep it simple. (I don't think Xfree86 ever has full FireGL support any how). and then we are done
Its price versus Reliability for heavy usage. Speed is about the same and with raid 5 if one of the WD drives fail its no big deal. Its a Tyan MPX, Dual Athlon 1800+ MP's, 512 DDR, 2 Intel nics, tnt2 video(cheapest they had), 560watt gold connect Enermax PS ($180), promise sx6000 raid card. All for $2200 plus $150 for Mandrake 8.2. I'm sorry our new server Kicks ASS. Try doing that with SCSI for anywhere near that price. !!!!! 360 GIG !!!!!!
"Who would want to put production systems at risk by having critical code
installed automatically" .. Only an Fool!!
The Idea of a PacKaGe expiration is to have your system send you a
notice if aPacKaGe has reached a predefined age. Its just a reminder
to say hey, "don't forget about me!" Downloading, testing and installing thePacKaGe is still up
to you. Auto-updating software is a M$ thing not a Linux thing.
The attentive sysadmin probably does not need this, but a busy home user,
or a quiet server in the corner could benefit from turning this feature on.
I don't like the idea of my system going out and connection to some server
on its own to look for a newer version, and I feel a simple reminder allows
you to maintain full secure control of your system while, helping to simplify
the upgrade and maintenance process. And people who don't like it don't'
have to turn it on.
It is a measure of distance or degradation in an timeless universe.
