Your first point is 100% wrong. You do not need an executable file to get infected. A little over a month ago, a zero-day exploit did not even require a Word document to have macros enabled to get you infected.

I remember of PDF files that could have you pwned. I remember of Flash files that could get you pwned. All this by opening not-executable files using a supposedly safe executable file.

I say that ANYTHING looking even a little fishy should raise suspicion. As much as humanly possible, when you receive an unexpected file, confirm with a phone call or a reply to the known email address of the sender.

Survey after survey after survey shows that older generations care more about their privacy.

Yet older people are more likely to see Snowden as a criminal, and less likely to believe that it is wrong for the NSA to monitor our email and phone calls.

It's kids, who think that talking to corporate electronic systems is normal and have no sense of electronic privacy.

It does in fact seem related to a generation gap. Survey after survey after survey shows that older generations care more about their privacy. The younger generations have grown up in a world without it. In the only world they've ever known, every action they take, every word they write, everything they buy, every web page they visit, everywhere they go in the real world, who their friends are, the minutia of their sexuality, their health problems, it is all cataloged and will follow them throughout their lives. It starts from before they are too early to even be aware of it. It's simply the background of their lives, in a way it's not for those of us who grew up before the surveillance culture.

That's why I don't think anything can stop it. These things are a matter of cultural acceptance, and it is now culturally expected that to be alive is to be under constant, moment to moment surveillance by both big business and big government. In a way, the population has been trained by big business to think that privacy is abnormal. I don't think that cat is going back into the bag again.
