Re: Bitcoin? No. Tulip bulbs for big profit!
Get your [bitcoin] orders in now before it's too late and you miss out on the investment of a lifetime!
Yup exactly. Had you bought $10,000 worth of BC in January you'd be looking at around $160,000 now. Sell $100,000 to lock your profit in and you've increased your investment 10 fold and still have a significant BC holding in case it goes even higher. How was that not the investment opportunity of your lifetime. But all you did was moan "this is tulip bulbs." Too clever by half, loser.
Anyway, all the smart money is moving to block-chain collectables. Capitalism
... don't you just love it? -
Re:I'm into crypto-currencies
Watch out for the bitcoin bomb
How long have they said that? Yet BC never stops rising. Yesterdays people see it as a 'bubble': It was supposed to have popped once BC reached $5000, once it reached $7500, once it reached $10000
,,, The reality is that BC is still finding its true price. It looks like it won't move much above $15000, so buy in now if you want to make anything out if this at all. Seriously this was the chance of your lifetime ... and you missed out. At least salvage something.Alternatively if you want to make real money out of the emerging blockchain technology get in quick

Long time coming if trueThe Daily Mail is a horrible news source. Veracity and adherence to truth are unimportant factors when they run a story. If the facts don't match the headline / narrative they're pushing they'll be buried right at the bottom of the article to minimize the chance of anyone seeing them.
The Mail's perpetual campaign to declare things that cause or cure cancer (or both) is a long running joke demonstrating a willful disregard for accurate reporting. More seriously their campaigns against immigrants, Europe and other things designed to push buttons in their mitte England readers are simply malign.
And that's assuming there are any facts. e.g. the Mail loves stories about snipers killing evil ISIS members who are about to slaughter innocents.
They just quote unnamed "sources" and that make shit up. Wikipedia already bans citations from certain sources, and it's understandable if that extends to certain "news" sites.

The Vertical Web
http://nodemy-ghost.herokuapp....
Saturated industries often consolidate for vertical integration. Large companies buy smaller competitors, and they also purchase their vertical supply chain to reduce costs and manage dependencies. A classic example is the American car industry, which went from 1500 companies to today's Big Three (and the occasional glitch like Tesla).
If the IT industry is post-inflective, then vertical integration might be happening. This spreadsheet defines the "Vertical Web" as power production, data centers, etc, up to consumer devices and software.
If a mature industry can support three or four major players, ther are some interesting predictions:
Twitter is a natural acquisition target for a couple of the stronger players.
Twitter will not be one of the Big Three (or Four).
Yahoo is a weak player, despite its industry longevity.
Facebook or Amazon will probably emerge as the fourth player, and the loser will be absorbed or parted out. One of the top three may stumble but it seems unlikely at this point. Facebook is the newest and least experienced company.
The Big Three (or Four) will eventually do significant layoffs. If you're a current employee and relatively young, you should think about when this might occur.

Proxy server already down.
The website mentioned in the summary, https://tmobileunlimited.herokuapp.com/, is still up but simply says "No such app". Seems he already took the proxy down.

Most importantly: rewrite the book how you want
Someone made a web thing so you can erase the old text and put in your own. I did one. I think it significantly improves on the original page.

Hack This Barbie...If you haven't seen this yet, you can er, "help" fix the book by adding your own captions here.
Great fun for while you're waiting on the build server.

Re:2013 Antarctic sea ice hit 35-year record high
But... but.. but the Daily Mail website told me that looking at actual trends would give me cancer!

Waiting for Congress to realize that they're
also evil.
The layoff wasn't much of a surprise.
I've been expecting it for a few years and I expect that Apple and Google will follow suit,
just not sure of the timeframe. They're all engaged in verticalizing their information
equivalent of a supply chain, i.e. an indicator of saturating markets. -
Re:The real worry
here's some numbers and quantified conjecture.
the MSFT layoffs were a complete non-surprise to me and I expect to see something similar from Yahoo, Apple and Google, not sure of the timing, though.http://nodemy-ghost.herokuapp....
Information has finite value.

Re:I use my own reader
Same here, I build my own reader in Python and MongoDB, some years ago fact. And now it is running on Heroku (but with a PostgreSQL) dabase: https://pyaggr3g470r.herokuapp.... Quite simple, but I can manage more than 100,000 news with my local installation. And I am using Whoosh to index the content of the news.

Re:Looking for a good usenet newsreader.
It is by pull request only, so you have to be able to program Node.js in order to become a user.
No discussions yet, only user submitted links.

Gentoo - LinuxMint at home; CloudBioLinux on EC2
Slackware -> Gentoo for many years -> Gentoo + Ubuntu -> LinuxMint
Gentoo+Fluxbox configuration is still my favorite, but I've lost interest in keeping it up, so I've migrated to LinuxMint Cinnamon for my linux desktops and laptops now. The Amazon AMIs I use are based on CloudBioLinux
CloudBioLinux
http://cloudbiolinux.org/which is Debian, although I don't really notice. BioCloudCentral is a great tool for launching CloudBioLinux instances

Very nice. A friend of mine just wrote an easy to use cloud app that does many of these steps automatically. Free yourself from GoDaddy!
