Re:Shutter speed
Four Thirds lenses do start decreasing in resolution after f/5.6, but they are not "diffraction-limited" by f/5.6, not if by that you mean "they perform at the diffraction limit there and beyond" (although maybe diffraction is the main cause of decreased performance). I actually calculated some data on his from dpreview's tests of the Olympus Zuiko Digital 50/2 macro lens, which I own (I had to convert their numbers to lp/mm, of which here are the results):
Olympus Zuiko Digital Macro 50mm f/2
f/stop (4x5 equiv) -- resolution -- theoretical diffraction limit -- % Diffraction Limit
f/2 (f/14.2) -- 92 lp/mm -- 750 lp/mm -- 12%
f/2.8 (f/20) -- 112 lp/mm -- 536 lp/mm -- 21%
f/3.3 (f/23) -- 119 lp/mm -- 455 lp/mm -- 26%
f/5.6 (f/40) -- 116 lp/mm -- 268 lp/mm -- 43%
f/8 (f/57) -- 105 lp/mm -- 188 lp/mm -- 56%
f/9 (f/64) -- 96 lp/mm -- 167 lp/mm -- 57%
f/11 (f/78) -- 87 lp/mm -- 136 lp/mm -- 64%
f/16 (f/114) -- 72 lp/mm -- 94 lp/mm -- 77%
f/22 (f/156) -- 54 lp/mm -- 68 lp/mm -- 79%some similar large format lenses for which there is data (I've averaged the results for center, middle, and midline): http://www.hevanet.com/cperez/testing.html/
Schneider G-Claron 305mm f/9 (equivalent to 43mm f/1.3 in 4/3rds for AOV and DOF)
f/stop (4/3rds equiv) -- resolution -- theoretical diffraction limit -- % Diffraction Limit
f/16 (f/2.3) -- 63 lp/mm -- 94 lp/mm -- 67%
f/22 (f/3.1) -- 55 lp/mm -- 68 lp/mm -- 81%Fuji C-Series 450mm f/12.5 (equivalent to 63mm f/1.8 in 4/3rds for AOV and DOF)
f/stop (4/3rds equiv) -- resolution -- theoretical diffraction limit -- % Diffraction Limit
f/12.5 (f/1.8) -- 40 lp/mm -- 120 lp/mm -- 33%
f/16 (f/2.3) -- 43 lp/mm -- 94 lp/mm -- 46%
f/22 (f/3.1) -- 43 lp/mm -- 68 lp/mm -- 63%
f/32 (f/4.5) -- 41 lp/mm -- 47 lp/mm -- 87%Some interesting things worth nothing:
(1) By f/22, 4x5 lenses can perform as well as 4/3rds lenses at f/22. Look at other lenses in the link I provided, some of them are getting around 50-55 lp/mm at f/22.
(2) However, at f/22, large-format lenses that may be performing at 63-81% of the theoretic diffraction limit are equivalent to f/3.1 on 4/3rds in terms of DOF. Around there, 4/3rds lenses are getting 21-26% of the theoretical diffraction limit (actually, not all 4/3rds lenses...the Oly 50/2 is one of the sharpest lenses ever made).
(3) For portraiture work at f/2 on Olympus and assuming 5 lp/mm is desired for final print sharpness, the Olympus 50/2 can produce an enlargement of 92/5 = 18.4x enlargement over the 17.3 x 13.0 mm sensor size, for final prints of 9.4 x 12.5 inches. This is about on par with my experience of what Olympus can produce.
(4) For portraiture work at f/16, which has equivalent DOF using the same composition as f/2 in 4/3rds, using say the 305/9 G-Claron, you can produce an enlargement of 63/5 = 12.6x over the 3.75 x 4.75 in film area (the edges are unusable due to the loading notches) for final prints of 47 x 60 inches! Now, granted, you'd need a lot accessory light for this. Also, most people don't blow portraits up that large, but even if not, you'd still have a much greater tonality and smoothness. (and if the pictures were too sharp, you'd have plenty of room to do some blurring to eliminate unwanted facial detail and provide a smoother image instead).
(5) If you want to shoot with less intense light, there are the Xenotar 150/2.8 and 135/3.5. The Voightlander Apo Lanthar 300/4.5 has a longer focal length and some may prefer it for portraiture -- but its $5,900 on eBay right now (and it covers up to 8x10, so may not be sharp enough for 4x5)! In any event, assuming my Xenotar 135/3.5 for portraiture work wide open, it gets 20 lp/mm at the center wide open and 10 lp/mm at the edge for 15 on average. That's an enlargement of 3x over 4x5 for final print sizes of 12x15. Somewhat larger than 4/3rds and much mu

Re:Sorry, still somewhat lame
There is nothing wrong with comparing different formats. There are things that you can do with a large-format 4x5 that you still can't even get close to doing with a full-frame DSLR, nor even really with a medium-format digital camera. But of course there are advantages for digital too.
There is really no direct comparison between 4x5 film and a scanner-back. The scanner back requires a much longer exposure, it is not a sensor. For something very static, it would work fine.
A 4x5in piece of film, assuming that 3.75x4.75in of it is usable, has 17.8125 sqin of area. A 36x24mm (1.42x0.94in) digital sensor has 1.3392 sqin of area. That's 13.3x the area and 3.55x the diagonal.
Many lenses for 4x5 will resolve close to the diffraction-limit (1600/32 = 50 lp/mm) at f/32*, maybe they'll resolve ~46 lp/mm, or 92% of the theoretical diffraction limit). f/32 on 4x5 is equivalent to f/9 on 35mm film (in terms of DoF at an equivalent angle of view & distance from subject, i.e., same framing). To match the resolution of 4x5, you'd need to have to come achieve 92% of the diffraction limit of 178 lp/mm at f/9: 164 lp/mm.
My Olympus ZD 50/2 macro lens, one of the sharpest lenses ever made, resolves "only" 123 lp/mm at f/4 (31% of the maximum theoretical diffraction limit). At f/9, it resolves 96 lp/mm (54% of the theoretical diffraction limit). Good luck finding a lens that resolves 164 lp/mm at f/9 and that is suitable for general-purpose use.

Re:The web-application-forever-trend?
wah wah wah
Are you REALLY that clueless as to WHY they are doing it?
Here is a little hint for you: NOBODY BUT COMPUTER TECHIES KNOW WHAT A CLIENT IS, NEVERMIND A RICH ONE. (they will probably think of the price of it)
Everybody with a computer knows how to get on the web, everybody with that knows how to get to websites, therefore the developers all flock to browsers.
SIMPLE NOW, ISN'T IT? GOLLY GEE WHIZ THAT WAS SO HARD TO COMPREHEND.All you people who whine all the time about the web evolving to suit the needs of the developers need to grow a fucking brain, let go of the past already!
You will never get your rich client, the browser will continue to evolve as the developers need it, plain and simple.
That is unless schools begin teaching kids about computers more in-depth, and to be honest, that is just "+5 Funny" material. Some new additions likely to be added is more GUI control similar to the likes of XUL. (Open in Gecko-based browser to see)
Next big thing after that will be creating a (new) standard for 3D.
And better communication between servers and other clients, perhaps some sort of limited server on the client-end similar to what is in Opera Unite.Sorry to be a bit of a dick about it, but if you couldn't see such a simple reason, then god help you.

Wrong. Try this in Firefox:
http://www.hevanet.com/acorbin/xul/top.xulI tried it. It works, but is horribly slow to scroll. And would likely be horrible to use too, due to the sheer amount of buttons.
Don't make rich UIs, make usable UIs. Keep it simple, stupid !

I tried it in Not Firefox. Nothing happened. See the difference between that and Ajax?

As far as I can tell you always had to download and approve XUL code before it could run, and sometime requires you to reboot your browser.

Re:XULRunner future.
XUL is very good RAD tool. Much.. much much better than HTML.
I would classify XUL as a good GUI development tool. It's rapidity is quickly lost if one delves into any XPCOM backends.
However, for simple, client side, frontend GUI operations, XUL is a very, very useful tool. It gives you the ability of DHTML in a way that isn't a hack.
Here's a good example of XUL's layout capabilities. IN terms of pure layout, there not really that much here that is different from HTML. However when you get dynamic, XUL really shines. People go on about AJAX, but XUL offers a huge amount of potential.
Personally, I feels XUL's only achilles heel is javascript. That language needs a serious overhawl if anyone is to be able to use it without all that hassle.
As a GUI application development tool, I would expect XUL and XAML to replace older methods such as GTK and *shudder* Windows "Visual" code. It's faster, cleaner, makes more sense, and you don't need 300 lines of code plus libraries to draw a hello world window. -
Re:Ditch Javascript
XUL is powerful. Go here for a taste of how easy it's markup can be.
However, XUL's logic is based on Javascript, and this needs a serious overhaul. Javascript is powerful in some respects, but has serious failings as anything other than a supplementary language.
If XUL can improve javascript or use a different language altogether, I think we'll begin to see more high quality web applications written in it. -
Re:i'm all for webapps
Check out XUL. It is good enough to write a browser, Jabber client, or complete bookshop.
Check out some of the UI functionality here. -
What's conservative? Crime? Debt? Lying? Violence?
I agree with the sense of what you said. However, I think it is not useful to use the terms "liberal" and "conservative". They no longer have significant meaning because those who want government corruption have been pretending that they have a legitimate political view, and calling that view "conservative".
Check out the government debt to see who is conserving the quality of government. The Bush administration is borrowing more money than any entity has borrowed in the history of the world.
Is dishonesty and violence "conservative"?
Is breaking the law "conservative"? Bush and Cheney are the most arrested U.S. president and vice-president in history. George W. Bush was arrested once for the crime of DUI and Dick Cheney twice:
George W. Bush DUI, 1st record of arrest
George W. Bush DUI, 2nd record of arrest
George W. Bush was arrested 2 other times in his life, also, for stunts that were not something a sober person would find interesting.
Dick Cheney DUI, record of 1st arrest
Dick Cheney DUI, record of 2nd arrest

Re:Windows Server 2003 is the new Windows 2000
Windows XP isn't such an advance over Windows 2000 or even 98. Windows XP is a definite step backward. Microsoft illustrates all the bad benefits of a Monopoly. Ideally there is such a thing as a good Monopoly and Microsoft is neither.
This website illustrates the problems with Windows and Windows XP. http://www.hevanet.com/peace/microsoft.htm
Microsoft added product activation to XP. Windows Activation is really bad and inconvenient. It sucks and it would make a really good Linux feature (that is if your Beavis and Butthead. heeh heeh ehhh). Activation prevents a hard drive from being moved and forces users to provide users to provide there telephone number and such to even use software. And there are consequences if you don't activate Windows XP. This is analogous to buying a Ford which if you don't register breaks down after 30 days or 100 miles whichever is sooner unless you activate your car with Ford.
The website also states that "Windows 98 can copy all of its own files, Windows XP cannot. The Windows XP file system is artificially crippled; it cannot copy some of its own system files. This makes it difficult to make functional backups. Microsoft apparently uses this crippling as copy protection." This is to prevent users from copying Windows to different computers.

Re:Not reallyThe republicans had NOTHING to do with balancing this. Poppa Bush did, but not the republican party. Bush and Greenspan had cut a deal saying that that Greenspan would take care of the economy and Bush would do balancing the budget. When Clinton came into office, he made the same deal with Greenspan and continued work on balancing it.
As to the fallacy that the republican party cares about the deficit, well, here is the record. That is not to say that the democrats care. If they did, then they would have put pressure on GWB to continue with a balance budgeting. Instead, as the budget approached zero deficit, they pushed to increase spending, while the republicans pushed to cut taxes. The graph says it all.
As to losing congress, that was a multi-year campaign

General corruption of the U.S. government
This is just part of the general corruption of the U.S. government.
From the article: Free expression and First Amendment rights are the real target of this legislation," declared Rep. Bernie Sanders (Ind-Vt.) during the debate over the bill. "This is not what America is about."
A better description is that the real target is anyone who might say things that are not accepted by those who control the government.
Also, large fines for using negative words gets votes from those who think they are superior because of their religion. Such people and their anger are easily manipulated.
The government is being sold to anyone who has the money. Huge amounts of money are being borrowed and transferred to the pockets of those in power. The U.S. government is now far more in debt than ever before: Debt Clock. If you are a U.S. citizen, you are expected to pay. Those who want corruption in the U.S. government want the government to borrow. The corrupters find ways to transfer the money to their pockets.
The origin of the present problems was in the 40s and 50s, when U.S. government leaders made two decisions. It is likely that those in power then did not understand that their decisions would eventually corrupt the entire government. At the time, the decisions seemed logical.
First, the government decided that it could act in other countries in secret. Second, the U.S. government decided it could act in secret to protect U.S. businesses in other countries.
What probably no one realized then was how much that would come to be a corrupting influence on the government. Probably no one realized then how much additional profit big multinational businesses could make by arranging, in secret, for U.S. taxpayers to pay for the security arrangements needed by U.S. multinational businesses.
Soon huge businesses were arguing that the U.S. government should subvert democratically elected leaders, as the government did in Iran in the 70s. Soon U.S. businesses would arrange unfair contracts with corrupt leaders, and when there was a protest, call for U.S. government intervention in the name of patriotism.
That's partly how we got to the present situation, where two men, whose family and business associates and friends have extensive investments in global oil businesses, are president and vice-president of the entire U.S. government, even though there is conflict of interest in such an arrangement. -
Conflict of Interest:
Conflict of Interest: Two men, whose family and business associates and friends have extensive investments in global oil businesses, are president and vice-president of the entire U.S. government.
Using dishonest means, these men convinced U.S. taxpayers to pay for killing people in Iraq. What has been accomplished there? The killing under Saddam was less than the killing under George Bush.
One thing that has been accomplished, however, is that the profit from oil contracts involving Iraq has been shifted from Saddam to U.S. companies. This was accomplished while minimizing the support for U.S. troops.
Visual Aid: Iraq Body Count Visual Aid. Many people can't look at this without becoming so overloaded that they become irrational.

The U.S. government has fought 24 wars since World War II. The system of violence works by creating fear so rich people can profit.
How to understand U.S. violence: For reasons beyond the scope of this comment, the mental illness called anger has been increasing in women in the United States. In general, men in the United States lack the social skills necessary to deal with this anger, so they do not provide a counter-balancing force. It is the general increase in anger and the general breakdown of U.S. society that has caused many people in the U.S. to look for outlets for their anger. Anger is easily re-directed by leaders with simplistic rationalizations that are presented as logical, and doing so has been quite profitable.
It is a characteristic of angry people that they don't think clearly. Another characteristic is that they look for ways to avoid knowing they are angry. Many people in the U.S. believe that they are superior people who should be allowed to kill because that is the only way of improving the world. -

Both Bush and Cheney show the classic symptoms.
You said, "It seems that there is always some uninformed person who posts comments to stories like this who doesn't understand the definition of "alcoholic".
Here is a guess: You are not an alcoholic. No one in your family is an alcoholic. You have no friends who are alcoholics.
Both George W. Bush and Dick Cheney show the classic symptoms of being alcoholics. Here's a little of the voluminous evidence: The psychological effects of alcoholism provide a framework for understanding the Bush administration. See the section titled, "Typical personality characteristics of a recovered alcoholic". There is an enormous amount of information that would lead to this view, but in not included here.
The point of the comment that started this thread is not that the CBS Bush documents are genuine. That does not matter. The point is that the evidence shows that Bush quit the ANG the same month the ANG started drug testing because he had a drug problem.
One Bush family member said that she had seen George using cocaine on the grounds of Camp David while his father was president. -
Should we have less freedom because of fear?
The fundamental issue here is not about map data, but whether we should allow ourselves to have less freedom because we fear terrorists.
Regarding this, it is valuable to educate ourselves about what we are fearing. Regarding that, it is valuable to know more about the activities of the U.S. government. Only a small percentage of U.S. citizens understand much about the involvement of the U.S. government with other countries. There is plenty of reliable information available, but learning more takes so much time most people haven't done it. Here is a small overview that I put together: History surrounding the U.S. war with Iraq: Four short stories. There may be other articles and books that are far more valuable to you, that article is just a contribution of mine.
Most U.S. citizens believe that the terrorists attacked without provocation. That is not true. The terrorists attacked after many decades of experiencing U.S. government violence. (Violence does not justify more violence, of course, but most people don't believe that, including the leaders of the U.S. Defense Department, and the terrorists.)
Am I saying that the U.S. government is a net evil force in the world? No. What has happened is that the government decided two things several decades ago. I'm sure those in power then did not understand that their decisions would eventually corrupt the entire government. At the time, the decisions seemed logical.
First, the government decided that it could act in other countries in secret. Second, the U.S. government decided it could act in secret to protect U.S. businesses in other countries.

XUL links
If you're just starting out with XUl, you may want to brish up on your JavaScript first. Although XUL itself is a rather straightforward markup language (albeit with many, many quirks), in order to make your app actually do anything, you'll need to write some JavaScript to control it. There are many, many Javascript resources out there, and I also recommend JavaScript: The Definitive Guide from O'Reilly.
Once you have that down, here are a few XUL sites I recommend:
Creating Application with Mozilla - Online version of O'Reilly's book. Great resource for beginners to follow through, but some of the examples no longer work due to changes in the APIs since the books release.
XUL Planet - An excellene resource for XUL developers of any level. This site contains a great tutorial for getting started and becoming familiar with the environment, as well as a definitive reference guide for XUL and XPCOM objects and functions.
XUL Planet Forum - This forum is also housed at the XUL Planet website, but it deserves separate mention. This is the only forum/newsgroup/list I've been able to find that's still active and populated with friendly and helpful souls. I've received helped there several times on problems I'd been working on for weeks or months.
There are also a few XUL-related newsgroups on mozilla's usenet server (eg, news://news.mozilla.org:563/netscape.public.dev.xu l), though not too many people use those groups anymore.
There's also Mozilla official XUL Programmer's Reference. This is a great reference resource, but it's not geared for beginners.
And finally, the mother of all example sites: http://www.hevanet.com/acorbin/xul/top.xul If you can't figure out how something work, this most likely has a working example.
Good luck! -
Re:Can they levy a tax on spammers?
Not only that, but his plan to "privatize" social security is founded on the same principles.
In short, he wants to phase in a system where part of your social security taxes go into a private account that you can choose how to invest, and the rest go to the general public fund.
So, what is going to happen is that the amount of money currently moving into the social security fund will drop, the money moving out will continue to rise with the number of people retiring and living longer. Things won't really even out until those who are 16 when the program is implemented retire. The only way to fix this gap is to raise taxes or cut spending elsewhere. Of course, Bush won't raise taxes or cut spending, so when finally get a president with the guts to do that, he'll be portrayed as a horrible person who wants to stick his hands in our pockets and rob us. When the real thief is the person that created the deficit in the first place.
I find it amazing that while telling us that "privatizing" social security is putting our money in our control, what it is really doing is the government is not only forcing me to pay for everyone else's well-being, they're forcing me to invest some of my own money.
I wonder if the government will only allow me to invest in funds they approve of and don't violate their morals.

Most media exists to make money. Advertisers are understandably careful not to alienate anyone. It is not possible to develop an accurate opinion of government activities only by listening to the carefully crafted phrases from media employees who would lose their jobs if they seemed to indicate a preference for one policy over another. Books are the major media that are not ad-supported. I recommend a new book, The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty. Don't expect any author to be perfect. However, this book is an excellent overview of the Bush family, and the best book by this author. Here is a quote which shows just one more fact about the chronic lying of George Herbert Walker Bush and his son George W. Bush: "The official family tree provided by the Bush archivists does not include the two mentally retarded daughters of John M. Walker, and lists only two of James Smith Bush's wives, not all four of them; one of Ray Walker's two wives is omitted, and George Herbert Walker III is listed with only two, instead of three, wives."

Did you see the network footage of George W. Bush holding hands with a Saudi man the Bush family knows as "Bandar Bush"? Since it was Saudis who attacked on 9/11, why did Bush invade Iraq? Was it a smokescreen to get attention away from the Saudis?

Bush is an improvement!!!
here is a short list: The U.S. government has bombed 24 countries since the Second World War.
During the Clinton Administration, the US bombed six nations: Afghanistan, Bosnia, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, and Yugoslavia.
Whereas Bush has bombed only two: Afghanistan and Iraq.
Europeans should be cheering for the re-election of the (relatively) peaceful George W. Bush!! -
Exactly right.
I'm an American who loves the United States, and I've read extensively about these issues. You are exactly correct. See The CIA trained Osama bin Laden and other Arabs in the techniques of terrorism.
Caution: There is no evidence that anyone from the CIA met bin Laden (and no evidence that they didn't). The entire idea of training people in Afghanistan to be terrorists was the CIA's, and the CIA provided for the training, but did not teach everyone directly. The CIA taught the teachers.
If training terrorists makes the CIA a terrorist organization, then the CIA is the biggest terrorist organization in the world, and makes al Qaeda look under-funded, under-staffed, under-educated, and poorly organized. -
Here's a short list:
"... an invasion (too many to list), a kidnapping (Panama), an assassination (Cuba), or a fake coup (Guatemala), you supported it."
You are exactly right, but very, very few Americans understand this.
Anyhow, here is a short list: The U.S. government has bombed 24 countries since the Second World War.

24 wars since WW II.
The U.S. government has engaged in 24 wars since WW2: The system of violence works by creating fear so rich people can profit.
The lack of respect for other countries has been going on for a long time. The present violence got started in the 1940s when the U.S. government passed laws that it could secretly meddle in the affairs of other countries, and do things that would otherwise be illegal. After that, everyone who wanted to increase their international profits wanted secret action, and many got it.

My best guess is that it would work fine.
Anger problem?
The question is, can two cheap power supplies be used in standard case? The question is NOT whether you can pay $2000 for special equipment.
Obviously both power supplies would be attached to the case with the standard screws. That would provide a hundreds amps worth of common ground connection. Obviously the black signal ground wires would need to be connected to each other with a small additional wire.
I am a real electronics design engineer. I can't think of any reason why this would not work. It would probably be necessary to shut off the power to the hard drives separately.
There would be a little common mode noise, however this is something that the signal ICs in the hard drives can handle.

Anger problem, and you didn't read the books.
You have an anger problem, which seems to be true of most Bush supporters. Bush supporters find it very easy to justify killing other people, and don't realize that some of those killed will have family members who will want to retaliate.
And, you didn't read the books.

U.S. government involvement does not help.
Whatever the problems in Israel, U.S. government involvement does not help, but makes things much, much worse.
U.S. government leaders have very unsophisticated understandings of other cultures. Here's an example of someone with a simplistic understanding: Senator Biden says the Saudi government cannot continue in power without U.S. government support.

Know what your government is doing: Read books.
MODERATORS: Whoever moderated the parent comment as Flamebait is not smart enough to be called ignorant, he is iggerunt.
The parent comment says, "Support for Israel may be the greatest cause of our problems." The king of Jordan says this is so. The foreign minister of Iran says this is so. (They were both interviewed on the Charlie Rose show.) Osama bin Laden said U.S. government support for Israeli violence was one of the two reasons he attacked the United States. (The other reason was U.S. government support for those who are against needed political change in Saudi Arabia.)
The U.S. government has been supporting the killing of Arabs for many years now by giving between 3.5 and 5 billion of your tax money to Israel, every year. There are only 14 million Jews in the entire world. There are only 4.8 million Jews in Israel. That money is about $1,000 for every man, woman, child, and baby in Israel who is Jewish, every year.
That money must be used to buy weapons made in the United States, at inflated prices. I seriously doubt that anyone who is in control of this policy has anything against Arabs or Jews, or even knows much about their cultures. It's government corruption, only that, not ideology.
To get votes from the millions of Jews in New York, Governor Pataki basically declared war on Arabs. To learn more about this, see the article, New York Governor Pataki's statements are equivalent to a declaration of war. Those who want power don't care how much damage they do.
Osama bin Laden says he wants a Muslim-religion-controlled political coalition. I've studied the matter for years, and I don't think there is much chance he can achieve that. The violent religious extremists in Muslim countries are not crazier than the violent religious extremists in the United States, however. The corruption caused by those who want weapons profits is supported by some of those who call themselves evangelicals. The evangelicals have an ugly plan that sounds to me like it might achieve a terrible goal. They want to kill all the Jews. They don't say that, of course. They don't take reponsibility for that. They say that their ancient books say that all the Jews will be killed or converted. Since there is slim chance that Jewish people would want to be evangelicals, or would be accepted by evangelicals, they are really saying that all the Jews will be killed. They are helping their prophecy by encouraging the 14 million Jews to get into bloody battles with the 1.1 billion Muslims. Experiment: Go into a very poor area of the U.S. and ask the next 10 street kids you see what they think the outcome of such battles will be. I will accept whatever they say.
Abba Eban, a respected Jewish leader, said that after World War II Jews were not welcome in Europe, even though they had suffered a lot. I agree with that. Some Jewish violent extremists believe that Jews must fight for their own land because they are not welcome elsewhere. That's not true, of course; Jews do very well in making contributions to New York. The weapons makers encourage the Jews in their worst impulses.

Those who support George W. Bush probably are not book readers. They cannot have seen these 3 movies and read these 35 books: Unprecedented Corruption: A guide to conflict of interest in the U.S. government.
Thinking about the presidential campaign has caused me to discover something I didn't know before. Most people have little idea of the activities of their government. Instead, they believe the sound bites.

Re:Democrat and Republican spending patterns
One thing to keep in mind is that the interest on that debt doesn't just disappear. It goes to the banks that loan the money to the country.
Don't think of it as building debt... think of it as a bailout for Citibank, Bank of America, and all those poor, suffering megabanks who would have lost their taxpayer-funded handouts if the Clinton-era trend had continued.
Not to mention the whole "starve the beast" strategy -- make debt service so expensive that those silly social programs will simply die from lack of funds.
The parent poster's graph link shows pretty conclusively who's really behind the national debt, doesn't it? -
