don't be naive
Brian, don't you know why Flash isn't included? Which tablet user would go buy stuff from iTMS or make Apple "partner" money with Youtube app if a complete browser (with flash) exists? Also check http://g.ho.st/ , with Flash and advanced HTML, it is even possible to run a virtual machine. What would happen to "app store" locks that time?
I know Gnash, sadly it is not "there" yet, if Adobe had little brain, they would support it and even adopt it. Of course, they are Adobe and they don't have the slightest clue about a full Flash 10 open source player means especially in eyes of industry.

Re:Maemo wins hands down
Has anybody tried http://g.ho.st/ in Maemo and Android?

Re:Sounds like g.ho.st
That's pretty weird. I've just had a play with it and I'm struggling to think what to do with it. What's particularly weird is that the desktop has a web browser. Why would you need a browser if you're already using a browser to view the desktop? Naturally, the first thing I did with it was go to http://g.ho.st/ and open a new guest account...

Re:Sounds like g.ho.st
Well G.ho.st allows email, IM, and live collaborative document editing via Zoho and Google Docs via the G.ho.st virtual machine. It also has an open API if you read the forums that developers can create additional communication centric applications.

Sounds like g.ho.st
I've dabbled with http://g.ho.st/ and it sounds similar. I've been impressed at how snappy g.ho.st is, so I would expect good things from Google, also.

Back up the Data Files to the Cloud
Ghost Virtual Machine gives 15gigs of Amazon.com data storage and right now if you use the promotion code of "launch" you get 10Gigs more as a bonus for 25Gigs. If you want to give me a referral my id is orion_blastar there, and each person you referred grants you 5Gigs more in a bonus.
Google Docs also has document storage but does not give as much as G.ho.st does. The Ghost Virtual Machine can access your Google Docs drive as well.
Here is a review of the top 5 online cloud storage sites so you can take your pick.
MyBloop offers unlimited free storage, but I am not 100% sure of that or their privacy policy.
Lifehacker talks about using your Yahoo Mail account for unlimited storage and also that Google's GMail almost offers the same service as well.

Re:And where exactly is moonlight?
I got a Powerbook 12" in use too, in fact 2 more G4s (Mini) and they are all fine with Flash, including video as long as the video is not HD. That HD problem is actually h264/system bus bandwidth and built in GPU problem. mplayer CAN play a lot of 720p content in fact because it is maniacally optimised/ ASM code.
My brother uses http://g.ho.st/ Flash based Virtual Machine on his 12" powerbook too. Of course, it is a bit slow but not torture.
Flash 10 didn't just continue to support PowerPC, they also multi core/CPU enabled it so dual G4/G5 quad G5 people will benefit.

Re:How long until...
Apple's issue with Flash has something to do with the potential of Flash, in hands of a real Developer. It can render App Store useless. Control is gone.
I speak about things like these
http://g.ho.st/
https://buzzword.acrobat.com/Flash Lite 3 is already distributed free (to developers) if you want to code an application for Symbian using Flash. Of course, Symbian has nothing to say about it.
Imagine entering a website which will stream music to you and offer mp3 downloads for a fee, all in web browser. That is the worst nightmare of Apple.

Re:3 apps is more than enough.
That is the one thing MS is afraid of. Pushing the IE, inventing Silverlight, trying to kill Java with
.NET are all done so the natural progress towards ''Internet as app suite, OS is just a bunch of drivers'' is slowed down.IMHO that was what made them so afraid about Netscape. We were supposed to have these things 5-6 years earlier if they didn't kill Netscape and started incompatible IE&ActiveX empire. Such ''Office in browser'' etc. things were slowly popping up on Netscape 4 before it got owned and killed by AOL.
Mozilla people had to start from strach and gain the corporate trust so things are just happening now.
Allthought it is not so complete, you can see a glimpse of future at http://g.ho.st/ , you will see all the technologies MS tries to kill in action together. That is what makes them really afraid.

Re:Imagine this...
Interesting is that thing you mention (except not being windows or linux) is done for end users and runs under Flash (soon AIR)
One can demo it and can see what you talk about. In fact, one can also understand where Flash and AIR is heading and the reason of Silverlight hurry of MS. Netscape had their death sentence right after showing off similar but early incarnations of such functionality.

Re:Sorry app rejected.
You can do amazing things with Quicktime. Issue is, Apple doesn't show what you can do while running it themselves. Their feature usage in their own "Trailers" which is one of top sites for average users is plain pathetic. Poor thing became a "click on 10 mbit movie link to launch iTunes" site and the entire technology is used to pass link to iTunes.
I am all for competition to Flash too but competition came from the worst company possible. They have no clue how things are actually done, why they are in desperate need to make a "quicktime component" for exporting, why their "So they will run Parallels to produce stuff" idea is so flawed.
MS doesn't understand how media industry works. That is the root of problem. There is a reason why Adobe spares millions of hours and dollars to Mac OS X/ Universal development.
I better show what makes MS so afraid of flash. Stuff like this: http://g.ho.st/ and people choosing Linux based things like Eee PC because they will get same media experience thanks to Flash plugin. Their "Lets bribe that IT manager to choose Windows Media" plan is horribly broken. They try again with Silverlight and claim multiplatform just because a Intel Mac only plugin is there.

Re:Flash sucks
Using Flash for video really have become really sad de facto standard (still better than idea of Silverlight).
Just check this site, can work with guest account. You must be using a current generation Mozilla/Webkit/IE and latest Flash
It will simply make you ask "So that technology being able to do this is wasted for bugging ads and embedded videos in style of 1994?"
Adobe should spotlight such stuff rather than those junk they advertise. I found about that site while randomly browsing Amazon S3 pages (it is powered by Amazon cloud).

Re:Prediction
There is already a running "OS inside browser" thanks to gigantic processing/bandwidth provided by Amazon services.
http://g.ho.st/ (warning flash haters: It is written in Flash)
For such usage, you automatically choose the minimum overhead, most secure and least maintanance needed OS. None of such features resemble Windows.
Let me tell what will happen if MS didn't take their lesson. They will require
.NET (something) and it will somehow best work (if not only) on IE.Another waste of millions or (if you count
.NET) billions of dollars trying to re-invent wheel in an evil way. -
Virtual Desktop
You also might want to open a free account on one of the web desktops such as http://G.ho.st, YouOS, or DesktopTwo. In this way you'd have all your documents, pictures and email incorporated and easily accessed from any place in the world. G.ho.st actually is giving out a free 3GB for emails and 3GB for data.
