Re:Here's your roundup
The RSX has no speed limiter. I have a race-prepped RSX Type-S. http://www.doubledgarage.com/?p=3812 I also have the "hacked/programmable" ECU for the RSX and there is no parameter for disabling the speed limiter (because there is none). http://www.hondata.com/kmanager.html

Re:Self Tuner
This has already been done by at least a dozen companies. Motec, Pectel, Hondata, DTA, TEC and a whole lot more. You can control everything in realtime and the higher end systems will also allow you to do much more esoteric things like traction control, launch control, turbo anti-lag schemes and others. The trouble with full programmable engine menagement is that it does not suffer the incompetent. There are LOTS and LOTS of parameters which depend on eachother, the entire system operates in realtime and you had better KNOW what you are doing and how they interact with eachother before you start fooling around with stuff. Getting it wrong can have catastrophic consequences; a simple mistake like not supplying enough fuel or adding too much ignition can and WILL cost your engine. So in short if you have the knowledge and the tools (wideband O2, lots of guages like EGT, fuel pressure etc etc) programmable engine management is the best thing since sliced bread. I have a Pectel T2 in my Focus and its great stuff to be in full control. Just read up and UNDERSTAND what you are doing before going down that road. Just like you wouldent run your Athlon with no heatsink you dont want to be putting 40 degrees of timing advance at 20psi of boost!

Re:Self TunerYou mean like this one? I only know the Honda world, and this is very new there, but I imagine it can't be far off in the domestic aftermarket.
It's a tuner's wet dream. What's that? Switched to larger injectors? No problem, let's load the program and update it for 550s....

Chips are good for NA tooIf you do not have turbos or a blower, there is nothing much your chip can do, but void the warranty.
Not completely true. The Hondata reflash for the RSX adds 15-20 horses to a stock car. Many people recommended the reflash as the first performace mod for the RSX do to the outstanding bang for the buck. This is of course no match to the gains from the Jackson Racing Superchanger reflash that adds 40 horses to the 60 horsepower blower kit.
I would like to mention Hondata has recently released an USB reprogramable ECU for the RSX K20 engine. Bet your balls I'm getting it.

computers and cars
You know, there's sites and people who likes to mess with the computers in cars too. and many sites were they take them apart and see what makes them tick. one example. For a computer geek like myself, I it have been fun to get into this, and then "modding" the car by replacing the software ROM with a more performance oriented(granted, fuel economy and emmisions takes a blow).

Reverse engineered Honda ECU code
I don't know much of the history, but the folks over at www.hondata.com reverse engineered the ECU in the majority of Honda's from the 1990s.
The program was then reengineered to allow for the modification of all the fuel maps, ignition timing maps etc. This allows tuners to bolt on parts, and change specifications without having the computer try to counteract the changes in the name of emissions and fuel economy. There is also datalogging built in which allows me to monitor all the sensors in the car. In my case, it allows me to run a supercharger on my Honda Civic with 8psi, and have it run RIGHT!
In my opinion, its far better than standalone engine management computers (such as MOTEC, etc) for daily driving. It allows us to take advantage of years of Honda development and research, and still tweak to our hearts content.
...and besides, I get to keep a laptop in my car ALA The Fast and the Furious (quite possibly the worst movie ever BTW)
