Re:At Least They Didn't Stoop To...
Name one commercial game available for Linux but not OS X.
I can name one: Hopkins FBI.
But that's quibbling; your basic point is 100% correct. Hopkins FBI isn't exactly up there with Doom or WoW, and I don't think any new games are coming out for Linux but not OS X.

Redo it as a "toon" game
That's because "toon rendering" isn't the same thing as a real cartoon.

Re:Adventure games on Linux
What I've found frustrating is the lack of adventure games available for Linux
Really? I've found that adventure game support for Linux is actually quite good relative to other genres.
There's an entire commercial seven-episode line in the LadyStar series.
Hopkins FBI was, I believe, the first commercial SDL-using game available for Linux.
Want to play older adventure games in Linux? ScummVM can run older Lucasarts adventure games. AGIL lets you play old AGI Sierra games, and FreeSCI old SCI Sierra games. TADS can run on Linux to let you play TADS-based text adventure games (it *is* true that there isn't an HTML-enabled runtime for Linux, but that hasn't turned to be much of a big deal), and Frotz lets you play text-based Z-Machine games on Linux. Both of these have massive libraries of games, some of which are very good (I dearly love Tower of Babel for TADS). There are runtimes for numerous other, less widely-used systems listed on ifarchive.
Finally, I realize it's not a fantastic solution, but adventure games that use DirectX are more likely to work with WINE than the latest 3d shooter because they tend to use fewer features. Riven, for instance, works this way.
But I wonder if the Linux gaming market isn't somewhat different than the Windows gaming market. Many of the people who run Linux are older professionals. We're often not runnng the latest and greatest equipment. Perhaps one explanation for the lackluster sales of Linux games is that they're targeting the wrong population.
I agree -- the best selling games for Linux have been Civilization, SimCity 3, Kohan...the games without high end system requirements on 3d cards or CPU. They tend to be less twitch games.
I wish adventure game developers would return to the VM-based approach that Sierra and Lucasarts used to great success. The portability and ease of debugging is well worth it. -

Re:You're kidding, right?
But what other gamemaker has come out with decent games using SDL?
Loki has used it in every title except Quake 3, which (IMO) shows a great deal of scalability. CTP to Tribes 2? Oh, yeah!
Hyperion used it for both Sin and Shogo.
Vicarious Visions used it for Terminus.
It was used for Hopkins:FBI. (You remember, the first Linux commercial boxed game. http://www.hopkinsfbi.com)
It was used for the Descent 1 and 2 ports of the old source.
It's used for exult (which lets you play Ultima 7 and U7: Serpent Isle under Windows and Linux).
It's used for Heretic 1 and Hexen under Linux.
Doom has been ported using it.
Maelstrom was ported using it (by Sam Lantinga, in fact).
OpenUT uses it, and used it before Daniel Vogel was hired by Loki.
QuakeForge uses it.
The Linux release of Raptor uses it.
Reel Deal Slots (another commercial game) uses it.
In addition, it has been used to great effect in a large number of other games (http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ for one) as well.
Just look at http://www.libsdl.org/games_db/games.php3
Frankly, I'd say that's a hell of a lot more than the "primary sponsor" of the library using it. It can't be all bad.
(BTW: did you notice the hold-out? TribSoft did not use it for Jagged Alliance 2. In fact, that's the only commercially-available separate Linux boxed game currently available which doesn't use it.)

Hopkins FBI...
I just loaded an interesting role-play/action game called Hopkins FBI. It touts itself as the "first commercial Linux Game"... I think there were others(I'm not a big gamer...) anyhow you may want to check it out at www.hopkinsfbi.com.

Re:Who cares? who will be 1st co-release? Sales #s
I think the first concurrent release was Hopkins: FBI, but I'm not sure if that was truly concurrent. Granted, not in the same box (Windows version is separate from Linux version).
If "in the same box" is the standard, then I believe Q3 will be the first.
I received my copy of RT2 within a month of seeing the Windows version on shelves. Not precisely concurrent, but closer than, say, Heretic II.
