Re:It seems they lost the HP way long ago
I wonder what's left of HP that anyone should bother?
HP is currently the largest vendor for my employer, we buy a ton of servers. HP also has "Moonshot", the workload-optimized blade project. And they have a private cloud offering.
Cisco used to be our largest vendor (switches, specialty gear, UCS). For the time being, HP is very competitive on servers and switches.

Re:a blip on the way to slow death
Your post would carry more weight if HP hadn't already been in public cloud for nearly three years now, and weren't the largest single contributor to OpenStack. Buying Eucalyptus isn't some desperate attempt to get into the cloud market; it's a smart move to consolidate their existing position.
Don't let facts get in the way of giving HP a good kicking though. This is Slashdot, after all. -
Re:What's the angle?
public clouds (AWS, Azure)...Public cloud -- their stock in providers.
Yeah, look, I know the message is kind of confusing, but you do realise HP has it's own OpenStack based Public Cloud, right?

Re:Your customers are lucky
Actually, some cloud providers do document known issues. Too bad the issues are pretty big for a lot of people...

HP is way ahead of that already
Funny you should mention HP: https://www.hpcloud.com/ It looks like they are implementing OpenStack very similarly to Rackspace, which should help back up OpenStack's claims of freedom from vendor lock-in. -Dan

Re:Cloudstack is more robust, proven.
There are large Clouds built on OpenStack, too.
