Re:People Who Don't Get Over Those Old Games...
I am a game developer, I am currently working on this game http://www.indiedb.com/games/t... but I sure as hell like to play the old games that are close to extinction. The ones from my childhood. Even the ones that are online and got closed like kingsage and so on.

Re:Pleeeeeeeease?
There have been several fan projects, both standalone and as modifications to existing video games that far surpassed in quality and detail what was available during original filming of the show. Though part of me does appreciate the nostalgia of the original CGI.

Hello World Lessons isnt for everyone
It didnt work for me. If anything, turned me away from programming in my early life.
I'am the sort of person that needs a task, something enjoyable and a end result that makes it worth the time invested.
I remember when i was 12, i created a lottery number generator in Qbasic for my parents. I learnt everything on my own, in my own time, and enjoyed every moment of it.When i was 26, i had a dream to create a game. I always wanted to make my own game, but, i lacked the knowledge to do so.
I found a program called 3Drad http://www.3drad.com/ . A game engine which allows you to quickly add pre-defined objects without using any code.
After a year of playing with the engine, and, my knowledge and skills expanded. I wanted to increase the AI count from 2 to 7, and, use vectors/quats + raytracing instead of physx.
To do this, i had to start coding by using the script object (anglescript). After a year of being self taught, and, following the community's tips, i re-created the whole game using just over 3k lines of code.
Heres the finished product http://www.freankexpo.net/533/tr-zeroTheres alot of features i couldnt add to the 3drad version, due to limitations with the engine.
Now, i'am 29, and currently working in a new engine with vs2008 and C++.http://www.indiedb.com/games/tr-zero
The point of this post is to hopefully show some of you that being force fed "hello world", and, boring lessons isnt for everyone. Sometimes, you need that self initiative and drive to make something you enjoy doing.
Everyone is different, force fed lessons or not.
I hope code.org turns out "good" future programmers, ones that care about stability and performance. Hopefully get out of this "its a beta" era we live in today, instead of adding to it. -
indiedb
Ever since the linux game tome stopped being updated, I switched to indiedb to publish my open source games.

Re:So...
It's come back into the popular view after Minecraft got big, there are several FPS games with various balances that use a cube-based destructible environment. I don't remember their names though since I wasn't really looking for that kind of game but I played 3079 which is an FPSRPG set in that kind of world (a bit too simplistic though and has some bad design decisions in it).
Here's a video of one of those block FPSes

Re:I could go for that
>Have a game that is part space shooty, part RTT or TBT crew management.
That is the sort of game I want to make, but it is far too ambitious a project for one person to undertake all at once. So for now I am focusing on developing the underlying technologies required to make a 'lite' version of my 'ultimate' open ended space game. Once I have a stable foundation I will expand it with additional features but until then my design dictates the absolute most simplistic implementation of the core features I think make the genre great - solid shooter mechanics, a rich crafting driven economy, user defined units with infinite customization.
I have been blogging about it for a while here on slashdot but recently created an indiedb page for it as well. Check it out and tell me what you think!

Ensign-1
My team and I are making a game that I thought of when I read Notch's description. You don't put out fires or such, but you are in control of your player character who can run around a ship. http://www.indiedb.com/games/ensign-1

If you got steam...
Check out the best selling game for this week... Yes, an Indie game.
I used to be one of those kids who enjoy tuning their computers and upgrading RAM and graphic cards every year, but now I don't really have any reason to do that anymore. I spend my gaming time playing indie games like Terraria, Minecraft, or, recently, AI War
Of course it's not really indie games' fault for the whole race slowing down, but you know there is something wrong when you are more satisfied by games made by one or two guys than by those made by big studios. (ok, nothing particularly wrong with that, actually, but whatever)
