Re:Mod patent up.
Do you have any information on this, other than all-caps words?
Because I read a multitude of articles and papers of people, doing exactly what you claim to be impossible.
I'm even going to find an article on it for you: http://www.innovations-report.de/html/berichte/physik_astronomie/bericht-32526.html
They "beamed" particles 600m far. Which is exactly a collapse of the entanglement with transfer of information without any delay. And this is from 2004!
And here's the guy who did it: http://homepage.univie.ac.at/franz.embacher/Quantentheorie/
Go on, and tell him that he did not do what he claims, and that you know more about quantum theory than he does. Please. Go on.
Because I'd love to see the answer you will get. -
Livers as well as hearts
There was a story a couple of years ago about a clinical trial at Cedars Sinai of an artificial liver developed by Dr. Achilles A. Demetriou. The device uses a bioreactor containing cells from pig livers The people they tried this on were all in end-stage liver failure and about to die. The idea was to tide them over until a transplant became available.
A couple of them died from the effects of the surgery. Some others lasted long enough to finally get a transplant. But in several others their own livers managed to regenerate to the point where a transplant was no longer needed.
This led to a bigger study at 20 US research centers. The results were that artificial liver reduced mortality by 44 percent:

Re:Um. . .Duh?
Best part of the whole controversy is that now everyone and his cat seems to be coming out with a theory why global warming is not caused by humans.
A couple of the latest blame things like cosmic rays http://www.canada.com/topics/news/world/story.html ?id=13ef7006-c549-4543-8ed8-89b8f4ca63d6&k=42927
, and the Tunguska Event http://www.innovations-report.de/html/berichte/umw elt_naturschutz/bericht-56600.html .
(I'm willing to bet bet someone, some where has a tie-in between global warming, the Kennedy assasination and bigfoot.) };-) -
What about "tipping point" don't we understand?
First off, yes, there were denials of warming by some neocons. At least until now:

Then there's the argument that, oh, the environment will just adjust and absorb the carbon. Nope:

Oh, and why worry, it's just heat, right?

Re:What is Peat?what is the "proper" temperature for the earth
The short answer is this. The earth has no proper temperature but it has a proper rate of change of temperature, which it is beginning to exceed, thanks to a huge anthropogenic perturbation.

Re:Yes, climate will change...Normally, 10 millenia is a short time in geophysics. Watch out for the next few centuries though. They'll be among the most exciting highlights of the entire multi-billion-year record.

Re:Stem cell debateI definitely support the use of stem cells in research, I believe it has enormous potential to treat and reverse many terminal illnesses. While the derivation of the stem cells is a very hot topic these days, what many have overlooked is the fact that stem cells can be obtained from the umbilical cords of newborn babies. Also, the blood from the umbilical cords contains blood stem cells that can be used to treat lukemia and other blood diseases. I don't know how widespread the information about this is right now, but if the preliminary studies turn out to be correct, this could be a viable, less-controversial alternative to do some real good.
Here is a link about info on this study.

Re:True, but...
The thing that amazed me when I read about that collision is that even today, 500 million years later, 20 per cent of all meteorites are remnants from that collision.

Re:These people give all AnonCows a bad name.
I'd say than 10% of slashdotters post with personally-idenfiable information.
[Here's my chance to get modded down as a troll by bringing up an old story that I submitted and got rejected.]
Basically, compression algorithms can be used as a means for identifying the characteristics of a given author.
With enough of a sample size in an anonymous posting, you might well be able to correlate the author's style with openly-attributed works and thereby identify them.
